Primitive Fishing with Horse Hair and a Bamboo Rod - Catching Fish with a Stick

Description

In this video Graeme makes a Primitive Fishing rod from a bamboo cane, he uses horse hair as fishing line and he tries to catch a fish using primitive fishing skills. Learning Primitive Technology is a great way to get back in touch with our past. Honing and developing the skills to survive in the wilderness with almost nothing. Crafting stone tools from hand, building natural shelters with natural materials, using Bushcraft to connect and utilise the materials that nature can provide. These are all important towards self reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle. Although this video features modern equipment in some parts of the fishing, it still brings across the primitive skills that can be applied to help you survive. Graeme shows a number of ways to plait and braid the horse hair to make it stronger, he splits the bamboo stick to strengthen it with another piece of bamboo. He uses modern day paperclips, and moulds them into eyelets for the fishing rod. And he uses an ancient 120 year old miniature fishing reel. We hope you enjoy this short primitive video!
