had a really great night's sleep last night after 28 miles for the first time and quite Ohio I guess that'll do that you get pretty good sleep nice cool morning but can definitely feel the Sun and the heat on the horizon so I think I have maybe six seven miles until hiker towns plan is to get into there somewhat early which I'm gonna get there early go down to the little store get something to eat and then I'm just gonna hang out there most of the day until the Sun starts to go down it starts to cool off a little bit and then I'll hit up the aqueduct now one thing I didn't mention yesterday his is really weird I hiked 28 miles yesterday and never seen another person on the trail that's the first time that's happened since I've been out here it's just now 9 o'clock and it's already really really warm out here

already busting a sweat it's gonna be a hot one

well I finally made it into hiker town which I'm a pretty jacked about it definitely lives up to its reputation very cool very out of place and people here are awesome so go down to the store and grab me a bite to eat and then relax for a little bit well I ended up spending a quite a handful for whores at hiker town I got in there at about 10 a.m. and I left at 6 p.m. so but eight hours went down to the little store the convenience store had a few bites to eat really good Street taco some carne asada fries but I got chicken because I don't always eat beef and muffins Gatorade a bunch of her hand them stuff and just kind of hung out at hiker town I left at 6 p.m. and I am now currently walking the LA aqueduct so you are not familiar with what the LA aqueduct is it is a massive pipe system that runs from the Sierra Mountains all the way to LA and it's how la gets their water it's their their main water source unfortunately for us hikers the trail uses about 17 to 20 miles of it and when I say use 17 to 20 miles of it I mean I'm literally hiking on it you can see it behind me and if I flip the camera around you can see it in front of me just a massive pipe covered with dirt and sand so my plan is to try to hike as many miles as I can tonight which will probably end up being 17 to 20 miles and I think that I'm gonna be ending my hike tonight at about 11 p.m. so some night hiking it's supposed to be a full moon tonight though so I'm hoping that it stays pretty illuminated out here now the reason the people night hike this or hike it super early in the morning is this is the Mojave Desert and it gets crazy hot here morning I ended up packing until about 11 p.m. last night ended up being the 25 mile day like morning and then I camped somewhere off of this small dirt road they came off of the aqueduct I don't how many more miles that I have but I'm gonna try to get out of here as early as I can to get most of this done before the Sun comes up I think it's too crazy Hut [Music]

add a camp and off and rolling this is the dirt road that I was talking about you see behind me that I camped just off of last night the trail was pretty much on the aqueduct for quite some time last night and then it just kind of veered off and took this dirt road and I believe that it meets back up with the aqueduct here in a couple miles had some pretty decent sleep last night for only getting six hours he was actually less than six hours my body naturally woke up at 5:00 this morning I wanted to sleep till 6:00 because I didn't get to bed until midnight last night so the big challenge of today is water leaving hiker town yesterday I took three liters of water out and last night I was just crazy thirsty I think I drank a little more than I thought I was going to so I have a liter left and there's supposed to be a water cache in about 4 miles there's like a faucet that's off the aqueduct sometimes it's not on but apparently Bob and Richard from hiker town put like a blue barrel water cache up here so I'm hoping that that's there

[Music]

I always make sure I camel up at uh he's hyper water spot especially when I'm out here in the desert usually throw up about three four liters and I'll try to drink like half a liter sometimes even a full liter make sure I'm nice and hydrated we've uh Richard Richard and Bob are the ones who put this out here from hiker town I remember talking to toasted towed back on the pen holy trail in February and he was telling me that on this section the year that he did it this wasn't here and the faucet that's over here that sometimes is on was off so they ended up having to go like something like thirty something or almost forty miles without water so thank you Richard and Bob cuz I really didn't want to go thirty or forty miles with only one liter of water last section was a pretty brutal going through that one farm and getting out of the I mean still in the Mojave but getting out of that big desert section of the Mojave and we're back in the mountains of the Mojave and this is supposedly the last water source and tilt Tehachapi unless there's a water cache this is the last natural water source so I'm trying to take advantage of a water as much as I can in this stretch I always hear that this 40 mile stretch between Hecker town on HP is just so hot and so dry so water is life oh it's definitely appreciated today whenever I find it so I'm gonna go ahead and camo up here get another liter maybe two and then keep on hitting it I've heard there might be some water caches between here in Tehachapi but with a water cache she could never really you know count on it it does just because it people say that there's a water cache there doesn't necessarily mean there's going to be water there so drink up it is hot today this might be the only shady spot in the desert today glad I found it look how insanely awesome this is up here on this Ridge big dry section and there is a water cache a bunch o cookies like there used to be a bunch more trail magic in there a little bit of first aid gas if you want to cook big nice awesome log book here which a hot sauce put some toilet paper up here on time open this up that's so cool my 5:49 guest blog I will 100% sign that thank you so much to whoever set this trail magic and water cash up people like you or why the trail is so awesome trails Austin because of the views and because of the trail but it wouldn't be what it is without people coming out here and caring about total strangers and feeding and watering and just that little thing to brighten your day is always so amazing good morning so far today is completely polar opposite of yesterday it's nice and cool and breezy and overcast totally totally different hot sunny no breeze at all it's really kind of eerie out here these windmills it's big wind farm I have about eight miles to the road to get into Tehachapi then hi I'm gonna go with some Chinese food and some rest some pizza and some beer and hopefully hopefully see the Avengers because I really want to see that movie I think HP's like the last town that's gonna have a movie theater in quite some time so avengers chinese food pizza beer rest to hatchapee here I come [Music]

I made it through the wind farm down the mountain and now I am Road walking to get to the highway to get into touch me and throw that old thumb out and they'll get a ride can't wait for pizza and beer and Chinese food

Darwin Onthetrail

At the end of 2014 my wife Snuggles & I decided to quit our jobs, sell 95% of the things we own, & leave our home town for good in search of adventure, culture, & the true meaning of happiness. We bought a van, traveled all over the country & hiked the entire Appalachian Trail (2189.2 miles). We are still seeking adventure in new places, meeting new people, trying new food & drink, & discovering all that we can.

This Channel has developed into a main hub for aspiring hikers & current hikers to gain info on a wide variety of Trail Topics. With a series of Trip Videos, Q&A, Tip Videos, & Gear Reviews, I aim to get you out on the trail and hiking more!

Hike On,
Darwin
