Bushcraft: How To Tie An Evenk Hitch

Description

http://paulkirtley.co.uk/

The Evenk hitch is a really useful knot for quickly attaching a fixed line to an upright such as a tree - ideal for quickly pitching a tarp. It's also useful for setting up a hanging line under your tarp (see http://frontierbushcraft.com/2012/04/05/tarp-hanging-line/ for tips on how to get organised under your tarp).

When you need to air your sleeping bag in the morning, you can use this hitch to string up a bit of paracord between two trees in the sunshine (use a round turn and two half hitches or a taut tarp hitch at the other end). Similarly it's useful for even popping up a quick drying line in camp when you come to wash your clothes on extended wilderness trips.

The knot tied is effectively a slippery figure-of-eight knot with the added feature of a quick release.

Used by the Evenk reindeer herders of Siberia, this knot developed as a quick way to tie off reindeer to trees without needing to expose your hands to the cold for very long, tying other fiddly knots.

hi there poor Kelly here founder of the award-winning frontier bushcraft and author of Paul Kelly's blog the leading source of wilderness bushcraft advice and information on the net in this video I'm going to share with you how to tie the advantage the first knot you're going to tie when you're setting up your tarp so without further ado after the woods we go okay so I'm taking the main cord off the top around the tree live end in my right hand the free end in my right hand

then I place my left hand underneath both pieces of cord I wrap the live end around my hand then I don't need to worry about keeping hold here I just dropped my hand bring it round over the top so effectively it's done 180 degrees then I use these two fingers here like pincers to take hold of the live end here and I pull through not the whole cord but a loop like so then I create this knot here that looks like a nice figure of 8 shape once I've got that slide that up to the tree so there you have it how to tie the event hitch really useful and getting your tarp set up quickly when you're well practice with that knot you can do it in no time it's really really very quick so I hope that serves you well I hope you find it useful thanks for watching and I'll see you on the next video
