Water purification is important. But however much people remember about the water sterilisation protocols they should follow, there is one thing that is often forgotten. That's why I made this quick tip video, to remind you about your water bottle threads. It doesn't matter if you are using chlorine, iodine or chlorine dioxide, this simple tip is just as useful whichever one of these chemical sterilisation agents you might be applying to your water.

I hope you find this useful!

hi there I'm Paul Kurtley founder of frontier bushcraft and author of Paul Kelly's blog one of the leading sources of wilderness information and advice on the net welcome to my quick tip series and today I'm just going to give you a quick tip about water purification if you're using your water bottle and you're putting sterilization tablets in there whether it's iodine chlorine or chlorine dioxide remember the threads and what I mean by that is you put water in there from a dirty source then you've put the tablets in there they're doing their thing and they're killing off the pathogenic organisms in there you might have pre-filtered it you might be just using chlorine but the fact of the matter is that the the tablets you put in there are doing the job or the droplets you put in there or doing the job but the threads they probably still got dirty water on them particularly if you've scooped up or you've kind of gone under a a flowing piece of water a little waterfall or what have you that's probably got dirty water on it and then you've sealed that into the threads and so the sterilization tablets are working on the water in the bottle but they're not doing anything to the threads so simple quick tip is once it's had its contact time the chemical treatment turn it upside down and flush the threads with a sterilized water and then just leave it a little bit longer so that that sterilizing agent if there's any pathogenic organisms left on there that can just kill off anything that's left that's a much safer way to really fail safe way making sure everything that touches your mouth and goes into your mouth is clean and good to drink that's my quick tip for today hope you've enjoyed that I hope you find that useful if you enjoyed this go to my blog loads more information Paul curtly co uk
