we're here with a totally awesome outdoor show yeah I'm in my garage and workshop what can I make mm-hmm I could make a boat but I really want to make a bookshelf well how about if I make a boat in the shape of a bookshelf or a bookshelf in the shape of a boat of course some pallet work there listen I've got some special pallet worth there it is enormous I don't know what they put on these pallets I've had to saw them up just to bring them home and that's all you do before I want because it gives me a long piece of wood I'm gonna enjoy just one big piece better still is slightly thinner slats and it's been out in the rain now that means that that's quite soft and pliable because when you try and Bend pallet wood it can be quite Britain if you're in a hot country I'm here in the UK no it's not a hot country and its moist wet as they say so that wood is gonna be a little bit more pliable I want to strip those pallets down quite quickly and at least assume the main position around the curve at the top so that the bottom is gonna come out straight lines you know make the bow of a boat came right come here month maybe you've seen them maybe you've seen them before books you've got a fine copy one have a microwave or no I haven't I've had a good go at it I'm not gonna enjoy doing it right strip down those thin pallets into these long that's a long relatively thin wet wood that's my main reason I'm working quite quickly I'm going to make them each side to side four petals white just commencement of say for those news on tape measures well foot your foot if you do three if you want I don't think he was going to make any difference really to three or four worth but I'm gonna have to support the bottom and the bigger first because I'm gonna happy imagine this that's one side bent across if I can to give me a speed of an arc shape so it looks like the bow of a boat that's gonna be my problem I'll go knock that bottom off a level with a nice thick ball across there probably just made it for now and what about here work out where I wanted to start bowing inward right I've got the two side panels supported here top and thirty-six inches up from the bottom now I'm gonna fix a base plate through the middle possibly eighteen inches wide

having a boat it's not really really really wide about eighteen inches and then another 18 you support here and when that's rigid I'm gonna try and both the two together to make a bow at the top here I can out cut those two side panels tacked together at the bottom I can always move those I'm always going to change them I've got those tacked together at bottom I'm now starting to close the top up with a spacer bar here and I can stretch it stretch it stretch it best thing I would do is to show it take the camera off the tripod just walk you around it and you'll get more of an idea okay say here's the two panels I made so you can see it's one two three four wide all the way down I haven't cut the top four wide all the way down I've got the support part down here and they also just sticking out to just regular spacer bars support bar there support bar here and then I'm obviously gonna close this and pinch it all up now I've done that because this wood is still wet so pliable I've bound it together at the top here with rope hopefully you see yeah okay that's closed it all up and then I put these support bars here to actually stop it springing open and I know that's at the right measurement because I can cut this I'm going to put a cap over the top I can run and cut this level in a minute not a problem but what I want to do is one of these shelves I've jammed that piece of wood there you can see I'm gonna get the hammer and hammer it up and put this bow where angles across a little bit tighter you've got to be very very careful hey this doesn't pop out the wood will still be held together at the top by the rope they might pop out it's all suck it and see

I don't really know they might go but I want to tap this up and bring it up about here if I can without snapping this piece of wood I've thrown if I did it with dry wood it would snap if I do this while it's still wet it should be have some sort of flexibility in it we'll give it a go anyway this in the middle of this piece of wood which is just under 10 inches I've got that at the top you can make any piece of wood but he supply we would be good to use it to stretch it all the way up I'm gonna get it as far as I can I'm not hitting it on the corners because I think that will skid out a lot but just collapse I'm trying to tap it up and keep this dead level can tell it's getting tight because it's starting the glitch crank over one side here so just keep going Jenny a front living this side up gonna check at the top everything seems to be holding together the ropes tight there this is on a lot of pressure now as long as those are holding I can go a little bit further now the tip don't hit it so hard that you split the wood otherwise it's just going to collapse back on you just start the skip back a little bit on this side I feel all right on the limit as far as idea goes I just come back here hopefully you can see the boat shape there the front half of the boat I'm gonna make that shelf fix there now and down the bottom I'll put another couple of shelves in there around the back of here I now need to cut as many panels as I can obviously this plate will be the front I can remove this I need as many counters that I can to hold this together at the back that's my main state of support this shelf which is totally jammed now I don't want to start from the bottom and sort of stack it all the way up I'll probably overlap it and then cut it with a juice all what if I put space it'll float okay so I cut the outside edge of the shelf off there the one that I used as a sort of pressure point to pull it through the bound together kind of piece of pallet wood right down the middle of 12 inches and I've got that as a chef simple screwed it into the parts from the side and I screwed it rather than a it I think if I nail it look at this monster and that's on the pressure so that's all screwed together then I can start making the shape up here now you could if you wanted measure all these and cut them individually but don't forget that there's a slight curve on it some I feel will way through this is not overlap it purposely like this and then I can come along and follow up with the jigsaw I'll follow that curve all the way and being the back plate I'm just going to

they own this together using galvanized now work out over the list because I've got left over you're not dealing with a qualified confident on the qualified in anything qualified in fishy but have great fun making things as a way should be cut the circus off get narrow as I go and of course something we can see I pulled it throughout now I'm just starting to run this edge all the way down just slowly and that way I retain that curve

okay but all the panels across the back I've run the edge of the jigsaw blade flush with the sides okay on that nice taper curve are now left with the rope at the top I'm gonna undo the rope and I feel absolutely sure with all these nails in place is not going to suddenly explode and spring apart on me so I'm gonna undo the rope I'm gonna put another couple of snaps here and they're going to put a cap on the front very very slight it can't go any more than that because it's held following all those other back supports another one or two here cut across the top get a straight edge there and I've marked up a straight edge here look at this two here and I'm gonna run the blade down here so it's at least it's all level okay let's check it out there is the bo effect don't got it does indeed look like a boat I've got my shelf fixed in here with screws screwed into here screwed into their rock-solid shelf there I've got my little bow cover here that all boats have just at the front there and that don't forget doesn't just look okay it's actually helping to pull those in and obviously that's attached to the front one the other ones are pulled together we're just using a clamp here and then firing some screws in around the back around there it's all totally paneled in there now as you can see that's all panel getting ready so now we're gonna do is to move it around the front again decide where I'm going to put the sheriff's I might remove these and if you look I've left the points of the nail sticking up so that I can tap them back out and take those out so I think that's too close to a shelf I'm gonna drop the shelf maybe one here one there and a base plate a little bit more work to do but looking good and looking very very boaty okay we'd phase three I've got that triangle cut off here to give it a nice bit of shape and finish to the top if you can imagine that's the bow of the boat I've cut down here I put my first shelf put in I've measured down here you can measure it whatever you want the lady did it say about 12 inches are still left down the bottom here my supports in because I want to retain that shape and I want to hold these outside sides of the boat I'm gonna call it I want to hold those together while I screw in the supports for the shelving once those shelving supports are in there then obviously I can release the others this top shelf you've probably those are just five four screws in here just to hold that all in place for my top shelf that you don't have to it should slide in it it's not gonna go anywhere but I want to sort leave it fairly rusty but I'll put that one in there and I wanna sleep put the screws in at an angle if you put the screws into vertical you can't get let me just you cannot get the cordless drill can't get the cordless screwdriver sorry vertical enough so put them in at a slight angle the same she possess and make sure that they line up with a support brackets or remains now is I've got to put this support brackets in further down I'm not gonna bother screwing the base brackets in what I've done I've cut of measuring obviously the internal I just leave a millimeter or two other side for when this wood does dry out even more it might shrink it may expand as obviously if changing medium is wood it can change shape a bit so I've cut that so it's lighting with a little bit of play there slide the second one across the back obviously the same width but I've cut it flush I've actually cut the ball in half so this matches the front of that it just those can be screwed in they can be mounted or they can be left I'll just finish off these last supports up here and then hopefully all the shelving is done I'm just going to finish putting these screws in here on the second shelf down obviously if you want to make it stronger you put the screw in from the thin side the outside into the thicker side and you can't glue it if you want to do it as well I'm okay with the screws I'm not gonna take them on away so all these treat them up the same principle they show no you can't cut them on the same side because the outside of the boat is always getting wider the further down you go so I'm going to slide that in there cut it so you can get that the screw every one you don't have to nail every one okay obviously you want it just put a pin here and a pin here on the outside one to stop those balls coming out now I've got one two three shelves there so I can feel I can afford just not these nails out that I've left here sticking out get my claw hammer pull those out and the first suppose I started with should come out and I should still retain that boat show well I said the object of the exercise it's trying to make you look failure with entik on one of most boats have they have an engine on the back that we don't have a back well they have always two Rolly

there's no room out here yeah I'm just going to cut a shape out of a robot hole and drill a hole there there's no point you couldn't who's rut looking this gonna stick out but I feel just to finish it a little bit of shape and angle around here are the solid like that

we'll just finish it off we did Lee ready for sanding painting staining varnishing whatever you want okay I've cut my block so you see how shaped out for the rowlocks and I've drilled a hole as though it was going to be a grown up there and I'm using 40 mil inch to quarter long must head nails which are quite thin just as I don't think I need screws in there to be honest no stage hey you can leave it roughly if you're going to stain in a wood rust it you know sort of stain color I'm just going to knock the edges off some of these tagging bits and the edges here where the saw cuts pull the timber away not going straight and then I'm going to give it a coat paint I think and that's what I'm going to go probably go shabby chic is that what they call it you know that shabby chic look it depends what paint I've got left on the shelf that's free let's be honest well the paint's drying we've got the Shelf back in the house it looks really cool we cannot believe that this has been made

ivory train pallet wood but just showed you this is what you can do think you'll agree that sort of unit could go anywhere in the bedroom in a home you look great in a log cabin and the paint's dried out really well as you can see with the shelves you can get your ornaments in there no problem at all you can even get books and you can get big books in there because I have made that twelve inches there so plenty of space of books that you can put what on one you want in there but I think it looks pretty good mm I might even make a bigger one next time who knows thanks for watching the totally awesome outdoor show DIY section tell your friends hit the subscribe button and most important have a go at making something yourself you
