what's up guys it's darling so last week we did a video showing you snuggles gear set up for this year when we return to the 80 at the beginning of Jean so this week I decided we would do a video on my gear setup so this is the Osprey Atmos 65 it's the same pack that I carried last year however I have made a few changes to the gear that's inside so my pack is winning it in at 15 pounds and 9 ounces this year which is down a little bit from last year so let's open it up I'll show you everything that I'm carrying this year and the weights alright guys so here is everything this is all of the gear that I will be taking back with me on the a cheat issue starting the first week of June starting in Great Barrington Massachusetts and going to Mount Katahdin and man so I'm pretty much going to break it all down talk about the gear that is on my back and inside of my pack and then the stuff that I am actually wearing so it's so let's go ahead and start down here first up is the the infamous at most 65 by Osprey this is the older version of the Atmos so it does not have the back scape on the back are the the antigravity backs Cape on that all the new ones that went to this is the one that I carried last year and absolutely love this back hence the 80 patch that's on there and I'll be continuing the rest of the trail with that pack so again like I said in previous videos to me it's like one of the Cadillacs of packs and it worked very great for me last year so I got a ticket this year next up is the Big Agnes copper spur ul - same chat snuggles and I carried last year I carry the tent and fly the poles and stakes and then she carries the footprint she would have seen in our other video so same tent again worked out great couldn't take it back out there next up is my down quilt new to my pack this year I've done a couple videos on it already swapped out my mummy bags and decided to go with the quote this year it is the enlightened equipment revelation 20 degree quilt so I'm really loving this thing so far I'm going to end up doing a full-on review of it once I spend a little bit more time in it but yeah really really dig that and that is in AZ packs cuben fiber stuff sack next up is my pad my thermo rest NeoAir is the large size and loving that so far as well pick that up on the trail last year and trade it out for some pads that I was kind of having some problems with let's move on up here next up is my Cooke system so I'm sure you've all seen videos that I've done before with this guy this is my Snow Peak 700 titanium lug in the homemade koozie that I made my DIY koozie absolutely love that Cup next up is the Snow Peak light Mac stove great little stove folds up titanium aluminum works great last year going back out there have a small piece of aluminum foil that I use as a lid for my mug since the wood that comes with it is a bit heavy the homemade DIY cook pouch I actually just recently did a video on how to use these and how to make them so if you kind of want to go check that out I'll put the link up here and yeah go check out that video and they'll show you how to make it a BIC mini lighter these snow Peaks Hot Lips so it's a little bitty silicone guard pretty much you put on the edge of it so you don't burn your lips whenever your mug is hot you want to go to enjoy your hot beverage next up my sea2summit long handle spork it is not the titanium version it's the alpha aluminum one worked great last year lucky because it can get down real deep into those packets a Gerber para frame many great little knife I never needed anything else on the trail last year little guy was perfect nice and sharp clipped right on the shoulder strap in my pack and loved it so it's going back up like most people out on the trail I switched to smart water bottles carry two of them they were liter apiece usually I will put regular drinking water in one maybe some mio or some sort of a electrolyte drink mix in another and that really works for me that's enough water for me to carry they fit right down the sides of my pack and now next up my filter system I use the Sawyer regular I started with the mini last year and ended up switching to the reggae oak as the flow rates better and then I have a tube with a Quick Connect on the end of it to be able to hook it up to my filter and then hook it up to this 2-liter reservoir this dirty water reservoir to be able to hang it and turn it to a gravity feed system and there's another video that I did on that if you want to go check that out here and I'll show you how that works and how you can put one together as well and I also started carrying this little bitty Cup it's just a bottle that I cut the bottom off of that way I can scoop down in really shallow water next up is my rain cover

it's the Z packs cuben fiber rain cover worked great fits over my pack really well and yeah next up the Black Diamond spot a absolutely great headlamp as the red settings the low in the high it doesn't have a lock feature but I really liked that last year so I'm taken back out this year we come up here this is my Cuban fiber food bag it is the blast the blast feed sack I believe again by Z packs and then with that I have a Cuban fiber wrap bag and then about 50 feet of sea line in there so see some core it's a little bit smaller than paracord a lot lighter

next up or just kind of some small thumb pocket toothbrush and you placed keep those teeth clean a thing of Burt's Bees case I've got chapped lips Deb right for me this little guy that I had last year as well it's the big red number 5 it is a wooden beard comb it's a real nice small lightweight I use it to make sure that I can maintain my mein so yeah big red next up is my first-aid kit

just a handful of odds and ends in there some moleskin some vitamin I alcohol swabs sewing kit pretty minimal but it's really all I needed while I was out there last year next up is this little guy it's just a silly Isle on trail Walt keep my credit card my ID and my cash in it was really great the super lightweight pen I write in the rain notepad because I have to take any notes or make a shopping list where I'm going into town or just journal I didn't journal a lot but it was good just go right down next up is this cuben fiber little pouch inside I just have random cables and stuff for all my electronics I just kind of keep that to keep it all nice and stored in there and organized an iPod Nano no I'm sorry an iPod shuffle this is my iPod shuffle and earbuds make sure I have a little bit of music on the trail if I ever need it this year new to my pack is my GoPro Hero session I'll be shooting on my video on the trail on this it's a hundred percent waterproof really nice resolution and a stick pick trekking pole mount so I'll be able to get nice big wide angle shots next up is a charging block that has two USBs so I can charge two things at one time and then this guy that I picked up contours into the trail last year it's my power ad charger so a little backup extra battery that way if I need any extra power while I'm out on the trail in between towns I have it for my camera my iPod and my iPhone speaking that next up is my iPhone it's the iPhone 4s nothing fancy and a lifeproof case it was great last year took good pictures so I'll be taking that back again move on up here have a mosquito net above net head net we picked that up in Pennsylvania it started getting really bad there towards the end into Massachusetts so just to keep them from chewing on my face but net my camp shoes these are the vivo barefoot camp shoes pretty lightweight and worked out pretty good they're pretty rough they've already seen a lot of trail miles but they're still going so they're going back up next up is my rain jacket my Outdoor Research eland 2 HD jacket nice lightweight it really kept me dry last year I've had some other rain jackets that didn't work out so well for me and this one was excellent as the pit zips and everything else really really like that jacket highly suggested next up new to my pack this year is the Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer hooded down jacket 800 fill super lightweight packs down really tiny really really loving this jacket great edition with that I shed about a half pound from last year from my old jacket

and then my Z rest therm-a-rest Z seat my nice ass pad multiple uses sit on it use it to start a fire used it sometimes as a windscreen around my stove really really handy doesn't weigh anything worth worth its weight in gold next up are the clothes that I had inside of my clothes bag so here's my clothes back it is a deep axe cuben fiber clothes bag and there I had an extra pair of darn tough socks

a pair of wigwam cool max sock liners I carried an extra pair of shorts they're just some lightweight Nike dri-fit running shorts with the liner inside of them so I didn't need underwear because I had the liner in there a Nike Pro combat dry fit shirt my Nike Pro combat thermal tights running tights so pretty much I had these things back whenever I was a big time runner and they worked great on the trail really nice and lightweight and nice quality they last quite a long time and then another new addition to my pack this year is the Outdoor Research down beany super lightweight really super warm nice beanie in case it gets cold at those higher elevations so yeah that was everything inside of my pack - food or water or fuel now let's kind of talk about some things that are on me first off my copper Dale trail master cork trekking poles cork handles I recently replaced the tips still going strong and I love these things I keep a little bit of duct tape wrapped around them because after making repairs on deer and yeah they've been excellent flipped locks

and we'll see how much further I can take them and then on to my clothes that I wore on me first off I used them multiple pairs obviously but use the meril Moab ventilators on the trail last year and I'm taking them back up this year so excellent you nice and lightweight full-featured it's been the best choice for me so I'm going to go back with them again I've tried a handful of other pairs but those he's always single in another pair of darn tough socks

another pair of wigwam cool max sock liners have a pair of Mountain Hardwear hiking shorts you're kind of like running shorts with the liner on them but I guess they're specifically made for hiking really nice and lightweight and then another Nike Pro combat dry fit running shirt that's pretty much what I wore every day and then a couple of extra accessories um my hat my Osprey hat my dirty girl gaiters with the going batty print love those pick those up in the trilogy and then finally my 80 branded buff multiple uses absolutely love it great to keep your neck keep the Sun off your neck keep your head warm bandana keep your hand from burning whenever you grab your pot off the stove just really great item to head if you don't have a buff get you so yeah that was everything that I had on me and that is a complete breakdown of all the gear that I'll be taking back this year under the trail back onto the 18 again that's - food water or fuel but everything else that's it all right guys so hopefully that gave you a little bit of insight into the gear that I'll be carrying for the last 600 miles that were on the trail this year if you didn't get a chance to check out snuggles video that we shot last week check it out right here pretty much the same exact video we break down all her gear and show you what she'll be carrying as well so I'm really really looking forward to getting back out there I think we have about five weeks until we leave New Mexico and then we'll be headed back out to Massachusetts cannot wait to get back on the trail if you have any questions or comments leave them below like or dislike my video subscribe to my channel if you haven't already go over and check out Darwin on the trail calm again snuggles has been posting weekly Diaries from last year when we were on the trail and she'll be writing new diaries this year when we return I appreciate you all for subscribing to my channels liking my videos and leaving the comments to reply to and as always thank you so much for watching

At the end of 2014 my wife Snuggles & I decided to quit our jobs, sell 95% of the things we own, & leave our home town for good in search of adventure, culture, & the true meaning of happiness. We bought a van, traveled all over the country & hiked the entire Appalachian Trail (2189.2 miles). We are still seeking adventure in new places, meeting new people, trying new food & drink, & discovering all that we can.

This Channel has developed into a main hub for aspiring hikers & current hikers to gain info on a wide variety of Trail Topics. With a series of Trip Videos, Q&A, Tip Videos, & Gear Reviews, I aim to get you out on the trail and hiking more!

Hike On,
