morning folks

I'm Dave Canterbury with self-reliance outfitters in the pathfinder school I thought I'd come out of your day and shoot a video called my backyard and really kind of the prompting of this video is that a guy put a comment on a video I shot the other day on making a shelter system and he said I love your videos are entertaining they're informative and things like that there's pretty obvious you're shooting this stuff in your backyard and I am here's the thing my backyard it's 4,000 acres I have a hundred and eighty six acres here at the Pathfinder school and this small probably 80 acre because it's fairly close to my classroom areas and where my supplies around and things like that and then outside my property within this 4,000 acres to do our marching and things that we do out into the wilderness area to collect resources to check our physical fitness level carrying our packs to do our navigation courses for our more advanced classes our scout classes and and our pioneering classes we also use that area for trapping class and I use that area often time for videos as well but you know what it's in my backyard so let's take a cruise around

[Music]

our cameras get bumped around a little bit while driving but ordered you got to see it

open pipeline areas a gas pipeline it runs through the center basically of our property out here and we have about 80 acres on this side and about 80 acres on this side

to a hard pant road some of that road traffic once in awhile it videos that are shot over by the classroom

there's only about six 700 yards on the other side of the hill to that hard top road Sanna travel is really good in open areas drive over there in a few minutes when I turned the vehicle around to go the other way here you're gonna see the pipeline again in that open pipeline goes six miles deep into this wildlife area

we're going to go over jut into this other 80 acres for just a minute I'll show you how that looks from a wide spectrum and then we're going to come back out of pipeline and go the other direction

[Music]

okay so this area over here it's about 80 acres goes off that direction for the most part long cuts of thought there's a large beaver pond area over on this side to see in a minute this is all standing timber mostly Virginia pine

[Music]

[Music]

all right so this is kind of the back boundary line of my property it's pretty much unmarked boundaries it'll be steaks out here things like that six miles deep that way is wildlife area that my property bust straight up against

an area over here that's part of that 80 acres I'm talking about a second ago that standing timber that beaver partner [Music]

okay so this trail goes down into a bottom and butts up against the backside of the wildlife area again and there's probably I don't know 40 acres back in here a wooded area that we use that but again it's right up against the wildlife area so we're just gonna flip around right here instead of going down in there and we're gonna flip around and go down that what we call the back trail which is basically a boundary line we use in our basic navigation course to keep people boxed into an area because unlike most people's backyards in my back yard you can actually get lost [Music]

I don't know if you can see it or not but over there the trees the yellow sign says wildlife area in this area beyond this point is also part of that 4,000 acre wildlife area and this trail that we've been driving kind of goes out an angle it borders the edge of my property up to that point when we had that trail going down then it kind of my land kind of winds around and back out to that pipeline area again then across the bike line as well but this part of the trail right here this last four or five hundred yards of the trail pretty much rides right up against that wildlife buried again there's really no boundary border you walking one to the other so again

this is my backyard I can actually hear some vegans out here it sounds like somebody's got beagles on the wildlife fair your rabbit I have that

dear I'm out there I see an orange vest over there in the wildlife there's a guy out there hunting rabbits right now so what we're gonna do is we're gonna back out around here and go the other direction instead of disturbing his hunt because we would go down this trail about another 200 yards maybe it's gonna come out to a logging road or an old County Road that actually would go back up then about a half a mile to my homestead

[Music]

alright guys well that was just a quick run around kind of the outside perimeter of the Pathfinder school property and showing you what lies beyond that a little bit without driving out there because motor vehicles aren't allowed out there I have to walk when I go out to that area and with my students and things like that but so that everybody's on the same page if someone tells you Dave Canterbury shoots videos in his backyard he does all 4,186 acres of it I've seen my videos where I teach I don't see any reason to go any further than that most of the things that can be taught to someone that will help them affect their survival that will help them build a better homestead that will help them woodcraft blacksmith and do woodworking can be taught in a very simple environment and you don't need to travel 2 or 3,000 miles to get that job done especially if you already own the Pathfinder school I appreciate you guys the support

I appreciate your views I thank you for everything you do for our school our family and for our business if you'd like to come and join us out here at the Pathfinder school for training our class schedule for all of our different classes can be found at WWF reliance Outfitters comm under training thanks guys
