so in the past we've shown you how to do the Ray Mears tarp nuts but today I want to show you some simpler knots that are also really good for setting up a Ridgeline and will also show you how to do a prusik knot which is useful for both shelters and also other activities like climbing and caving and mountaineering so without further ado let's get started we're first gonna take the end of the rope and fold it over to make what's called a bite next we'll take this Bight and fold it into a figure eight to do this we'll first pass it under the rope then back over then bring it back under and through the loop we've created take the bite and pull it tight to complete the knot this gives us a loop at the end of our rope to simplify things you can tie the loop into a simple overhand knot it'll still work but the figure eight knot is probably gonna be even more secure to attach the first side of our ridgeline we'll wrap the entire rope around the tree feed the end of the rope through the loop and pull it taut making sure that it's at the right height and position that we want it to be at so this is a really simple and easy way to attach one end of your ridgeline to a tree or a pole but because you are dealing with the entire rope and you have to feed that through the loop it can be a little bit more finicky a bit more of a handful than just a normal Slipknot next we're gonna use a tension knot that Dave Canterbury uses for his tarp shelters the first step is to take the rope and wrap it around a tree pull it as taut as you can and then figure out a good spot to create a loop then let the line go slack and create another bite in the rope tie the same figure eight knot from earlier into the rope again you want to go under the rope back over then under and through the loop and once again another simple overhand knot will also work here with the figuri tightened and a loop formed take the loose end of your rope and pass it through the loop next pull the loose end back the other way until your ridge line is completely done take two fingers and hold them against the loose end of the rope past the loose end completely over the ridge line grab the loose end with their two fingers then pull it through the new loop you've created when you tighten this knot you'll create another loop with the loose end still dangling down underneath this creates a slipknot which allows you to break down your shelter easily while still leaving it taut and secure finally I'm gonna show you a cross cannot cross knots are really useful for climbing mountaineering ziplining anything like that but it's also really useful in camping for setting up a shelter or anything else of that nature

beauty of a prusik knot is that you can adjust it along the ridgeline but as soon as you pull it and put tension on it it holds in place first we're gonna take a small bit of rope and cross it over itself to create a loop with two bunny ears we're gonna take the first bunny here and pass it over and under the loop

tying a simple overhand nut once again with the other side we'll pass it over under and back over to create a simple overhand knot then pull open the loop and the two knots will catch on to each other this gives us a nice big loop to use for our pressive we'll then take this loop and pass it over our ridgeline and pull it through itself we'll pass it through itself a second time and then a third before pulling on it and tightening the nut you can use this time to clean up the knot a bit and make sure the rope is nice and neat and then you've got a beautiful prusik nut that you can easily move around on the ridgeline but as soon as you apply any pressure it locks into place by attaching a tarp to these nuts you can have an easily adjustable shelter perfect for sleeping under [Music]
