morning folks I'm Dave Canterbury with self-reliance outdoors in the Pathfinder school what I'd like to do today is introduce you to a product that's been on the market for several years but I don't think it's got the attention it deserves in the self-reliance and survival and bushcraft community is called the haywire clamping and the strong hold haywire clamper is a very simple device that's used to tighten and bind things utilizing wire so whether it's a piece of wood whether it is metal whether it's plastic or rubber the haywire clamper can help you create a clamp from wire with very good holding power because of its unique design so what I'm going to do is I'm going to show you the way the kits come when you purchase them and then I'm going to show you a couple applications for the haywire clamp or on wood because I'm showing them in a wood craft capacity I'm going to show you how to last two poles together of a fire wall I'm going to show you the repair of a hammer and I'm also going to show you how to create a structural joint from two pieces of wood

okay so the run-of-the-mill basic kit comes with the haywire clamping tool it comes with a roll of wire an example of how the wire is supposed to be put on if you're going to make a double wrap and you can do this with a single or double or a hose clamp or any type of binding clamp it comes with an instruction booklet that also tells you how much wire you need to cut for the diameter of piece that you're trying to tie the wire around to create the clamp and in the example here it's showing rubber hose to some type of PVC so a connection type clamp where a hose clamp would be used whether it's your vehicle your ATV your boat or any type of wood projects around camp

this tool is ideal for that and lots of us carry wire as part of our kit it also comes with a strand of wire and I've cut lots of wire off of this for the examples that we're going to show I've used all of this wires what I've used for the examples that we're going to show today and they're still wire left so I've done several projects and still have wire so you get a pretty good amount like 25 feet of this wire in the basic kit and that's what comes in the basic kit now you also have what he calls his survival kit and it comes in a waterproof rubber container you have the tool you have the manual and you have three different sizes or diameters or gauges of wire about 25 feet of each of those types of wire and you can place those all inside this rubber container with the tool and put the lid on the container which makes it fairly waterproof these are just like a couple of cap pipe caps but now you can put this stowed away and your boat your ATV your backpack or in your camp tool box ready for use when you need it so what you can see here is another use for the haywire clamping tool I've clamped these two uprights together pinching these poles that are in this reflective wall for the fire pit down here at our camp and that's a very structural hold they're not going to come apart it's not going to rot away like cordage and if the fire gets too close to it for some reason it's not going to burn it and break away that cordage either because I used a heavy gauge wire

well folks I appreciate you joining me today for this quick video and demonstration on the stronghold haywire clamper I think that this device has merit especially around a homestead or permanent camp but also in any type of recreational vehicle as we spoke to before and we fixed a broken hammer with it and then we pounded nails we made a structural corner joint with it we made a solid wrap around two upright posts to hold a firewall together around our fire pit down or camp and then we also put this hog spearhead that's made out of a horse hoof rasp into a piece of hard wood to make a viable spear or hunting so there are lots and lots of applications for this haywire clamper it's just a matter of your imagination
