Traveling Northern Europe 4x4 Ep03: Rooftop Tent Camping North West Germany

Description

Our six month journey through Europe up to Northern Scandinavian wilderness continues. After leaving Camping De Roos in the Netherlands we continued North East into Germany gradually making our way toward Denmark. We really enjoyed our time in Germany despite only seeing a small part of it. Hopefully we will get to see more on the way back.

by the guys Mike and Meg from mcq bushcraft ear we yeah we've been on the road pretty much all day we left the Netherlands and went northeast so we're in Germany now would just below Hamburg so about how many hours from Hamburg directly couple hours okay it's a it was lovely though driving through Germany really beautiful a lot of forest doesn't know lots of forests houses are so well kept they're all very proud of their home yes it's really nice to say actually now you're going to take a direct route here but we hit some traffic on the motor incitement take a nice country detour we tried going down a few tracks and things which ended up being people's drives to farms then I've been sort of reverse I yeah this is a road I'm sure it's a roast and then suddenly there's a - you're like right trying get out so it's hard to see out the back with all the kit now so you could it be careful but yeah it's been really nice I wish we're hopefully on our way back we're gonna do a bit more research and maybe visit some places in the country so we've travelled through on the way back yeah try and see some other stuff we've missed so yeah anyway let's have some dinner after a long day's driving we sat down and had a meal together we were woken up early by the wind and traffic and little did we know that in a day or two the campsite would be fully booked and this was the calm before the storm we were literally the only people here bar one other vehicle and after a few walks around the local area we decided to sit down back at camp and do some leather work together not bad yeah beer ice we've got loads of wine there's an odd sound a minute okay they're like ice or something burning sound well I think I just drained a bit too much water at home we we normally am rinse it with cold water and turn the heat down there it came off completely [Laughter]

I'm obviously not make I'm on my own now I leave my life behind many people do today this is you know you were saying the other day that you could see yourself living like this you rather yeah which is a pretty bold statement yeah I mean personally I think if we were going to live like this rather that there's gonna have to be like other things we would need we'd have to buy a motor home that would fit the Jeep inside let's go I know pressure washer station just to keep it a mint condition yeah yeah like how about maybe six days horsebox it like double decker horse what I mean is like an awning with like walls meters you know there's any say long you can enjoy the kind of outdoor lifestyle well we came there what are you trying to say that I can't after only two speaking everyone thinks you're the Tuffy that last video they say like to sleep on newspaper and as you can it's quite hard to cook just enough too much you sure you don't want walks there's gonna be loads left okay we stayed for a total of two nights at larren brook and despite being a little bit dilapidated it was a very nice campsite and the people they were pretty friendly one of the downsides was some roadworks happening nearby which diverted a lot of traffic from a main road past campsite which made it pretty noisy but with the weekend coming it was filling up rapidly and it was our cue to leave

we got packed up and Megan got ready to plan the next part of our journey packed up ready to roll maybes plotted a journey for some it's just to avoid Hamburg going over the river tiber

okay so we're here at the campsite in Lauer and Brook we're going to do is instead of going our original route of going around Hamburg they're going to go up this way instead which looks really scenic and then we're taking a ferry that goes over the river there - gloop start and then we'll find somewhere to camp in this sort of area it might be gluten and gluts dad so we'd better be careful it's a really good piece of the cruiser boys we continued our journey Northwest avoiding major roads and sticking to country lanes and we periodically stopped off in villages and towns just absorbing the local culture before hitting a massive delay for the ferry obviously we had forgotten it was some kind of holiday but after a three-hour wait we did manage to get on the ferry and it was a pretty swift ride across the river we then continued to travel northwest on the coastline though he stopped off at a farmer's field by the side of the road and we thought we'd make a cup of tea so we found the campsite we just saw some signs making our way there now it's getting quite late

it's the price you pay when you don't take the main roads we get eager to see a lot

we've just arrived at camp and this is called ho hen camp camping and it's a really nice place actually very quiet even though it is next to an airfield but it's an old airfield it sounds like the guy who owns the place has done a few expeditions he's been off on his planes up to other countries with it he was telling us all about it really nice guy I even got two free beers for turning up it was only 10 euros because Meg doesn't drink beer he said oh you can have two for free so ten euros and two free beers isn't his embed when you've been on the road for the day and you just turned up considering we just stumbled across it we've not done too bad

quite nice beer haven't had a beer in a while so we could do with one day as the evening progressed we got invited in by the locals I was caught in the kitchen filming and they invited us round back and gave us more beer wine Jameson's and later some very expensive rum we felt very welcome although slightly worse for wear when we put our heads down well me and mags have decided to stay at the campsite for one more night given it's only ten euros to actually stay here and they don't seem to have even charged just for using some of the electricity so it's a pretty inexpensive and it gives us time to stay somewhere this relatively nice and also get some work that I've been working on this leather work here and mags made all of these I'm just doing a bit of wet forming and dressing all the thread on them

actually this ferrule here is one of three that I've made for Richard heroin so if you're watching Richard I'm sure you got my email the other day they're on their way too soon so just going to crack on with this for the day and then we're gonna have some dinner get an early night and then we're gonna set off early and see how far north we get hopefully we'll get across the border into Denmark tomorrow it's good when you make just completely make up there that feeling like when when I was ill and he fed me back it was nice he made me a meal and then you were like oh no I don't know what I've done oh I better put some baked beans into him oh god yeah that was about that was so he's making me out on camera every one of rubbish cook oh you are good it's just that particular it's just that particular meal every other [Applause]

well it's the morning we've been here two nights and we're getting packed up nice a leaf maybe he's just a dime bedding shaking it open got a bit of tidying up stairs it gathers bits after a while so you have to maintain it everything's packed up we're almost ready to go just gonna put all the dry bags into the Hannibal sack get it on the roof get the roof tent packed up and then we'll be away heading further north through northern Germany still for a while and hopefully crossing the border into Denmark today
