Camp Yeast Bread & Meal on wood twig stoves - Connies Camp Cooking

Description

Connie and Lonnie bake up a loaf of yeast bread along with some moose steak and carrots while using Firebox wood burning twig stoves out in the woods. They show you how you too can bake bread even in the woods under less than ideal weather. They bake the yeast bread using a wood twig stove and a modified cooking pot.

==========

Camp Bread Recipe

INGREDIENTS

3/4 t active dry Yeast

1/4 C warm water

1/2 t sugar

-----------

1/8 C or 2 T sugar

2 T oil

1/2 t salt

1/2 C warm water

1 2/3 C unbleached all purpose flour

----------

DIRECTIONS

In ziplock type baggie, mix the following dry ingredients from the lower section of ingredients list before leaving home, sugar, salt and flour

From the top section of the ingredients list mix water, sugar and yeast in a small container. Allow this to set for 1/2 hour or less in a warm environment.

When done "proofing" and yeast is active, pour into suitable sized container and add a bit of the dry ingredients from the baggie. Next add all the water and oil and mix well. Continue to add the remaining dry ingredients a bit at a time and mix well. Be sure and have a bit of extra water and a bit of extra flour so that you can add one or the other to the dough if needed to be assured of bread dough that will be the right consistency. Once bread dough is of a consistency that it can be handled with hands, begin kneading the dough as you see Connie doing here. Knead for up to 10 minutes. Oil or grease the loaf pan and place bread dough in loaf pan. Place in a warm location to rise approximately 20 - 30 minutes. Bread will continue to rise a bit when baking also so don't allow bread to rise too much before baking. Now just bake until bread is a golden brown and sounds hollow when "thumped". Slice and spread with favorite topping and enjoy.
