hi guys doing this william irish myths outdoor today we're going to show you guys how to navigate by primitive means don't go away that alright a word of caution before i show you the techniques in this video we're going to be navigating using shadows from the Sun and that's going to give you a general ideal of direction it's not going to be very accurate and we're going to show you some compasses magnetic compasses side by side with it you'll see the discrepancies that that are there but if you don't have anything this will get you a basic general direction and then you'll be off on your way alright so the first method that i'm going to show you guys is the shadow love stick method and hopefully you guys can see this shot of this being cast on the ground here and what we're going to do is we're going to look up at the Sun and we're going to try to point the stick as close to the Sun is possible chasing that shadow that you can see all the way until that shadow disappears that stays disappeared you don't want any shadow on the front or back and that'll do right there alright so the stick basically all the shadow is gone out of its point it pretty much directly at the Sun now we're going to give it about 20-30 minutes and we're going to check back in on it alright guys to the next method that we're gonna show you is the shadow stick method and what I have here is a stick and I want this a straight in here as I possible can and the straightest dick possibly that i can get and I'm just gonna take big steps by here I'm going to place one twig right at the point where the shadow stops right there and then I'm gonna wait for about 10-15 minutes and I'm going to see where the shadow moves and then I'm gonna place another pin so don't go away you

alright guys so it's been about 10 minutes let's go ahead and put another one right here right at the tip where that shadows being cast wait 10 more minutes

all right guys what you looking at here are 10 minute intervals of putting the sticks right at the tip of the shoutout let's go ahead and take a straight stick here and place that right on against those sticks and then right in the middle go and put a straight stick or as straight as possible and pump it up against one to keep the shrink and so if we're facing the Sun that's south so if you got your back against the Sun you're facing north at that time so you've got an east-west line and north-south line let's go check that against the compass we'll see how off this is like I said this is going to be a general direction it's not going to be right on as you can see this compass tells me north is more in this direction so so you can see I have a northerly direction it's not perfect but I know about which way is north as you can see the shadows been recast in this direction so we kind of give it a little pop like that when you see where the shadow begins if you have a hard time seeing that sometimes i do i just put a post that just like that now that we have is the east-west line we can put our stick up against it just like that let's go check that alright guys so as you can see it was a little bit more all right guys this building fires mess up first in the background here making his first appreciative show you guys how that turns out here probably on facebook make sure you check out the mass out the worst facebook page if you're interested in seeing photos of that and if you like this video I appreciate you guys subscribe to the channel like in the video helps me out a lot appreciate all your views comments the sport hopefully we'll see you out in the woods alright so the first method that i'm going to show you guys is real easy your shadow just keep it because I ballston that's no big deal who used to true West this is going to give you a pretty close general direction that's pretty much all you need if you're you know I need a head north where I need to head east I get my general direction and I'm off and pretty much the margin for error is pretty big with these air with these methods sorry
