White Water Safety And Rescue Training With Ray Goodwin

Description

White water safety and rescue skills are essential if you spend any time on or around rivers. If you examine the statistics of what kills people in the great outdoors, right up there, near the top of any list is water. Moving water, whatever its temperature, poses specific hazards. Those who are operating on, in or near moving water, should be well versed in safety and rescue skills.

To this end, I encourage all the outdoor leaders and aspiring outdoor leaders who work with me to undergo this type of training, whether they are paddlers or not. This is a vilog of parts of a recent training course that some of my team and canoeing partners undertook in Wales with Ray Goodwin.

As well as the river rescue techniques depicted in this film, it was a course aimed at open canoeists (i.e. Canadian canoeists) so we also covered techniques specific to rescuing open boats, which are not shown in this video.
