afternoon guys Dave can write the Pathfinder school I've had a lot of requests on YouTube since I started shooting videos again on different ways to make fire our latest Pathfinder challenge is all about starting fire I just made a video on a deer scout a little while ago and started fire with a new fire starter that I'm looking at right now and I want to show you another trick that you can use to start fire using steel wool without the 9-volt battery we're just going to use our Ferro rod and any Ferro rod will work for this whether it's a light my fire Strikeforce a grizzly fire steel it does not matter what ever one you have even though when we sell for six bucks on our website works fine for this and I'm gonna show you how to do that right now okay guys so we're not collecting a bundle of dry grass from out by the railroad tracks out here I'm doing this Scout and this will work fine I don't really need to process this too much the only thing I'm gonna do now is I'm gonna take my 10 that I carry around it's got my fire kit in it and I've got a small wad of triple off steel wool here I'm gonna pull off a piece of that oh I don't know something like this and lay it right there and then I'm gonna pull my Ferro rod out from my Strikeforce I'm not gonna use anything but that just start this fire I'll set the restless' kit aside and we'll get started okay guys so I've got my small piece of steel wool and I've got my bundle of grass all I'm gonna do is take your steel wool and kind of increase the surface area by spreading it out and that's important because that's gonna let oxygen in between the fibers or the small wires of steel wool is made of it's important that you use triple a lot steel wool for this and once I get that spread out real good I'm just gonna take this fun little grass I'm not going to process it all I'm gonna do is fold it in half push some of it down just like that

twist the bottom of it and that's going to become basically my birdnest then I'm gonna put my steel wool inside of it just like that like a little pocket twist it down just kind of hold it together for a minute and then strike my steel wool with my fire steel you can see that burning so that now becomes my ember a little excited they're still burning but not like I wanted to I'll increase the surface area a little bit more aren't and hit it again there we go there we go guys simple as that you
