hey what's up guys it's Darwin so today I'm going to do a video talking about my three favorite pieces of backpacking gear or just your in general because not only do I use them on backpacking trips I also use them on bike packing trips sometimes I just use them on a day hike some of them I use all the time in the van whenever we're traveling to different national parks but they are my three favorite pieces of gear that two of them I use the hell out of and one of them is pretty new to me so let's take a look at them so first off the number one piece of gear that I have is the one that I'm actually wearing I've had this guy for multiple years I'd say probably going on five years it has been with me everywhere from the Appalachian Trail to every national park in the US that I visited it's been with me on every type of trip you'll see a lot of my videos and a lot of my pictures um it's a it's just a they call it a quarter zip top bike open it's kind of a thermal material very breathable but also keeps me really warm I picked it up at like a Dick's Sporting Goods like five years ago on a sale rack just because I needed a little different like top a base layer and it's been great it really has it holds up to everything the sleeves are nice and long enough for me keeps me warm I can open it up to breathe better um I love this thing I really really do like I said if you check out my other videos my pictures you'll see it a lot um I just kind of can't get rid of it so even though it's not a really technical piece of gear um it is my favorite my second favorite piece of gear would be my snow Peaks 700 titanium mug um you'll see other videos where I rave about this mug my different gear setups I talk about it I have a video actually I'll go ahead and post the link it's right here a video that I kinda talk about my entire cook system um the 700 is is is great it was totally enough room on the 80 last year to cook all of my meals in for me to drink coffee in I still drink coffee out of it every single morning even here in my little apartment so um really as far as nice made technical gear it's my favorite it has been with me everywhere and it'll continue to go with me everywhere because I'm going to have a hard time breaking it so that would be number two on my favorite piece of gear and number three is a new one for me

on the 80 I switched out between a couple different sleeping bags I've had some different sleeping bags in the past and couldn't really find that perfect sleep system that I've been looking for all these years and then I found this guy I've done other videos on it and I'm sure there's some other cats out there that will do some videos on it because people really really love it it's the enlightened equipment revelation 20 bag I'm sorry

quilt it is a Down quilt it was custom made for me by enlighten equipment it has 800 fill power it's a 20 degree super lightweight super packable absolutely love this thing I taken it out on a handful of trips now super comfy I can open up the bottom on warmer nights to keep my feet cool I can actually attach it to my pad because it has straps with it to keep me warm at night I've replaced everything else with it I've gotten rid of all my other bags because it's so perfect it's going back out with me on the 80 in 4 weeks and I'm really jacked to have it the whole way it's going to keep me warm enough it's going to keep me cool enough I'll also be taking it on my bike packing trip of the Arizona Trail this November and then on the PCT starting next April so I'm really really looking forward to putting a whole lot more time in on this but as of now it's become one of my favorite pieces of gear if you get a chance go over and check out enlightened equipment they custom make it to your size your width and what you want so number three on my favorite piece of gear so not only did I do a three favorite pieces of backpacking gear video but a couple my other buddies here on YouTube did so if you get a chance go check out Pi on the trail knee Mohr's world andy caesar and jacob um they also did a video on their three favorite pieces of backpacking gear so this was kind of a collaboration video to kind of showcase everybody's favorite stuff I'll also put the links to their videos in their channels in the description box below so definitely make sure you check it out so hopefully that gave you a little bit of an insight to my three favorite pieces of backpacking gear again go check out those guys as videos go over and check out Darwin on the trail comm when you get a chance against knuckles has been posting weekly Diaries from last year when we were on the 80 and when we returned to the 80 and June she's also going to be doing new updated Diaries so make sure you keep an eye on that

Darwin Onthetrail

At the end of 2014 my wife Snuggles & I decided to quit our jobs, sell 95% of the things we own, & leave our home town for good in search of adventure, culture, & the true meaning of happiness. We bought a van, traveled all over the country & hiked the entire Appalachian Trail (2189.2 miles). We are still seeking adventure in new places, meeting new people, trying new food & drink, & discovering all that we can.

This Channel has developed into a main hub for aspiring hikers & current hikers to gain info on a wide variety of Trail Topics. With a series of Trip Videos, Q&A, Tip Videos, & Gear Reviews, I aim to get you out on the trail and hiking more!

Hike On,
Darwin
