hi today I'm going to share a very simple and very fun and very effective way to get into really good shape out in the woods I call this the power stick and it has so many uses out here I'm going to go over a number of different exercises that you can perform great thing about this is that it's really going to help you to build up your stabilizer muscles in other words it's going to create very functional strength first thing you're going to need is a very hard stick okay that's my humor for the day but seriously you want this to be able to hold your weight so when you find your stick put it between the crook of two trees make sure that I can support your full body weight even when you're bouncing on it really hard okay more jokes

this is Ironwood you'll have something in your area that that it will work that is a really good strong resilient wood the first exercise are stability push-ups you're going to want a log then to balance your stick across it when you do a push up you're going to have to stabilize yourself you're going to go over sideways like any other pushup you can modify this you can do it off of your knees you can have it this logs pointed uphill you can have a log this pointed downhill a lot of different ways to modify this but here's the basic idea when you start out unless you've done a lot of other stability type training this is going to be difficult to balance so I really advise to start out on something low to the ground that way I try it and I fall to the side I'm not going to go anywhere you do this ten feet up in a tree it's going to be a different situation but if you want to make it really a challenge put your feet up on the log you can make a great balance challenge for yourself all right taking your stick setting it on a low log standing up and trying to balance on if you find a log that's a little bit more alive than this one you can use it for pull-ups alternating sides or set it kick your feet off and you can do reverse push-ups and of course you can expand this concept with bigger steps in order to create new novel exercises like if you want to go Shaolin monk here's the thing the woods is full of sticks right it's way cheaper than a gym membership and really it's limited only by your imagination you can create many other exercises than the ones I've shown you today and whenever you're using that stick it's going to create a nice unstable environment it's really going to challenge your strengths and give you functional strength for all the things we love to do out in the world so let me know how it goes enjoy and tell me in the comments if you come up with any great new exercises you
