so we'll be working at chem today and usually what I like to do is always have a fire going you know it's always nice to have it even though it's not full blaze so when you're ready to boil you know have hot water to eat warm yourself up as you're working it's pretty cool outside or I should say cold and fro is really hard this morning again maybe minus two that's why we're getting a fire early in the morning I'll go all day

and I must admit that the smell of campfire smoke during the day in a cold day something to it okay so right now we're going to take this thing apart sadly I didn't have much time to even sleep in it once this year but you know what happens now we're going to you know try and prepare a little more of a proper shelter for the fall and part of the winter anyway what we're gonna do is just your normal teepee shelter it's something that's you know pretty solid but it's an appoint fairly easy to do and fairly effective to keep heat you know it's not the best but it's better than what you're seeing right now of course if you have a prospector tent with a nice stove nothing beats that but we don't have that so we're going to work with what we have at hand right here and try and do something hopefully try and finish it today if not will be for another day okay so little tip I want to give you concerning birch tree okay now we all know that the bark from the bursary is excellent work tinder they only contain some oils that burn quite nicely and even I've shown a couple of videos of how to extract this oil and that's a big plus when you have these types of trees around your area but at the city time it can have a negative effect on firewood I don't know if you walk around at times and you see a birch tree on the ground and it always seems to be punky rotting there's a reason for that because this bar contains oil it's waterproof okay the tree becomes waterproof so that being said when you find a dead standing tree like this one here it's it'd be a good idea to cut it down right away and cut it in you know firewood length 16 inches whatever you know you prefer so it can dry because if you don't you're gonna waste this tree it's gonna rot right where it is the moisture has no way to escape because of the bar that's waterproof so just a little tip especially if you have them around your campsite I'm not saying if you're walking the trail somewhere but cut it down in lengths that way is going to be able to draw in both ends and you don't have to cover it okay when you stack it let's say a quarter wood you don't have to cover it with a tarp for the rain because this will keep it dry from the top wild rice on both ends so little tip so this fire pit here is not going to be a big one and I don't want to make it too high because of course and the teepee you want to be sitting as low as you can because you know sometimes it'll smoke you out depending on airflow and how cold it is outside but usually the smoke goes up out so I want to keep this low because I'll be low and keep a couple of flat surface with a couple of pots and now I'm just gonna put another layer of sand to go in between the rocks I already have this much of the bottom but they always want to be careful cuz it's Moss under here so all I'm gonna have left to do is just a small tripod to be able to hang stuff hang a pot then we'll adjust the teepee and put the tarp just about that time coffee

we always improvise okay well this is going to feel good because we worked hard and it's cold fishing on your step so anyway we were expecting to have some problems with the carp you know the teepee is well round like a cone and the tarp is rectangular square so we did expect some little problems but right now we're using what we have trying to improvise and well it should end up like a pretty cool teepee with what we had anyway but first we need to relax work a little bit more before I can show you anything oh man Gupta the back with you man we're almost done look at this wood out of money now we use exactly what we had and we use it all we had three tarps some with holes and stuff so anyway I'll give you a quick look so there she is now I'm not going to go through everything we've done because there's a lot of work Josie is building a flap go right there because the wind is going this way and whenever there's hard rain or just snow he'll keep you know some of it out of the teepee so we've got three tarps very old one there blue one and this green one that makes pretty much all the front end we've got it staked at the bottom around here just tie it up tight and staked

and she's a fair-sized this time so we'll have plenty of room show you inside real quick I'll close the door show you how this simple method works then we'll talk about the inside so as you can see there's plenty of room well I'd say it's a good good ten by ten anyway and at the bottom everywhere because the win here sometimes gonna be strong there's nice big rocks to make sure it doesn't then we got a little bit of wood there so it's all over the place here's a little fire pit now at the beginning I wasn't thinking of putting a tripod okay just taking a piece of paracord and just drop it right down to the level I'd like it'd be you know taking less place but the problem with that is that whenever we do start afar as always those big flames and that thing would just burn up so I decided to use the tripod and actually it's not taking that much room it's just it's just perfect and at the same time I can control okay where my pots gonna be and of course I've got the flat rocks you know on purpose to put some pots there too but at the same time especially in the winter when we're all wet we'll have something to hang our clothes on which i think is pretty cool so that's pretty much it folks okay now to close this up okay let's see if I can do this hold on no okay that's not gonna work so anyway I grab grab the flap here from the inside outside of me okay that's just closed what I do next is the end of the flap I bring it inside this pole here and I've got a rope with a loop I just take this out of the way here I just bring it and cook it up whoops sorry about that hook it up there bring this down and she's nice and closed you back up here very simple now I left a few holes like there and you know mostly under all over the place there but just to create some airflow for the fire okay so now for today we're gonna finish that flap and I got some more wood to cut up a little bit bring her inside and you know maybe we'll try a fire in here see if we can stay in here for five seconds without being smoked out okay all right so Josie's gonna show your simple flap it's just to cover that mr. Vanek Josie just a second just to cover that front end here that's it she tied one side on a stable pole there and all she needs to do is bring that on the other side

and just let it down like that that's it and whenever we need more air or whatever we just you know pull on this side so pretty cool well done miss Jo you did a good job so I'm already starting to put wood and have a lot more to cut because during the winter so much work to get some wood there's a lot of snow I have another pile cut outside which is maple which is better than this because when we do make a fire in here we want to keep the fire extremely low but want it to be hot so I'm going to need some better wood than this hard wood this one has some maple that birch tree is going to have to do I want to come too much on this side because this is Josie's area picked up a little bit of birch bark up there okay I'm pretty much done for today I don't know if I want to take time to start a fire in here maybe I will we'll see okay so another little tip now this may sound a little bit insignificant but actually it's not especially when you're just starting out here

how do you know when your wood is dry cut it up and stack it how do you know when it's time to burn it and some people don't know this and it's important to know because you want to use your wood fully concerning the heat time and the burn time you know you don't want it to burn when it's wet you're just wasting it so this is a piece I just cut and it's not dried yet okay very easy to see when you know what you're looking for when I show you the other piece that is dry you will understand it's cracked so that means it's dry all the way through it's cracked up and it's right and it's ready to use split so one more little tip for you guys

by the way I use the same loop to tie inside tie the outside and I have to put this another place it's not title that's I certainly will do that okay and I just use a simple stick to leave the door open so can we try a fire let's do this so I'm gonna try it even with the flap closed we'll see how that goes well she's working great see a little later if there's too much right now it's great well she's working nicely no smoke yes well that's you don't want far any bigger than that that's cool there's no smoke unless we're low yeah it's already warm isn't it that's only twigs of course that's why we've built it have some nice hardwood in there yep we succeeded not little twigs yeah we need pieces like that right there

yeah but hardwood yeah the only that you know it takes less time to burn and gives a good heat I mean gosh it's about it's not very cold out I mean it's maybe what +5 now and we just lived it's about five ten minutes ago and it's already nice and comfortable of course the ground we know any ground ground cover and all that that's our that's the stuff we bring but I think we're pretty much set for a few weeks that's smoke in here you know your flap is not even open we could open that flap and they would evacuate even more but you know what hardly anything is gonna come in there even though there's a little hole all right cool

well that's fun so anyway so anyway it's not the prettiest thing but it's working so that's what counts and what's nice about it is that we didn't have to add a dime to this we just use the stuff we had around so of course it doesn't compare to your prospector tent and stove they open the flap okay yeah there's a lot more air yeah anyways it's it's going well it's cold so you know the smoke is if it be a very humid day maybe we have to open up the flaps more because you know you media tea comes down yep okay so that's enough of this video I hope you enjoyed it and you should see us in here enjoying this little place a couple of times in the near future this is Mike from the chef Barton's you guys take care and remember enjoy the wilderness very important you
