afternoon guys Dave Canberra the Pathfinder school

I came out to my personal space today I'm really to be honest with you not doing anything just kind of sitting around listening to things walking around seeing how many deer out here right now gun seasons on in Ohio so not real easy to find deer this time of year I thought I'd stop over here my camp real quick and sit down and have a common man lunch I kind of want to put that together and show you what I've got here I've got a to serving meal here that costs about a dollar seventy five cents for two servings two people I'm only going to eat one serving of it today so that would save me one for another day or another time or tonight or whatever but I want to show you how to make a quick hot meal that's very inexpensive you can carry this stuff with you indefinitely and use it at your leisure so stay with me for a second guys okay well I've got guys I've got a Lipton garlic butter rice and this bag of rice cost a dollar at a dollar store and there's two to three servings in here there's probably at least enough for two servings for myself for that dollar so that's 50 cents and then I've got two of these Jack Link's little chubs hickory smoked sausage in these sealed packaging that will keep forever basically for a long period of time anyway

a couple years and I'll use one of these these were 50 Cent's so a dollar basically what it's going to cost me to eat this meal today I could just fold the bag back over to use it for the next time or the next meal I want to keep it for a long time but if I fold the bag over carefully

keep it dry it'll be okay you know for a few days anyway and that'll give me a really good meal with a lot of carbohydrates in it a lot of vitamins and minerals and some fat that I'm going to need you know if I'm going to stay on the woods overnight and I need to get my energy level up and keep my metabolism working to keep my body's core temperature at the proper level these are all things that I need in my diet and this is a very cheap and simple way to make a good hot meal and that's what I'm going to have for lunch today while I'm not here tramping about and one thing with these rice mixes of stuff they've got to powdered seasoning mix mixed into it so you really want to shake that up real good before you pour it in otherwise all your seasonings going to be at the bottom I'm just going to pour about oh I don't know half the bag in there and leave the rest the next meal and I'll stir that around and let that get cooked up now one question I want to answer real fast while we're cooking this meal I had a few people ask me about making pemmican showing how to make pemmican and I think there's a lot of misunderstanding about what pemmican is because all pemmican is truly is ground-up beef jerky so if you take the jerky or any kind of jerky for that matter but if you take the jerky that we made yesterday with the venison and you put it on a flat rock and you ground it up with another Rock you'd have pemmican there's no big secret to it it's very simple to make and you can use it for a lot of things but that's how you make pemmican it's just shredded up tiny pieces of jerk meat now go ahead and take these little chubs here the one that I'm going to use for my meal today and I'll just cut it right here in the package that way it doesn't get too dirty

now that's backside of it I'm going to go and eat that now while I'm waiting put the rest of this I'm just going to thin slice right in the package and then I'm going to add it to my rice mixture while it's cooking now you can carry this plastic out of the woods that's the right thing to do but for no more plastic than what there is right here if you burn this plastic you're not going to ruin the ozone layer or anything like that like some people would have you believe I wouldn't burn tires out here by any means burning a small piece of plastic like this is not going to hurt anything and it keeps you from carrying trash out also keeps you from having things that smell like food around your camp that could draw critters that you don't want yeah that piece got a little bit too dirty

and then the other button on the backside I'll eat while I'm waiting now I've got more liquid in here than I really need with this rice mixture but I'm definitely not going to toss it out because I poured that seasoning mix in there with it out of that bag there's a lot of butter and garlic and fat and things in there that I need Plus that warm broth warm me up really nice on a cool day I'll definitely be getting rid of that I'm just going to let this simmer for a little bit work its way down usually takes about five to seven minutes at a good rolling boil this rice get didn't cooked and I'm just continually stirring it to keep it sticking to the bottom of my stainless steel skillet here or pan or you can see this is really starting to thicken up now and get done it's just awesome smelling I got to tell you guys but it really looks good almost done I'm going to give it just a couple more minutes just to thicken up a little bit more stir it all up real good here make sure I don't anything sticking to the bottom

as a meal fit for a king for a dollar I'm telling cannot beat that for a dollar you'd have to tell you has it ever since I got the first bite of this I haven't been able to put it down long enough to close out this video man it's delicious a good hot meal like this with complex carbohydrates and beef or the hickory smoked sausage in there to give you some fat and some meat protein can't beat a meal like this one meal like this a day do wonders for you in a wilderness self-reliance for survival situation and for a dollar meal can't beat the stick I'm Dave Canterbury the Pathfinder school appreciate you joining me here for this short video on cooking tips and quick treats and I'll see in the next video thank you very much for your support
