hey guys it's Darwin here with a full gear review on the ultra Lone Peak 3.0 [Music]

so as most of you might know I'm typically a huge maril fan I typically hike in the marrow moab ventilators that's what i hiked the Appalachian Trail in in 2015 where I hiked the ATN in 2016 so recently I decided to go a little bit light weight a little bit more comfortable and a little bit more minimalist so I decided to pick up the ultra Lone Peak 3.0 now I had heard a lot of really great things about these shoes not only just the Lone Peak 3.0 but pretty much ultras entire line mainly because of how they design their shoe they give it a foot shaped toe box and I have a really wide foot so I was looking for something for my toes to be able to sprawl out a little bit more so I figured I would give these guys a try after a section hike on the Continental Divide Trail last month and a bunch of other hiking I have been super impressed with these shoes I have about 350 miles on them so far and I have been really really pleased with how they ride so first off the claimed weight of the ultra Lone Peak 3.0 is nine point seven ounces now mine come in right at 25 ounces and that is for a size 11 and a half and I do use another type of insole in there so that's probably why there's a little bit of a difference in the claimed weight but still pretty damn light for the type of shoe that it is the ultra Lone Peak has a 5 millimeter drop and the midsole is made of a dual layer evie a phone on the sole it has these really nice lugs that aren't too aggressive but aggressive enough to get some really good traction and some really good grip on wet rocks mud and other types of slippy surfaces most of the upper is made of a quick dry trail mesh and the reason I really really like that is I'm not a big fan of waterproof shoes or gore-tex shoes mainly because my whole thought is whenever you're hiking your feet are going to get wet regardless whether it's rain you step in some water and I want a shoe that's going to be able to dry out quick and also breathe well so when I was out on my section hike of the CDT you know not only was it super hot to where my feet would be sweating a lot but also whenever I had to hike through the Gila River I had 32 water crossings and I were these the entire time now whenever I was done hiking through the river they were able to dry out rather quick I just hang them outside at camp at night and in the morning they'd be dry and ready to go another really awesome feature about the shoes it has what they call a gator trap so it's a little piece of velcro that's covered up by a little lid where you can attach your Gator so you don't have to put velcro on the back of your shoes which is really really cool and then they put a little loop up here to where you can hook the hook of your Gator into to keep it down to where it's not going to pop up on you so a really nice feature that they thought of whenever they design this shoe and then getting back to that patented ultra toe box design they shape it like a foot so you can naturally sprawl your toes out and like I said I have a pretty wide foot whenever I do wear marrows I typically have to wear they're wide and then even at that I had to do a special lacing pattern just to get them to open up a little bit more so I really love the wideness of this toe box so I've decided to make these my main shoes for my thru-hike of the PCT next year in 2018 so I'm super excited to really get them out on the trail tear them up and really put them to the test typically you'll find the ultra Lone Peak 3.0 over on Amazon from between 90 to 120 dollars so I'll put a link in the description box below you guys want to go check those out for yourself yeah I'm going to change it go over and check me out on Instagram I'm posting a lot of new photos lately of some of the things that snuggles and I have going on throughout the week plus some photos of some other products that I'll be gear reviewing in the future so go check those out if you found any value in this video go ahead and hit that like button subscribe to my channel if you haven't already and as always guys thanks for watching [Music]

Darwin Onthetrail

At the end of 2014 my wife Snuggles & I decided to quit our jobs, sell 95% of the things we own, & leave our home town for good in search of adventure, culture, & the true meaning of happiness. We bought a van, traveled all over the country & hiked the entire Appalachian Trail (2189.2 miles). We are still seeking adventure in new places, meeting new people, trying new food & drink, & discovering all that we can.

This Channel has developed into a main hub for aspiring hikers & current hikers to gain info on a wide variety of Trail Topics. With a series of Trip Videos, Q&A, Tip Videos, & Gear Reviews, I aim to get you out on the trail and hiking more!

Hike On,
Darwin
