hey guys what's up it's Darwin so we officially have one week till we leave here in Albuquerque and start heading back on the road back to Massachusetts and back to the Appalachian Trail so this week I'm kind of getting things ready packing the apartment getting the van ready fixing some things on it that needed to be fixed so I figured today I would take the opportunity to make a small video showing you guys some of the prep that I'm kind of doing small things that I'm doing that I'd needed to do before we leave for the trail so today is my day off so perfect so like every good organized person I've decided to make a list this is my 80 prep list so first up on the list I need to pack all of the gear that I'm not going to be taking on the 80 for my future hikes like the Arizona Trail and the PCT so let's pack up some gear all right

that went well I guess so chipped on pack up gear next is fix and patch the tent got a couple small holes in the rain fly from last year on the 80 so I just need to use some seam seal and fix it up

couple pretty nasty holes from washer on the trail whole seams on the zipper that came off repair that little bitty holes actual rain tarp check so next I need to take Bowie to the park not exactly an 80 prep thing but it is my day off and she's a pretty good dog

all right that is out of the way Bowie has been taken to the park so next up if you know me you know that I'm a pretty big patch geek I pick up a lot of patches whenever I'm traveling I love to put them on my packs or bags put a lot of patches on my pack from last year but there was a handful of him I picked up towards the end that I didn't get a chance to put on last year before we got off the trail so I need to put them on my pack so next up is so patches on my back

all right so typically how I sew patches on is a way I actually learned on the trail so if you take your pack and you take your you know various patches the best thing to use instead of thread is actually floss unfortunately all I have is mint floss so it looks like my pack is going to smell kind of minty fresh there's probably good because it smells like shit right now super loop and when you get a needle out of my little repair kit inside of my first aid kit so all right so what I like to do is lay my pack out in front of me get you a nice flat spot that you're gonna put your patch on and go ahead and take some superglue and put it on the back nice super glued up and then just kind of stick it where you actually want to put the patch so I'm gonna go like right here and all that's really gonna do is it's gonna hold the patch in place so then whenever you start sewing it won't move around on it kind of like that drive a little bit check or Rooney all right that is everything I needed to do today on my day off I'm sure there's some other stuff that I needed to do but making a video was another one so check on that too again next week we leave for the 80 looking super forward to getting back on the 80 get my legs back and getting all the way to Maine it's been almost a year since we got off the trail and I I think about it every day and can't wait to get back out there so something new that snuggles and I wanted to do this week is kind of a little bit of a contest so the first ten people who go over to Darwin on the trail comm you can find my email link send me an email telling me that you want one I'm gonna send you a Darwin on the trail sticker pretty nice you can rock on your your now gene your smart water bottle your van wherever you want to rock it I'm gonna send you one of those another little bitty sticker that I won't show you yet and then snuggles is actually going to draw you a personalized picture a very small picture and then we're gonna send it to you in the mail so just hop over to Darwin on the trail comm send me an email tell me you wanna win and the first 10 people I'll send a reply email back asking for your address and we'll put them in the mail before we take off next week so good luck on that like or dislike my video subscribe to my channel if you haven't already and as always guys thanks for watching

At the end of 2014 my wife Snuggles & I decided to quit our jobs, sell 95% of the things we own, & leave our home town for good in search of adventure, culture, & the true meaning of happiness. We bought a van, traveled all over the country & hiked the entire Appalachian Trail (2189.2 miles). We are still seeking adventure in new places, meeting new people, trying new food & drink, & discovering all that we can.

This Channel has developed into a main hub for aspiring hikers & current hikers to gain info on a wide variety of Trail Topics. With a series of Trip Videos, Q&A, Tip Videos, & Gear Reviews, I aim to get you out on the trail and hiking more!

Hike On,
