even good

back in the woods morning guys Dave camera the path on our school out here post-sandy still blowing really hard out here I'm sure there's a lot of weight in the camera so I'm gonna try to keep the audio to a minimum and cover that up with music

five minute fire in incoming weather that's what ride today so stay with me you see the slider is gonna be pretty much useless soaking wet out here I'm cold enough that my Dax tears get flame up long enough just to light this candle up and then protect the candle that's what I'm really after now I going to keep this candle down here we're protected we get some of these finer shavings of fat will it on fire

getting that flame is a key element to this whole thing because all the tinder around here is wet so if something happened we didn't have a chance to collect a lot of stuff you got to be quick about this I've got a little bit of that one in here and that's exactly you know that's an emergency situation that's exactly where I'm at right now with this fire this thing needs to happen so it needs to happen quick we talked about the five minute fire a lot in the Pathfinder system and this is why we talk about it put that candle out now because I've got fatwood lit up and I've got a few pieces of that that's part of that possum mentality we've talked about so many times in the past that fat was going to burn long and hot so my biggest ally right now is getting this really hot flame going so I can get some kindling on top of it put a piece of tree fungus in here keep that colon up - in case I need it emergency measures okay trying to go is wood is dead hanging around here these trees still going to be pretty damp with the fat would it'll help it now I need some small stuff on top it out the fuel anything I can find up in the tree first thing dad really don't want green I want dad pine is always going to be the king out here so anytime I can find pond I'm getting it on there good stuff not quite good stuff back in my faculty dry just quick as I can move it out back to my fire now I've got time to work on this fire

and once these flames get above the fuel I'll add more fuel now just going to let this fire grow and go collect more stuff that wind is going to help this feed it oxygen it's cold it's wet not very good weather for a fire guys the kind of weather you got to test yourself in to make sure that you can make fire under all conditions even emergencies where you're not really prepped that's what I wanted to do is make sure I really wasn't prepped

I had my small bag of a tinder and my small bag with a little bit of fatwood in it other than that I'm collecting on the fly I had to get this flame started right now I'll feed it as I go I'm surrounded by woods here it's not hard to go run and get kindling as long as I've got that sure fire going in the first five minutes sure fire means I can walk away from it it's not going to go out

you
