I'm not right there give me a little bit of a fit right there my handle area will get passed out here a second will be all right

come around the other side to see what looks like hopefully it's not gonna affect the integrity that's above any see it right there we're okay yeah I think it's gonna be okay

shouldn't be a big deal [Applause]

[Applause]

now at this point I've got to stay pretty well shaped out as far as initial shaping goes of the state that I want it's a lot way too thick right now in a lot of areas obviously we got a lot of work to do but you can see this hardwood surrounded by the fat wood here and we're gonna keep that because it'll make a stronger bow for sort of bows this is and generally the shorter your bow is the wider your limbs need to be the longer your bow is the skinnier your limbs can be and you can get away with that so we're gonna leave these limbs pretty wide too on the fades which is the area where it dips down here on the sides for the limbs where it bends but if I was gonna cure this state or if I was gonna save this stay for another use I would take it just like it is right now instead of the corner of my house or whatever and let it dry and cure at this stage right here but because we're trying to make a bow out of green wood and make a quick survival type bow we're gonna keep working this down but I want to show you this stage because it's important if you're gonna cure above and save it for later for you know next season or in the summer you cut it down into winter set it in somewhere where it's going to be fairly dry and not too humid and air out let it cure over the winter and then in the summertime you start working on the boat okay once I get these fades cut in you're like I want them next thing I'm going to do is I'm going to start taking some small shavings and just rounding that off a little bit so that I get instead of a square edge I've got a round edge that's going to take meat off the bow and it will decrease draw a weight in the end depending on how you decide to stop a bow you decide to make but right now all I'm trying to do is round all these hard edges off and then I'm gonna have to go through and start taking more meat off these limbs to get a floor tailored and we'll talk about that in the next segment of survival bow making for right now all we're trying to do is prep our staff or stave excuse me right now we're trying to do is prep our stave for final work and we can still do all this with our axe pretty easy you just now have to take our time and choke up on the axe and just do everything in a very controlled fashion because at this point if we get too deep with our axe we can call ourself a problem later so now we just have to start being real careful and control with everything we do [Applause]

I'm just taking small controlled shavings off of here now kind of thin these limbs down to get this the floor tiller we'll talk about that in a minute I get this thin down sir

[Applause]

okay I want to kind of show you like and what we're after here or at least a little bit about what we're after I've been just taking control strokes off the inside this to the belly of this above and checking the floor tiller as I go the floor tiller means I put my hand in the middle of the bow and I push down to see how the limb is gonna Bend and if I've got a fairly even Bend I'm not sure I don't have the hinge right here it's not bending too bad and putting a lot of force on it's getting Bend like that I need to take just a little bit more off of right here before I start working on the other limb but that's what you call floor tillering the bow and once you get that blue bow floor tiller dad you can start working on the final shaping of the bow all right guys that story ended up at today I'm gonna show you a better profile on tiller on both limbs so this is just a second remember all we've used to make this bow so far as our axe all right guys you can see where we're at right now with this bow and I want to show you the tiller on this thing right now as far as floor tiller goes you can see how that limb bends you can see how that wind bends this one's flexing a little bit more right now in one spot then this one is I'm kind of worried about that because I haven't done this limp right in the middle of it right here and I'm afraid and if I try to smooth that down as far as that one is right there where that knots out I'm gonna break out limb but we'll see it's all trial and error and you got to do what you got to do what I do is I'll put the boat up and I'll push both of them I'll show you that back camera up here a little bit I try to do is I try to put that bow down and push on the handle area evenly and look at tiller let's see how the limbs are bending and I've got one looks like it might be a hinge right here I can take care of that if I take a little more off of this problem but this one right here has got me worried cuz it's real stiff like that not that it'll probably it'd still be enough a shootable bow I could probably string that thing up right now shoot it but we got a lot more work to do in this bow forward [Applause]
