Building a Bushcraft Camp in the Forest - Wood Saw Horse, Tarp Chair, Log Cabin Notches

Description

I head to our secondary Bushcraft Camp where we build a Bushcraft Tarp Chair and a Saw Horse. We light up the camp fire and show you how we built our Bushcraft equipment using various log cabin notches and lashing with cordage. Badger's Rest camp is starting to look like an awesome off-grid home. Once we've built some natural shelter and perimeter walls, the bug out style camp will start to really develop - What would you guys like to see there?

well I tell you what I'm tired now guys that's a lot of sawing a lot twine in a lot of time but what we done is made a second sawhorse so Burt you guys know in different countries what you call them we've made this one now of all dead wood timber here because we're going to have to start getting ready for the winter when we want more fires so basically you can see triangular shape there the first one that we made I made that up at Mike's other fault I'm going to fold it the default one I just made it's a straight V but the one I have at home actually has a double axel piece here and the reason for you that's fine the outside ones for a long piece but when you want to catch a short piece it's doing like this so I then go to a short piece and I can cut through the middle there much easier just watch your hands I put the foot on therefore one two easy that one and that is my size for splitting down if I want the log burn on fire the long one is for making steaks and stuff like that so although we got the main structural supports of the triangles here I supports across the bottom really the most important part are these triangles here you can see this is an oblong you put that cross bar there it gives it a lot more rigidity and you reverse it the other way so I've got one cross bar going up here one cross bar going up there and that's made it listen we can we can level out with the ground we've only just put this in place just literally efficient ever a bit of a break you just work it down like this into this peak base already already that's rigid I've used poly prop cuz I'll use poly pop on my boat and like eight or ten mill I can anchor my boat it's amazing stuff it doesn't rot it's like a nylon but more important it doesn't slip so it what I call cinches down tie but if I use my little tying stick here pulling that's a really good idea and incidentally was a guy that commented on Mike's one of my films they gave me the idea of that thanks very much pal it works a dream it saves my hand cutting but this stuff cheapest chips to pound fifty an entire roll the other benefit is I keep loosing this I don't wanna make another one now I realize there's a hole in the twine how convenient is that I know where everything is it's gonna get your feet in yeah that's laughter mitt dad that was the brainchild of the of that awesome sawhorse really practical I have to admit for me it saves you back than it was for so long at my last camp I was just soaring down the floor or an unlock about this high main boy and actually it makes a massive massive difference just not having especially like autumn winter time where you need to saw a lot of wood we're gonna stop are we yeah yeah we're gonna get a log store sorted feel free to throw some suggestions guys for what you would like to see at this camp because we're really open to UM be I mean we named the camp you got you got you subscribers names yeah we like to try and get you involved as much as you can so if you've got some ideas maybe of anything Bush crafty or you know that you'd like to see in a camp that perhaps you guys aren't able to access or be able to build please pop in the comment section something that you'd like to see at the camp we've got a latrine aka toilet we've got the fire pit yeah we've got the this sort of sit here we've now got the sawhorse we've got a wall one wall up we've already got natural wall behind us and dad it looks like you're sitting in we just did the chair this bushcraft chair that's done a similar one but I've noticed it's got half in it I did cheat I didn't do a fully authorised bush bath chair I did I yeah hum for chair for the old man to sit in and I'll tell you what it's really good I could make some adapters but quite rigid on the back there and I find that if I have this bit of top they're just gone

yeah bit of a curve yeah and get my back into I don't know I can stretch my legs right out by the fire which is pretty toasty

I am I gave that chair ago actually and the difference is because I've got rigid poles wood behind my back it doesn't go to the contours of my back as a fit for that tarp

although not bushcraft II it's actually way more practical because it just it's like a hammer exactly I can hammer it just cut it curves or the contours of your back so for me look I'm not really bothered because I'm younger than that and I don't get a stiff back as much but no offense to hamper don't worry I'll get down I can't get out yeah yours it's strange because the angle you feel hot your needs above your ears but they're not builds no I'm not one of those but in hindsight I could have put the spar at the bottom higher but I guess you guys won't know how did that stupid old man make that on his own he did and this is how I did it [Music]

and that's my version of a really nice drawing

Kemp J well personally when I was editing that bit cuz I didn't see that dad was dad was filming himself when I was editing that I thought that was really neat really neat and actually it's it's simpler than this but it still just as practical it doesn't take us long to it doesn't take us long to make as this because she's less soaring less you're less cutting yeah so if you're thinking about speed that's probably yeah quite quick to make another one another tip guys is you come in cam that one's gonna get wet this one I could just turn upside down just roll it over there turn upside down yeah it was now you may have seen this guys I've been using it a fair bit lately it's a it's on a downer at the moment like a neck dangler and I'll just show you it's got a lovely little leather sheath and it's nice and compact it's only that small it takes up no space is no weight to it what is that copper sort of mouthpiece brass no no no that's the narrow end it's a blowpipe weave these blow pipes before like a bellows in our videos and it's just a telescopic like that what would some meter nearly I'll tell you some probably nearly a meter long and obviously the fat end this end is the end that you blow in the thin end it narrows down so that you're the pressure of the air increases as it goes down the pipe and that brass bit is to protect this metal bit from the fire because it's brass can withstand the heat a bit more so you don't put it right in the fire you put it about that far away and just steady steady breath would you say one breath you don't need to blow harder you can't blow hard because you're as restricted but the force it puts into that fire is unreal show that nail we put the camera on to show you three blows and yeah that's it as you can see guys the four is pretty much down to almost coals really I'm gonna get it back to an ember a small flame now I could just blow now with my mouth and yeah it's fine I'll probably get it going nice and quickly but I'm gonna get a lot of smoke in my face and then and I'm gonna have to take quite a few breaths out of my lungs this is gonna be slower I don't have to breathe as hard and watch probably two or three breaths and this will go so just aim it near the fire keep my fit my head's well out the way so it doesn't get hot and there will be a bit of ash because there's loads of ash there it's one brat Hey

so that's three breasts and I've barely exerted any energy at all obviously I would now put much more sticks on that and then blow it I was just blowing to you to give you guys an example camera is too hot it's like a forge isn't it yeah generally just turn it was like a forge guys it got so hot because we put no sticks on there is just blowing coals but like I say telescope it stores down nice and small I've got a little leather sheath that I pop it in goes over the neck job done and that way if it's on the neck I think I'm walking around I think a lot of fires really nice low just pop it out let's cop it out get the fire game guys thank you very much for watching this episode we really appreciate it you may have heard my throat it's a bit ragged and that's because I have my stag do last weekend yeah ovarian I say last weekend I got back a day ago over in Budapest so if you're watching from Hungary or Budapest awesome awesome city really loved it had a lot to drink remember do you remember I remember remember yeah I remember I had a good time but really good so that's why my throat Schmidt ragged but I'm actually getting married in two weeks time so the videos may go a bit slow over that period and when I'm on a honeymoon but hopefully I'll be able to film enough to schedule some more we get video there thank you very much for watching this episode of ta outdoors we really appreciate it if you did enjoy it give it a thought give it a thumbs up like and if you're not subscribed please do subscribe to the channel we'd really appreciate it
