now we want to take a look at our growing line what I'm looking at when I look at this thing is a I'm looking to see if my bid is straight if I've got a straight line there if I've got curvature to it and that looks pretty good then I'm looking at the evenness of the grind here and to me this needs to come up a little bit higher on that side to match that and this needs to come up a little bit higher to match that so where I'm at is this side needs a little more work higher up and then I should be good okay so now that we have our initial growing and we've got our file work on the top done now all we're going to do is just initially polish it and this is just this is got some grit to it so it's going to help us with the grind but it's not our final grind or final sharpen it's just a matter of cleaning this thing up a little bit before we heat treated

let's go underneath that grinder then if it grabs you for some reason or grabbed your material for some reason it's gonna shoot it away from you out in the backside not at you out front so give you some idea of what your fireworks and will look like in the end - you get the final Bob who were out so far on now now we're getting a heat treat this axe which means we're going to fire up hurt us again and put it in there and get it to non-magnetic now is the time we want to look this thing over really really good make sure all of our grind lines are even make sure everything is exactly where we want it because after this everything is just final sharpening and getting it ready if you pass it on to a handle you're not going to be able to do any work to this thing after the fact so if you want any fine polishing done of this you might want to get any lines or anything out of there that you want out I want it left rough because I want to look handmade I even want this stuff left a little bit rough that doesn't bother me at all that that's in there it makes it look more handmade that way so let's get ready to put this thing in heat recovered

all right so here's our accent it's been initially heat-treated now we've got to put it in the oven for a couple hours and temperate and then we can finish it just want to give you guys a look at it coming out of heat treat all right so we pulled our ax head out of heat treat temper now so it's out of the oven cooled down and now we're going to start to buff it we've got two different buffing wheels on this six inch buffer and one of them is a finer grit on this side and one of them is a more coarse grit on this side now you want to be careful when you're buffing these heads because you can get them hot again what you don't want to do and discolor them so you keep a bucket of water near you because you can dip it in the water if it gets hot okay you should be to the point when you get done with this buffing that you've got a pretty sharp edge already that thing oughta cut a nail across the length of the blade if it's not doing that and you're not doing something right because when you stone put a stone on this thing it should be nothing but a final hone everything else on this dude should be razor sharp everything should be nice and cleaned up and ready to go now this kit comes with a handle that's pre-cut and I've done just a little bit of work to it to get it sized up exactly the way I want so that it fits in there fairly snug and then I'm just gonna set it down here on the bench drive it home just like that pretty good come in here with a sharp knife and trim off any excess we've got right there and that thing is in pretty good shape now well that's coming here with a good sharp knife and trim off anything excess I'm ready outside it's a good fit up no need to even put a wedge in that right now well let's let that handle swell up in oil and we shouldn't have to put a wedge in it and if we do later that's fine but I don't think we're gonna have to the other actors I have like the spell attacks don't have a wedge in them at all the handle put up is so good then and we don't have to worry about it turned out pretty good now we just need to sharpen it up all right so we have oiled up our axe here looking pretty good and we're just going to come in here with a fine grit puck touch up our final edge

pucks are meant to to use a circular motion like this don't know your acts you should get us to a razor-sharp edge pretty fast
