hey guys it's star on here with a full gear review of the outdoorsman lab UL sleeping pad

[Music]

all right so lately I've been kind of looking around some cheap alternatives to ultralight backpacking for you don't exactly have to drop your entire paycheck to get ultralight and I came across this guy this pad is made by a company called outdoorsman lab they sell them over on Amazon and they retail for about forty seven dollars now this guy comes in at fifteen ounces as you can see packs down pretty small when I got this I was kind of on the fence thinking about for 40 something dollars it couldn't be that good especially since I was so used to my Zee light by thermos the one that I've been using forever but I figured I'd give it a try and I was super surprised by this thing it is an insanely comfortable pad it's insanely lightweight and it's actually really nice to use it's 21 inches wide and 6 feet long it's only about 2.2 inches thick I'm used to a much thicker pad with my thermal rest but you know this pad is really nice and really comfortable for only being a little over 2 inches thick which I was super surprised by it's because they designed it with a quilt pattern so that quilt pattern that they put on there really helps levitate you off of the ground when your full weight is spread out on the pad one thing I did find if I was just sitting on it or sometimes when I was laying on my side I could feel the ground from time to time especially if I was on a harder piece of ground with say some rocks some roots maybe a pinecone or something everyone's well I could feel something but laying on my back and I'm typically a back sleeper it was super comfortable now another key feature about this pad is the 2-way valve system so you just pop that open and start to inflate it it took me about eight full breaths to get it fully inflated and then when you're ready to deflate you just pop that open and press the small trapdoor and it releases all the air back out and you can compress it and fold it back down now the UL sleeping pad has an hour value of only 1.3 so I probably wouldn't suggest using this in any type of cold enter type camping probably only take this guy down to about 50 degrees I probably wouldn't trust it past that but if you're looking for a good pad for some summer camping or maybe even in the desert this thing would be awesome I'm six foot one and the length of this pad was really nice I never felt like I was going to come off of it and typically I sleep with my hands behind my head just kind of my thing and it was really comfortable I have kind of broad shoulders and that 21 inches wide pad really helped keep me on the pad and that whole quilted you know design really kind of hugged you and keeps you on the pad without you rolling off which was really really nice feature of it alright so again this probably wouldn't be my all-around pad that I would use in all seasons but if I was going to do some ultra light summer backpacking maybe late spring backpacking I would definitely reach for this out of my gear box and I'll definitely taking it on more trips and really putting it to the test so again these things are only 47 dollars over on Amazon I'll leave a link in the description box below if you guys want to go check those out and if you do get one or you have one leave a comment in the description box below and tell me what you think of it you haven't got a chance yet go over and check me out on Instagram because I'm posting a lot of new photos of some of the things that snuggles and I have going on throughout the week plus some pictures and previews of some of the gear that I'll be testing in the future go ahead and like or dislike this video subscribe to my channel if you haven't already as always guys thanks for watching Oh

Darwin Onthetrail

At the end of 2014 my wife Snuggles & I decided to quit our jobs, sell 95% of the things we own, & leave our home town for good in search of adventure, culture, & the true meaning of happiness. We bought a van, traveled all over the country & hiked the entire Appalachian Trail (2189.2 miles). We are still seeking adventure in new places, meeting new people, trying new food & drink, & discovering all that we can.

This Channel has developed into a main hub for aspiring hikers & current hikers to gain info on a wide variety of Trail Topics. With a series of Trip Videos, Q&A, Tip Videos, & Gear Reviews, I aim to get you out on the trail and hiking more!

Hike On,
