hi hi you guys doing this William Irish Mass outdoors and today we're going to be continuing in our budget blade series and we're going to keep on going with the 5 to 20 range and today what I have for you guys is Old Hickory butcher knife just a legend you know great great knife guys this is a 13 dollar blade the handle might not be the absolute greatest in the world it's a $13 knife and it's one of the best that I have found actually I think it's ten dollars on Amazon yeah I mean I found these for 6 bucks by Union plus shipping and things like that it's a full tang knife you know I hear things about not ppattani with this blade because of you know the Pens getting loose and handles get kind of loose I've been baton with this thing for weeks now and it still as tight as when Chris gave it to me Chris actually gave me this knife for me to test out and I'm really really impressed with it actually gave it to my wife for one of her main bushcraft blades and there you go so we're going to test this out on some wood and see what happens we got some iron wood down here Hopalong bean alright guys we're going to see how this axe up into tying this muscle wood here and I don't think it's going to be any problem really but this is has a real good reputation for being one of the hardest woods around and it's true but this old hickory just goes right through like butter guys and for as cheap as this knife is if you're on a budget or you know what even if you're not on a budget I would recommend having one of these as a backup blade and a hammer stack or a main pack or something like that

this is a great knife not only is it cheap but it is really really useful it's just making easy work out of this stuff guys

it's got a great edge on it this is one of the best knives that I have for sharpening it takes an edge really really easily doing some shaping chops just you know if I wanted to start shaping a spoon out start shaping my handle an Ironwood spoon every night this knife is amazing guys for 13 bucks 14 bucks you're probably not going to find something better you know this would be the one thing that I would say would beat out amaura this is a 7 inch blade a little bit big for me especially you usually prefer things in the 4 or 5 inch range as far as main blades go but you know so for a main blade its full tang you could beat on no big deal that the thickness isn't that huge I'm not sure Kristen you know how thick this blade is ah very thin you know I'm not very a hundred percent on the blade thickness I'll go ahead and I'll add that to the screen somewhere it'll be it'll be on there somewhere but you know that's not the thickest blade in the world but like I said guys for under 20 bucks you're not going to be able to beat that and then adding a twenty dollar Pena knife literally a more companion I'd say you got the complete set there guys you've got a knife that's going to be better than this at smaller tasks and then you're going to have a man knife that's better for the the harder stuff the more are you're going to be able to beat on this knife a little bit more than a mora and you know it's a butcher knife so that's what it's going to excel at as well is butchery well guys you know for the money there's not much more I can say about this ninth man is it's phenomenal it's a great knife it's going to be great for skinning butchering animals it is good for smaller camp tasks you know notching is all that stuff you know if I had just this knife I could do everything that I wanted to in the woods if I had a more companion I could do even more efficient tasks

you know this will do the task but maybe a smaller blade like a more companion would do it more efficiently now we just round out the package so we got another one of these old hickories here that a buddy of mine kind of made some modifications to it to make it a smaller blade the reason why I did is because he was experimenting in knife making and things like that just wanted to kind of show you that you know for 1314 bucks you could get a blade like this and turn it into kind of a smaller patch knife and if you mess it up go buy another one thirteen fourteen bucks down on the stomp you know I just thought that was pretty neat that you know kind of ground it down and made his own little creation out of it and Brian we're just so you got this sheet from so you went to knife kits calm got him a little sheath for it fits perfectly well that's just pretty cool let's just ingenuity you know people think outside the box just wanted to show you guys that but back to the Old Hickory itself you know like I said Chris gave me this knife and gave me the sheath with it and this is just a UMC I'm sorry USMC k-bar sheath fits perfectly in here and you can find these in a lot of places Chris where did you get this chief from ten bucks on amazon two replacement shoes so it doesn't even have the markings on it right I mean you know that's just a great package for as cheap as that is I mean that's cost efficient with the reliability that this Old Hickory will have for you all right guys so like I told you this blade would fit into the five to twenty dollar range just like we did with the more a companion and I'm really impressed with this blade so far I've had it for three or four weeks and like I said I usually don't do reviews on anything unless I have been using it for out of milk and I'm definitely impressed with this play you guys these Old Hickory butcher knives are amazing for what they cost I mean why not have one just doesn't you could have expensive knife that's all well and good I do I have this could easily be put in a get home bag or and whatever we'll have you in AB Haverstock as a backup plate whatever you know a little bit big in my opinion for a backup Lehane but you know for $14 does you know then we could kind of come down here and this is really good for this kind of technique side use for starting out my spoons and things like that 20 days we're going to actually get on camera car the sphere has done that yet you know that's how I start shaping my handles or just something as simple as a tint tape rolled around give these small chops

there you go and then obviously this is a straight stick in the world but if we start rolling it squirrel good let's just get the point across cause this was a greatest tent peg but you know that gives us a straight break then we can come in here and make our notching or online so basically this knife it's seven inches and it is high carbon steel but it can take small caps like this yeah basically tempeh

just something to get the point across about what this time can do guys this knife being seven inches you got a lot of blade to work with now might be a little bit on the big side as far as my liking goes but it's a very very well balanced nice knife to handle as far as small detail work goes we've got that in the bag too and all that fine carving that we did and the light chopping that we did you know the edge on this knife is still absolutely holding up and for it being carbon steel you know that's good you know some people say you gotta go slow on the paper too you know let's show you how well that edge is holding up which it does very very well the back of this knife is a very very good nice crease line let's break out a Ferro rod here and show you guys I mean that is amazing very very good night it is fine enough guys this knife is full tang the cutting surface is seven inches overall I think it's around 10 inches 10 or so inches but there you go guys you know a word of caution and when using this for the pounding these pins can get free loose and you know your knife with jiggled loose but I've batons with this knife quite a bit and it hasn't yet and I could say guys I'm really really impressed with the edge attention on this knife being carbon steel like this and that back of that nine that back of that ninth fine being a sharp knife gree as it is $14 guys you can't beat that alright guys so the old hickory and the more they go in the series under the five to $20 range knives that pretty much closes the series out once I find some more in that range then we'll add to it but we're going to move on from here and move up in price a little bit get to some of the more expensive blades you know getting Susie the 20 25 to 50 range 50 to 75 on and on and on just to show you guys what knives are out there you know you don't have to spend $300 on a knife cuz that's a lot of what I get it from my facebook and youtube like oh wow that nice $300 there's no way all that knifes $275 way too expensive that's fine not a big deal you know but there are other options out there you know cheap does always mean crap guys there's a difference between cheap and cost-efficient and in my opinion these two blades the more in the Old Hickory are cost-efficient all right guys listen we must mess out the worst I hope you guys are enjoying this new series on pledge plates if you are I really appreciate you click subscribe down below liking my videos really helps me and my channel out lot appreciate re views comments to support hopefully we'll see you out in the woods and today what I got for you guys is the old hook hook curry 3 2 1 all right guys listen William our smash outdoors I hope you're enjoying the series on budget blades and if you are
