oh we're at the top now and I want you guys to see at the same time what we're going to see ready let's go Sun feels good anyway

[Applause]

[Music]

so we're the 16th of April still a cold day minus 10 to minus 15 Celsius with the wind still quite a bit of snow we beat records actually for the month of April

now I could be complaining and whining about it but instead why not take advantage of it we're going to enjoy this hike we've got a five-mile hike Josie's with me today she there and just got a look at the blessings I mean it's crisp no flies no bears it's just a beautiful day and of course in the woods it's not as cold and we were going to this is a trail for snowshoeing so the blessing of it being so cold is that we don't need it because we can walk on the trail just with our boots so they'll make it even less harder so I'll just open up the camera once in a while show you some views and stuff hope you enjoy it let me show you a beautiful River down there

okay so to explain to you a little bit what we're doing down there obviously there's a river it's called the hidden River and we're hiking the valley or between two mounds and you can see we're just climbing and climbing and climbing and should have not spectacular views but some beautiful views fresh air some big old yellow birch trees along the way okay so this is called the river from afar I'll show it to you in a second earlier days you can read that if you want served as winter hunting grounds for the Motegi the natives here and all that good stuff here's a pic the arrival of the Europeans every spring the end watch called well those are the malting and would paddle down at all Calci River to steady Kona now Quebec City to trade skins furs for rifles axes mirrors and other European goods Quebec of a frozen river but this river in the summer is a lot of people can do it it's just beautiful it's just that it's still froze so anyway we're still there we're still going up the mountains are calling okay

this is just good to hear the birds Josie oh yes it does no traffic the only noise is the birds right now so we've changed forests mostly hemlock as you can see in front of me still a few birches but it's mostly hemlock as we go up I see a couple of Cedars - all right keep trekking go Josie go take some time to breathe

[Applause]

yeah well for me when I hike I like to see something and mountains can't beat mountains and we live around surrounded by mountains so see if I don't fall down here a little higher still no view much I don't think oh ok so this is what happens ok you can see there's the river down there the hidden River and it's well hidden from me right now there's a drop so you'll want to sink 3 to 4 feet stay on the trail

it's beautiful though ok so right in front of you for those are not familiar this is very old yellow birch I know it doesn't look like it but that's what it is I have one decide what I always wanted to show you you Carver's out there oh yeah look at the size of that burro man it's like Oh more than a foot wide by two and a half round anyway [Applause]

this size of that big one that would make a big bowl go what 1 bowl of soup be good for a week we're still not at the top but we're right on the ridge in between two valleys look at that till the wind picking up now that is beautiful of course the camera never gives it justice of course if the water be running it'd be better but froze and right on the other side guys ready just on the other side there's a beautiful Sun but take a look at this there's the hidden River splitting in three places now that's a nice view where is it okay there yeah

anyway it's just beautiful awesome alright so as we're getting close to the summit we're getting into some problems I don't know if we'll be able to make it doesn't show but this is very icy take your time okay see this is all full of ice and I didn't come equipped with the ice picks there under the under the shoes look at that it's just ice going up so I'm gonna try and climb this here we got some stairs up there somewhere it stick it what yes you can all right I'll help you out okay all right so I know it doesn't show the camera but this is pretty boring and dangerous that it's full of ice so I'm gonna try and climb here and these things are worthless as I wasn't expecting everyone's turning around except the one with crampons so what I'm gonna do is try and climb [Music]

now

need to get Josie up here oh boy oh my gosh look at the eyes no camera though okay we'll know well that was kind of tricky but it's part of the adventure but it's you know you always have to be careful especially we couldn't fall if we fall we'd be done or get injured quite a bit we're not at the top yet but look at that awesomeness behind me Josie's a good tough girl climbing that [Laughter]

what yeah will you made it look still climbs and there goes way way up there somewhere we left in the morning early because we wanted the snow to stay packed and hard of course when it gets warmer eventually sometimes you'll sink but in these high pitch where you saw the ice just this afternoon we see the Sun is hitting down there well that's when the hard packed snow starts melting it becomes ice so anyone that comes here is this afternoon it's gonna need some crampons are you gonna be in trouble or he's just gonna have to turn around so right now we're circling the mountain going around it so I guess we won't be going to the top I don't know maybe later right now it's nice walking and the birds are still singing for us well actually they're praising the Lord but oh look at this old now this is at least a hundred years old right here you don't see these often this is an old yellow birch it's about two and a half feet in diameter maybe yeah as we go up we see these bigger monsters for this type of tree it's big now as we surround the mountain and get to the top we have some beautiful nice-sized yellow birch an open space there's a huge one and of course well you know that is a big chunk of healthy chaga Aria there but how'll it be gets too high anyway okay so we're at the top now we're going around so we dinner almost our half mark maybe 2.5 miles pretty soon we're going to take a break somewhere and hopefully have something to eat okay so we're at the top now and I want you guys to see at the same time what we're going to see ready let's go my son feels good anyway okay we don't want to fall down but okay I'm gonna stay right here because that's full of ice and if I slip down there game over man look at this Wow Mountains everywhere

well obviously it's still the same River it's still very beautiful very nice and the Sun feels good too okay so we're starting to go down now it'll be nice to be on the south side that way because well there's a north wind that's pretty cold Northwest it's coming this way so being there will be out of the wind now there's a helicopter Karl helicopters for you honey you better hide they'll find you alright so right now we're taking a break alright in the valley

rivers over there we found a nutty dry spot by the spot with no snow I'm sitting on my gloves Josie is having a sandwich I was growing in the tree Wow remember that spot when we come back okay so anyway right now we are in relaxing mode I've been hiking for three hours

usually this five mile trek can be done two and a half hours in the summer so I'd say maybe we have an about an hour left if everything goes well but I think I'm gonna stay here a little while I would have loved to be able to be close to the river but I mean there's like three four feet of snow another big month before all this goes away so anyway this will probably be the end of this video just a little hiking video again stop looking at that screen get out there enjoy yourself this is Mike from the chef's gardens oh wait a minute Mike and Josie with her mouth full of good food you guys take care bye [Music]

you
