hi there Paul curtly here just thought I'd give you an update on what's happening with my channel I haven't posted anything here for a while so thought I'd let you know what's been going on there has been lots going on I've done quite a few overseas trips recently and also I've been taking some trips closer to home around the UK as well some good footage and stories from some of those trips coming as well as some kit tests and I haven't really posted much about kit over the years and either on my blog or here but I'm thinking about the fact that a video is a really efficient way of getting across my thoughts on some of the kit i'm using I get sent kick by companies sometimes but largely I buy my own kits I choose my own kit I pay for it with my own money and I'm interested in things that work well and I want to share my findings with you most of it's good some things don't work so well some things work better in some circumstances than others I want to share that with you so I've been testing some kit over the winter and since last year this hella context fleece for example got some more thoughts on that coming this bc be hard anodized aluminium Crusader mug that's been to Canada with me on a canoe trip it's been to Sweden with me on a winter trip and I've been using it all the time in the woods in the UK so this has had a really good hard use for the last eight or nine months and they let you know my thoughts on that too um while we're on the subject of cooking pots more recently I got this more spots I am imported from the states and it's got some really good features at its lightweight again it's hard anodized aluminium I'm going to be talking more about that in future I'm gonna be testing it more in that in future months and i'll put a video out about that when I've got some thoughts together we're on the subject of things being lightweight I get a lot of questions about Pete about how can I reduce the weight of my pack my pack weights heavy it's huge I can't pack things in the same way as you pack yours on your videos how can I reduce my pack wait how can I reduce my pack size well a lot of people are carrying kind of behemoths sleeping bags around like this and love the ex military ones and the warmer ones are this sort of size and some of the ones marketed by some bushcraft companies and outdoor companies the synthetic bags are big and bulky like this they're warm but maybe you don't need something as big and bulky as this so I'm going to look through some alternative options to get the weight down and save your back and save your feet also tarps this is the first tap that I got and it's an old Australian who cheat it's quite heavy gauge nylon it's heavier gauge than some of the ones that are on the market now and but these are still around and a lot of the army bashes and to choose our this kind of weight and this sort of size they're pretty heavy it's the size of a bag of sugar it weighs about half a kilo and do we really need to be carrying things around like that are there are other things that are going to serve as just as well they're going to be just as useful just as durable but lighter weight that we can take with us and again there's lots of ways that you can reduce the weight of your pack and still have a very useful set of kit with you so you can set up camp quickly at the end of the day we don't always want to be building natural shelters and what have you even if we're interested in bushcraft we're going to go out for different reasons we want to be able to set up camp and the kit that we take with us needs to be portable and there's lots of ways that you can reduce the weight of your pack and I'm going to have a series of videos coming out showing you how to do that concentrating on different areas that you might want to look at finally of course the core of what I do is teaching bushcraft teaching wilderness skills and there are going to be some good videos good tutorial videos coming as well in the coming months so lots to share with you in the coming months as we go from spring into summer and through the summer looking forward to seeing you on the next video thanks for watching this update and see you soon Cheers
