so first few things but if you want to get into shooting advise going to your local clay Club and it's the best place to start because you get taken through proper safety briefed on how to shoot safely you'll get taught how to shoot and then build up some experience through that Avenue and once you've done that and you're still into shooting then you should look to apply with your local constabulary for a license it's not too difficult to do you will need two referees

I think it's 40 pounds for a new license to Hampshire Constabulary and after that yes if you should want to go out and shoot some game or you're going to shoot some vermin you'll need to get permission from a local landowner and make sure you understand the boundaries of where you can and cannot shoot I'll advise if you can if you know some with some experience take you out the first few times know what you're doing and most important thing it really is to be safe what I'm going to do now is just talk to you a little bit about this gun so this is a Beretta 686 silver onyx it's the gun I use and it's the 30 inch barrels it's a 12 gauge that refers to essentially it's the volume of lead you could fit in the barrel is how the guns gauged and 1/12 of a pound of legs and fitness so it's a 12 12 gauge and so over and under you can select which bow to use with the selector here you'll see your safety caps so this is currently in a safe position so you can see the s wants to cock the gun push that forward that's now ready to fire boxes no cartridges in it so you've got to keep it clean after every use make sure the oil or the bowels are clean and you can disassemble a gun take a foregrip here and sometimes you for a deeper clean you can just take it apart put it back together quite easily like that you gun this there's a lot of rules obviously with keeping shotguns and rifles they need to be in a secure cabinet when you get your license if you do to the sides go for your license a policeman will come around interview make sure you set up safe and make sure it's all compliant you have to have a gun cabinet with ammunition stored in a separate location as we bolted into the wall so no one can get it and only one person can allocation of the keys in the house so this is a multi choke gun so what that means is I actually have the ability to change the chokes in the end the chokes essentially so when the shot spreads out after its fired the chokes will keep us or narrower pattern as it's cool if you've got a heavier choke gun and then you'll have a narrower shot pattern which can be sort of advantageous for shooting birds at maybe bit further out and and then you have a say like to choke on the other barrel for birds are coming in quite close with a sort of a wider spread moving on from sort of chokes talked a little bit about cartridges so this is a super game-high bird see it's 12 12-gauge shotgun cartridge and and what these numbers refer to is 30 30 grams that's how much the weight of the shot that's in there that does vary some people might use heavier shot especially if you're shooting bigger game some people like to use lighter shot say it travels faster so everyone's got their preference really so obviously never the actual easing the most important thing is safety there's a huge amount of etiquette that goes with shooting and that's something you learn by speaking to people as you go along and maybe go take yourself on a beat there's a great way to get familiar some of the the the etiquette of shooting pheasants so you can go and observe and help the guys driven game and it's always important whatever you're doing with the gun to make sure it's it's always broken when you want to you know unless you're about to shoot you on a peg you want to work I have cartridges in there what I always keep it as safe as possible and yet never obviously shoot with people in front of you and the 45 degree rule so it's a basic rule for shooting pheasants you don't want to shoot anything under 45 degrees because you risk of injuring or hurting or killing someone so that's some of the basic principles of shooting and obviously shotguns as well so if you're using a 6 or 7 shoot birds and shotguns are not designed for range for a start there yet bed designed for sort of shooting scene that's moving or sewing quite close and so you have a limited limited range when it comes to when it comes to shooting special sixes and sevens and eights and probably sort of more than sort of 50 60 yards it becomes to come quite difficult and yeah you obviously you want to keep things in range don't be pricking birds you know damaging birds you want you want a nice clean kill where you possibly can so it's another thing to to take into consideration is what range you'll have what kind of cartridge you're using in your gun and make sure yet you'll keep them keeping everything safe it's important to select the right cartridge for the right job and so make sure you speak to someone who's who's got the knowledge if you have a gun and you have a license obviously you know what you're doing but and obviously speaking to experts maybe at your local gun Smith's someone as someone as we talked about someone who can advise you and what kind of cartridge you should be using for what kind of quarry so your most common gauge of shotgun you'll probably see on your shoot is 12 and 20 ball people do short shoot with for tens as well but I'd say 12 12 12 gauge 20 and 410 are the most common kinds of gun you'll see on a shoot and when you go out here in England and you'll see shotguns or some similar way you can get single barrel shotguns semi automatic shotguns I think you need a special license I think a no you need a special license if you want anything that holds more than three rounds and that be on a semi-automatic shotgun this is an over-and-under until you see the top and bottom bow that's why over and under more traditional gun you see on a pheasant shoot would be a side-by-side and

these sort of guns sort of increased in popularity is just a general sort of all-round use sort of gun obviously in other parts of the world they do have guns that can can hold several cartridges but in this part of the world it's much more sporting just to have one or two to hit hit your prey
