I'm with a pathfinder school back in our segment today tips and tricks I want to talk to you guys a little bit about trapping today we've had quite a few video series on trapping from primitive to modern methods we've talked about trapping percentages as far as being a low percentage high percentage traffic techniques things like that I want to show you a couple items that I've put in my kit here that I think will increase your chances of trapping animals so that you have this and you have something like a slingshot or a blowgun or whatever it is you choose to carry in the woods with you you're just increasing your chances of getting game and I'm going to show you something that works really good today there's just a couple small items I carry as a trap and kit with me and it almost guarantees you game every time if you're in the right location and we're going to go over that in just a second because they only cost about a dollar fifty nine so hang tight okay guys back to our modular system here I've got the butt pack on here this is a two-part trapping system alright part a is right here inside the butt pack itself so if I take the butt pack off the frame I've always got this in there the pocket fishing kit is in there as well what this is this is a small electrical tape container you can get these anywhere that you buy electrical tape at a hardware store they come with colored electrical tape inside them I use that stuff for a lot of things and I use the container to carry a lot of things into as well now all I did was taped around this thing with a OD colored duct tape just to keep it shut alright I'm going to go ahead and take a duct tape off here real quick I'm going to show you there's a couple items in here now we have talked many times about snare wire I've showed you the number three and four picture wire that we carry on our website what I normally will do with this is I will take that snare wire and break it down instead of carrying it by the roll I will make it into ready-made snares all right inside this container are fifteen snares that average two foot long give or take an inch two foot of snare wire that you can connect to parachute cord if you need to or you can tie straight off to a tie off branch or whatever to catch game with the middle of that I just have a small cake of beeswax the reason that is in there is because in the wintertime if you wax this wire it keeps it from freezing up and it will help it operate smoothly in the winter time so I try to keep a bundle that wax in there in my trapping kit now there's a lot of uses for that beeswax besides that but it's good if you have it in your trap and kit you can use it for other things too just like the signal mirror that's kept in my last ditch kit I can use that signal mirror for personal hygiene so a lot of things are multi-purpose that you carry but you carry them or you need them the most I'm going to need to swatch the most with my trapping stuff so that's where it's at now component number two to this and this is the part I want to show you that was most exciting for me to show you today on the back of this Alice frame there is a hole or I should say a shelf back here kind of where the V bars come in where the waist strap is alright and that allows you to stash some things back in the back back there that's where I've got this tube strapped down to that's got my arrows in it it also has one pouch inside there and it's just Molly strapped to this frame and sitting on that V in there so it doesn't go anywhere doesn't affect anything that's not in my way at all when I'm wearing the pack I'm going to take that off there and show you what's inside okay guys this is just a regular Molly magazine pouch just like we saw on our website for probably five or six bucks I can't wear what we sell them for now but you can get these army surplus stores it's a Gentoo Molly 30 round magazine pouch it just so happens that it perfectly fits to full size if I can get them out of here rat traps okay there are two of them in here

back-to-back I've drilled holes in the end of these to put tie-off cord - so nothing runs off with my traps they don't weigh very much in this pouch and they're out of the way in that pack frame you don't even notice they're there so let's talk about high percentage trapping techniques okay a rat trap is a high percentage trapping technique as high percentage as or more so even though than leg old traps and things like that and Conibear traps that you use

for trap and game prefer and we've went over those in other videos before the difference with these is these are made mainly you would use these mainly for small game they're made to catch rats okay ground squirrels things like that even small squirrels even small opossums I've seen kill with these but small ground squirrels and things like that any area that you're in that has a lot of chipmunks and things like that in it these things are very very high percentage trapping okay if they'll kill a rat don't kill a chipmunk and they will kill a ground squirrel so all you have to have for this is bait anything that you've got food-wise out in the bush is bait for this thing now what you bait it with depends on what you catch sometimes you know if you put fish and stuff like that in here you're more likely to catch opossum than anything else but they're one of the nine sources of edible meats and they're very prevalent in North American you can't kill one with this now the reason we've got a hole drilled in it here is so we can put some paracord through here and tie this thing off because when you catch something in this that's bigger than it's supposed to catch you don't want it running off with this trap so if you smack something in here it doesn't get killed instantaneously like it you know a 3/4 pound opossum gets in here or something it doesn't get killed right away by this thing snapping down around his neck you want to make sure you don't run off with your trap and die somewhere so you tie this thing off every time that way you know it's going to be there when you come back I've got two of these in this pouch this is just about if I put these out in the right spot you know around some log jams things like that well ground squirrels are bound to be hanging out this is probably 90% there's going to be something one of these two traps so if I have to have to have to eat and I'm looking for meat sources this is my number one best option number one best option right here as far as trapping goes over and above snares and everything else

like I said snares are good but snares are a low-percentage trapping technique in that it takes a great many of them to be assured of catching something these traps these mouse traps and rat traps are not like that if you set this thing out and anything gets around it to eat you're going to kill it alright is a killing trap and it is a very very effective killing trap like I said you can put two of these in one of these ammo pouches and you've got them with you all the time I've got that thing just strapped to the back of my Alice pack frame inside that pocket by these Molly straps they don't weigh a whole lot I don't even notice that they're there but I've always got them if I need them in case of emergency or if I'm your stop practicing my skills and I want to verify that these things work

I might send a couple these up before I go to bed at night get up the next morning and I got a nice hot breakfast okay guys so here it is tucked right back in that frame where it came from out of the way behind the kidney pad where I don't even know it's there like I said these things are about a buck fifty nine or two bucks at the most sometimes you can bind them packages it to for like three bucks at a dollar store but if you go to buy one ten Conibear you're talking about five to eight bucks per trap and they weigh twice as much as one of these does and these things are effective effective killing machines guys do not underestimate something like this and for all you guys who are looking for the common man cheap kind of stuff and the kids out there looking to put together a kit this is a very inexpensive way to add traps to your kit that are almost a no-brainer to catch animals with well I'm Dave can breath winter south there's our tree home of the Pathfinder school I hope you've enjoyed this short segment on trapping and trapping with rat traps common man traps as I like to call but I appreciate your views I appreciate your support I appreciate everything and I hope that you guys enjoy the videos from the people that I'm going to invite to post videos on my site there's going to be a couple other guys I'm going to talk to out west I'd like to make sure that we have a really well-rounded site so as you guys only have one place you have to go to find good videos whether it be desert survival or woodland survival I'm also going to try to get somebody up from the Canadian area to do some stuff for boreal forests and that way I've got a real good rounded site and four or five different guys posting videos on there that I trust to make good videos that are informative and will steer you in the right direction and I'll still be making videos right up to the day that something happens where I've got to be taken away for a little while to do some other things and we'll discuss that later on you know a lot of you guys are already on the right track what's happening but I can't divulge anything at this time so we'll get to it when get to it till then we just all have to be patient cluding myself so thank you very much - have a good day
