hello guys Nick from H of survival school thank you for joining with I'm out here in my base camp drinking some spruce needle tea man that feels good and I also ate some mushrooms and other wild edibles and if you want to see that we do please click the card here and today we will be learning I will show you guys how I sharpen my XS I will show you guys how to sharpen my food corner hatchet and the hotel for classic classic felling axe I know there will be a lot of opinions on the subject because there really is no right and wrong way of sharpening and X because as long as you make the tool sharp it is the right way and it's as long as it works for you it will work for others so let's get right into it first I will sharpen my hatchet because it needs a little bit sharpening with the stone this stone I will be using to put an edge on my hatchet is the 1000 grit Arkansas stone this came with my Smith's knife sharpening kit which was cost like $15 on Amazon I will try to look it for it and I'll put the link in the description and really I am sure you can also buy this stone separately on eBay and other places like that now my hatchet has quite a thicker profile and that is because I could thin it down but that is because I use this hatchet mostly for splitting firewood therefore I don't need a thin blade and I don't need that cutting power with you which my big axe needs because I will be cutting down trees with it and it needs that sharp and thin blade but this is mainly mainly for splitting and that's why it doesn't need that same blade so to sharpen it are you clear you just look at it first I started like this I would be hatchet I put it on my shoulder like this and I look at it at the blade and I will put the stone right on the blade I will see then how what kind of adjust adjustment I need to do or so that the level is put on correctly and you don't end up thinning the material too much or if you will need to thin it you can also do that and I will need to make sure on decided to leave the convex edge which it already has so I don't need a rule straight kind of Scandi grind or hatchet I need that around it convex edge so first I hold my stone like this and I put it on the blade I found the color colored pearl and then I will start sharpening with this kind of circular spinning motions like this and I will start spinning go from one and to another and then come back and it is not mandatory if you have a lot of sharpening experience you will just hear it when your knife is ready when your knife or hatchet is ready but if you are beginner I recommend that you count how much times you press the blade so that you can do the same thing on the other side so let's get started just like that also well this stone can be used with water and sometimes I put some water over it and that way it will sharpen and give a sharpened even better and the best thing if you want to sharpen this at home you can put some kerosene on it and that is the best lubrication for this stone so I'll just put a small amount of water on it

like that and there to help us to sharpen the knife even finer now let's do the same thing on the other side and when I sharpen it on the other side I usually flam pissed or handle on the chair which are on which I'm sitting on and I try to look it from the top so that I can see the correct angle really the best option if you are sharpening this at home is to put this axe in a wise and so that it doesn't move and wiggle at all but when you are out in the field these kind of small stones can help you a lot when you do some amount of sharpening you will see that there is this kind of black slurry coming from from the X it will be also on the installment on the X and that is really a good thing that means that you are removing some material and you are sharpening your ax so here this is how our blade looks after sharpening with 1000 good stone as you say and after you finish your sharpening the X with the stone then I almost always sharpen it to finish it with a strop if you don't know what a strop is it just basically is a piece of leather with some kind of compound I a long time for a long time I used only leather and it worked but it needed I liked no hundred times more effort than it is now I have also used some tooth by tooth paste so if you are on a tight budget and can't afford it you can also use toothpaste and it is good but not as good as this compound the yellow some compounds because this is like 10 or 20 times more faster than toothpaste to achieve a mirror finish and this is a yellow stone compound which you can buy on Amazon it is a small family or company and then they make some amazing stuff so to know if I of course

usually don't carry this size or shop with me this is my home strop but for the woods I just carry a small piece of leather is a little bit bigger but you can take like this size or piece of leather and put some compound on it and you can just take it in the woods and when you need to and if you need to sharpen your axe or a knife it will be already too or go you can also use your belt on the sides on which it has this suit you can put some compound on it just put the no belt on your pants and when you need it you can use it for but now I will show you how to sharpen sharpen it well with my stroke usually this piece of leather I just OH Max's mad at us usually I put this piece of leather on something flat and that will make the performance better so you just need to you know put the X and you need to go first I already know what angle with my ex needs but when you are sharpening for the first time you need to find out where is that angle and how what angle you need to sharpen your X on and when you know it you just push the eggs away from you as you remembered or when sharpening this sound we were putting this stone against this blade but if you do that on this you will just cut your store strop and you won't sharpening sharpen it so now we are going against the plate just like that it's real not easy to sharpen with the camera standing next to me but you guys get the idea just like that and after like how much was it I didn't even count five ten strokes you can see our kind of mirror finish it gave to the front side of the blade here you see see that and that is why I just love this compound because you can achieve that mirror finish without ever without much effort at all now let's go to a sharpening the big X so guys the way has talked a little bit and now I will talk about sharpening the big ax now the only difference with this is that it has bigger travel and the bevel is more kind of like a can be grind like it's perfectly correct way to pronounce it it is a little bit wider convex but still it mostly looks like a Scandi grind and now of course I want sharpen this could be strong because it is more than enough sharpened and as you see it is mirror sharp it came in your car and now that remember how sharp it is and now let's continue working it with our stroke and you guys see what we will end up with now the only difference when sharpening this size big X is that people have problems holding it finally the proper way of holding it and here is what I came up with in here's what I am comfortable with I put the handle on my shoulder I take it with my left hand when I have to have to work the right side and I just work myself with this drop like this I can also fold it with my neck like this and it is a comfortable position of sharpening the bigger X dropping edge so guys here are for faulty access sharpened and this is not that more sharp because from the factory it came quite dull and I had to work my way through it and it is getting a better and better and it is getting close to this mirror finish after I more I use it and more a sharp or sharp ended so guy just like that I hope you learned how to sharpen your X and I will include link to all of the you know sharpening method with some methods which I have mentioned down in the description and you will really can't go wrong with it I have this Arkansas phone for like 2 or 3 years and it didn't wear at all and then I have sharpened it a lot at the end of work and lots of times and it is a great so a long time in the website so guys I think that will be all for today thank you very much for watching today I want to show you guys an awesome t-shirt design which I personally have came up with here is the same and I think it will look great on you both in the outdoors and in the city so by buying this t-shirt you don't only get an awesome design high quality t-shirt but you also help out my channel a lot so if you want to do that you can contact me there on here on youtube you can message me or put a comment down below and I will get back to you or you can contact me in my Facebook group called Nick's crafts or you can either email me at h of survival school at gmail.com the shirts are available in all sizes and all colors so if you want some particular color or size it shouldn't be a problem contact Nick and you will get what you want when you buy this t-shirt I guarantee that you will be able to hang out with beautiful girls like
