hello guys welcome to Russia so today's video is going to be a little bit about knives but the main theme is going to be about how I made a convex grind on the more accountable in past 15 minutes or something by hand of course I always sharpened by my knives and axes and so on by hands my my grandfather was a Navy engineer he told me to to sharp knives when oh it's not that all the ones must been less than ten years old or something so I just kept on sharpening by hand they can spot years of course of Scandi grind skin to grinds are not bad but they're basically a double chisel grind and they can be fragile if you use them for anything else than the wood and the chisel is also very fragile if you hit a nail or something else than wood with it right so that's why I like to put a convex grind or sort of like a little micro here to what you can call it micro bevel or whatever on the unjust can declines let me show you how I did this and how I do this hello there so how I do it is I take a slight piece of wood like this let me take these nail polishing pads here this is a German made one singer so to start out with I took Italy the more accountable here on the coarse side for I don't know 50 strokes on each side twenty first and then sin and sin and sin something like that and then of course turn it around and take it on the less cost side it says it's 220 which is called relatively coarse compared to a stone or grid the six thousand or two thousand or twelve hundred or something like this but anyway I don't know what don't think it translates directly into into sharpening stone grits or coarseness but these pads here they are called soft which means that the when you add a little bit pressure to them they would of course make a convex grind I hope it goes on the cam but you can see that the quite a lot of metal in this nail polishing pad here these are ceramic pads here they actually sharpen pretty pretty well so I'll just do a few more times here when you are dragging the knife like this you will of course make a burr on this my grandfather he always sharpened by dragging the knife and then and when he was done he would take one turn the other way around to break the purse off that's what he explained me that was how he did it so yeah but I don't do like this normally normally I just sharpened like this year but anyway when you when I make the convex on the on this little nail polishing card here what I do is I simply just drop it afterwards and the when I struggle with this workshop field sharpener this is not a product placement because I got this from a friend many many years ago but it's actually really really useful tool and it has a little drop here so I just I just drop it like you know maybe 50 times or something on each side so I'll not bore you with this but I would have to struggle a little bit of course for the for the cutting test by the way one of the reasons I like this the workshop he has also has a has a lot of possibilities and blah blah blah but it has these guides here 20 degree guides where you

we'll put your knife on here and and that sort of like helps the beginner you can say to to to get the muscle memory of getting a steady angle on in the hand actually I think it could be useful for this actually so let's make a calling fist here so I have some very flimsy paper with me and you know it's like the Kleber from the cashiers and the shops the knife he has actually made from the same Steel is a more can squad it's a sandwich 14 C 28 in icing it's called anyway sin week's news for you this has a convex grind and it was made the economics mind by the guy who made an eye this is an amazingly sharp knife X idiom but assume we can call it the paper here in the wind I think we can this is a scary scary sharp knife it's awesome life yeah that's why the moral here I can feel it's not as sharp as the other knife well it's pretty damn close I see you I can do a little artwork here here no problem so again it's pretty well cut

I'm very happy about that system so to speak I will say the nail polishing fastener they could most likely also be useful just a small backup sharp now you can even have several of them I'll say they weigh absolutely nothing and almost sake of no space but the a good sharpening stone from film can even or something like this also doesn't take up much space but anyway they're very nice to apply a convex grind to a knife and the Scandi grind is a much greater grind I think with just a little micro bevel of a convex grind so guys I hope you liked this short video on how I apply a convex grind so mice can be nice and how I keep the grind convex I also hope you like this decoration that the dill rings soul made on the snow she'll go back here so guys please check the links in the description so shear subscribe and surveillance of like and all that good stuff until next time get out and train and get it done and see you next time here in the cold wintertime Russia thank you for your time guys see you
