Oilskin Tarp 8x8 Review

Description

A lot of people have been asking for a review on my 8x8 Oilskin tarp, so I thought I'd make a short video to show what I think of it and how it works in the British weather.

Hope you enjoy!

Brian.

hello people so a lot of people have been asking me about the 8x8 or skin tone and there's not that many reviews out there on YouTube at the moment so I thought I'd do a pretty in-depth frizzies for you show you a couple of setups and how I like to do it and I know it's mainly Dave Canterbury sing and he's done a lot on it already I thought I just give you my more view on things and to show you how I like to use it and how it works in this kind of country and because obviously it a little bit different over in America so stay with me and I hope you enjoyed the video okay so I'll lay it down on the floor for you so you can get a little perspective on how actually big it is and a lot of people use the three by three meter at DD tasks and this is slightly smaller and I think eight foot comes in about 2.4 meters and so it is a little bit smaller than that and so it's not perfect for the winter time between the window dialogs you want a little bit more room and about to get all your stuff under and you can definitely get away with it you know it's it's like February now and I'm still using it it is it is perfect for me it's really robust and quite quite large because it holds the snow off quite well well I would imagine crackles across smells quite well and see I'm wearing my Dave we know I mean I'm six foot so I'm pretty tall and I'm not the tallest but you know yeah so you can imagine if I'm in the middle of it it's giving me a good fucked either side of me and keep that whether it and like I say it is more ideal for the summertime because you haven't got that risk of rain coming in diagonally and whatever not a problem yet so I'm going to set it up and show you the first kind of setup than my yachts using okay so the top has got sixteen pilot points along the edge and it's got five tire points well five tire points are in the center and three actually in the center piece so 16 total around the edge and three in the middle and in my opinion you could do with a couple more aim to the left and right of the center piece but I might do fine let's just always being produced so I'm going to take a little bit closer window and show you stitching and grommets okay so this is the center grommet and this is going along the ridge line so we'll do the ones and it is just Rafael boy yeah it's double stitched and supported by another piece of canvas on the back of the grommet and ideally I'll take the grommets are a little bit small and you can just do a get I like to put a stick through the center piece I'll show you later and you can its certain restriction what's always sticking get in there put it o daily about an inch size an inch diameter stick is all you really can use so it works fine and but yeah they are really strong tie up once you know they're they come with themselves sodium and sodium they're on that door on that double stitch there and it's just got that extra support of triangle canvas which is double stitched along the back okay and this is another toy out in the center along the ridge line again they are a little bit small you could say and I could be doing a lot with a little bit bigger and I think it's really the way they're designed the way they folded the canvas and oh but it restricts the hole slightly they could have done with making a little bit more gap there instead of having and booked it up to each other book it's fine and it works okay you never know I might be wrong many much make you stronger by doing that I don't know okay so this is my favorite type of configuration for this top it's a similar tool lean-to but the stick in the back of it and give you a lot more Headroom and can fit to build and here sleeping comfortably with kind of summer kits winter kit and you can really get two people into here because the products are just too big to fit under with you people and to people and summertime one person in the winter absolute perfect one person just saw was real on the way I'll show you later and but you can see having a stick through the back three loops back very tight points and then a piece of string off the stick and pulls ate all those three toilet bones and this top is six point four events canvas so it's not like a thick 12 n so it's not as heavy as you think it would be it weighs in two kilograms and so it is manageable you know it's not too heavy at all and but is heavy for a tarp when you consider a three meter or three meter dd top and is 800 grams easy like 799 grams and so it is quite have it off and for the size but you know it's a very durable material and this is the reverse style if you needed to who carry somebody on this you know if there's a serious injury in the woods you can make a kind of lash them together to carry them on up and co firewood on this if need be you know if you've got a pile of firewood quite a while some comes you can use this to carry it without having a fear of ripping ripping your synthetic top and because it is quite a heavy top have you can't you can't put the power cord or you've going on through the loops there you need to go under it and you need to get that this is 550 paracord you need to get that ridgeline taught me talk to my guitar guitar Singh guitar string tight and before you put the tarp over because you've you tried to put it off put the guide line through the top and tie it points and then play it up and the stalks is too heavy to pull against and get it tight enough it's important that you wear it's important that your toilet by going on first in the third top at the top but you know just simple things when you get used to it you get used to it and then literally I'm so glad I bought this top would not go anywhere without it and I absolutely love it so me and Jamie all there get onto their names just show you the two people can get under here that's all set it up I use bank line on my tie points it's not as strong and I only put tie up points on the first two in my only halfway point I only have guidelines on those two I don't put them anywhere else and but I do have several of the pieces hang top several of the pieces of my client hang top and my bag okay so should need it you know obviously for the back piece I use it there but that is twine today so yeah okay so as you can see I'll convince Amir pretty easily this isn't fear cuz it rot backing up and still have plenty of headroom and so this is a really versatile shelter it is actually perfect just for one person for an overnighter yeah everyone long-term stay as well no this has got a twin size war blanket in it and that fits them very perfectly and I can fold up for myself into that and sweeping up underneath just for a a waterproof gram sheet I use the Pathfinder survival blanket and that works really well because it's got that reflective side to radiate heat back up towards you and so yeah that's pretty much it and there's a lot more like of going to but this video it would be extremely long so if you've got any questions and just be sure maximum because I've done quite a lot of research into this talk and before I bought it

I wanted to know exactly where what I was getting I put our picture at the end of the play point and configuration which is another one of my favorite configurations and but this is definitely more ruling and this one gives you a lot more an area space to view and in the winter time I tend to use to play a point to fill a phone that's a little bit better because it closes off the side so you get less wind coming through summertime when it's nice and warm

I like this settled so I put a picture in for that so you can just do it so you can see that but obviously it's a lot more than configurations you can use as well it's just you got to put the research and just find out what suits you see I hope you do the video like I said any questions let me know in the comments I'll get back to you and there yeah thanks watching I'll see you next one
