afternoon guys Dave Canterbury the Pathfinder school back out here Forge one of the things that you need a lot on homestead

its self-reliance long-term sustainability type situations or nails and back in the old days of blacksmithing the apprentices made nails that's what they did go make nails boy you got nothing to do go make nails so what we're going to do today is we're going to make nails now they make special sledging dyes called nail headers that are made for making nails and basically they look just like this they are just to die that you put the nail through and then you pound a head on the nail and you pound it back out of the die pretty simple so what you do is you just take a piece of round stock and we're going to get one going to heat it up here and you make it square so it fits down inside that sledge you leave enough room when you cut it off so that when you pound it into that swedging die hot it gives you a flat head on that nail well that's what we're going to do today stay with me guys

so the first thing we're doing here is we're drawing out our piece of ram stock to it and now determine the length of our nail as we go let's see how far it goes down inside as a square you can see that doesn't go down in there very far so we've got a ways to go to draw that out yet

[Music]

so you're not drawing you doing here it's going to determine the length of your nail

you
