Marie's hair pomade and this is already in a ten there's some room in there on top of that pomade we could put some cotton balls this might be very very good now in general two bucks take it okay guys we got a trooper quarter pound cam packs 1199 tractor supply pretty nice I think we'll have to take this with looks like they've got some longer ones here to $16.99 you can get the two and a quarter pound boys axe will take this camp axe with us for that for us give ourselves a little upgrade for five more dollars okay guys we got some sixteenth inch galvanized wire rope here and ninety-six pound load limit and these keepers right here are fifty nine cents so we can make snares for a dollar piece and they'll be heavy dude you know ninety-six pound load limit this is really lightweight stuff use this for everything up to kyoto it's easy enough probably 96 pounds so we're going to get eight or ten feet of this and make us let's see we'll get enough to make bigger two-foot person air will get enough to make twelve snare so we get twenty four feet of this at twenty nine cents so about six bucks and then another twelve bucks so it's going to cost eighteen bucks to make a full set of snares we can put in our pack that'll keep us in meat okay we'll let that primer coat dry and we'll come back and put another coat on her okay we got two coats on that stuff now this black paint that's probably enough to get us started keep anything from sticking to it now we're gonna do is get this stuff in a fire and get it seasoned and primed us-born ten bucks hmm off-brand 399 that's what we want boys grab that okay we're in Lowe's here I was looking for a file keeping this package to keep my act sharp with and I found this four in one tool right here and I think we're going to take this with us because you can do a whole lot with one of these more than just sharpen your axe for the same price six bucks we'll take it afternoon I'm Dave Canterbury with Pathfinder school run our discount push craft kit out here today we did a few things today we picked up a couple of items we scrounged a couple things from around the house we actually upgraded a couple of items a little bit because it only cost us like $10 to upgrade to items that were quite a bit better than what we had just like if you had to wait till the next pay day or if you had to wait till the next time you got your allowance your yard mowing money or whatever you can always upgrade your kit as you go we're going to talk about that a little bit today as well and I'm also going to show you how to make a real handy portable takedown saw for less than $10 so stay with me we're get our fire started with we've gotten our discount kit here real quick and we'll be right with you okay we're starting out with pretty minimum kit here like I said we don't have a whole lot we know that let's just kind of dig this out a small area of a fire pit here not real windy or anything day where it's going to get too bad I just want to make sure that the stuff we've gotten this kit is actually capable for sure of starting what I would call surefire so what I've done here and I got a feeling most killings gonna be wet so let me go inside the shelter here get some dry killing cuz it's been raining for a couple of days out here but I've got some dry stuff inside here no whole lot but a little it'll work for right now that's for sure okay now went out today you picked up the can of this Murray's pomade figuring it's going to be about the same thing as the beeswax wasn't it's in the middle ten so we can make char cloth in this later and all I did was take up I put some tape around this thing just some electrical tape I picked up a roll of electrical tape today for a dollar and the electrical tape is just to make it pretty much waterproof is the only thing that's there for so I can seal it now there was some space between the actual pomade at the top and I just stuffed that full of cotton balls so what I would do is get down here to the bottom where there's cotton balls I've got that pomade in them and just grab a couple saturated pieces of that out of there lay that my fire pit for the moment and jam that whole thing back in my can close it up now I'll retake that before I put it back in the pack you know firepit set up here like we want get some small pieces of kindling that might be halfway pretty much dry here that we can use get this fire started with real fast hopefully

okay here we got our $1 cigarette lighter get you a cotton ball on fire gets it

small pieces of kindling in here cross stick and here's a little bit closer that cotton ball where we can get that wood just a little bit closer to fine there

and we'll just give her time and let it breathe rise up through there if we can't get a fire going with this a few minutes here

I'm going to say we definitely start a fire with our little fire kit we definitely got pretty sure fires pretty wet right now out here so we're ready to go on to the next step and have a look at what we got in our kit today now the other thing the other thing I want to accomplish while I'm out here today is I want to go ahead and get this stainless steel bowls stuff that we painted fired and cured and see how that works out as well alright so let's look at some of the modifications that we made to our kit and what they cost and why we did it now yesterday if you'll remember right we had this five dollar racks pretty good axe not bad it's not a piece of junk by any means but today I saw this this is a trooper axe

it's a Hickory handle made in Mexico the heads made in Mexico has an American hickory handle on it it's supposed to be high carbon steel it is a pound and a half head and it costs $11 at Tractor Supply eleven dollars so for six dollars more that's quite an upgrade from you know an axe like this to a good wood handle camp axe so I picked that up today so that would have increased the cost of our kit by five dollars now I got to thinking about the whole knife situation and looking at things in you know on our website we have the more sl2 for $16.50

we spent $6.99 on a folding knife yesterday so for about nine dollars we could upgrade to a very very good knife and if we add the six to that for $15 we upgrade this kit to the 65 dollar mark but now we have a very very good knife and axe that we can rely on okay so setting the knife in the axe aside for a minute and understanding what we did and why we did that the next thing we did was we scrounged a few more things up like I said I went and got this Paul made today I got the cotton balls right out of the wife's makeup cabinet so two bucks nice watertight fire kit all I needs a lighter I'm in pretty good shape to make char tending that later when I scrape up the money to buy a domain easia man flint for 8 or 9 bucks I'm good to go I went back in army surplus today I talked to the guy who owned it and he gave me these two u.s. utensils he gave me both of them for 50 cents apiece so I went and picked those up because I can use this this spoon is real heavy-duty steel and I can dig with this thing so it gives me a little bit more of an option plus I have metal utensils now instead of pieces of wood that are going to absorb bacteria things and I can just wrap it up with this piece of rope and and we'll make noise in my pack because it won't rattle around so that was a basically an even swap a dollar for a dollar roll of orange electrical tape one dollar at Lowe's a mirror actually still a little bit what where I washed it off this was laying in the bottom of a cabinet my wife's makeup stuff it says Conair right on it and it's some kind of a tribal mirror it's made to stand stand up but it could be used for a signal mirror very easy it could also be used to look at your face you know if you got something wrong with you you had it see if you cut yourself bad or anything like that and it's got a plastic cover over top of it hell if you've got a curling iron burn on it right there so I know she's had it for quite a while so it must be pretty strong I'm sure if your wife's anything like mine she dropped stuff like that all the time and it's none the worse for wear now the next thing I picked up while I was at Lowe's I picked up this for in one file I wanted to make sure that we had a fine file to sharpen our axe blade within the field I wouldn't find something fairly cheap the cheapest file I could find new was about $6 I know I could find one at flea market this weekend cheaper than that but I wanted to get this kit together for you guys and I saw this four in one file when it has it has two rasps on it as well as a fine and a medium file so this is a good multi-purpose tool and it cost six dollars but now I can use this for wood carving tasks like making bows and things of that nature making bowls spoons and all of that as well as if the purpose that I bought it for is for sharpening my tools so that's a very good multi-purpose tool doesn't weigh very much and I can throw that in my pack that was six dollars so now we're up to 65 sixty six dollars basically sixty seven dollars I'm sorry you're spending our flashlight instead they're folding knife I did buy a three dollar tube of triple antibiotic ointment today an off-brand to use for first aid because I have tape I have usually a bandana on me I don't have that in the pack right now but I should have I always have a bandana on me and if I took my antibiotic ointment I've got my first aid pretty well taken care of so those are the additions that I made to the kit today we still don't have a compass we'll have to look for a compass that I think is worth having as cheap I have yet to see one but we'll find one eventually I'm sure for the ten dollar mark and that'll be okay but for right now our kits sitting at that price the other two things that I had today we're a good saw that we can use to break down and take with us and some snares and we're going to talk about the snares right now okay so let's have a talk real quick about securing meat sources now we didn't have anything in our kid at all for that and that's part of what we need so I'm going to break for a minute from the kit to show you what I did for snares to add to this kit now this was a $15 add-on okay but I can make 12 snares with this 15 dollars that will last virtually forever and have very very high breaking strength and not much weight to carry so what I did was and I showed this one a width truck supply

I bought some grated wire here and I showed that when I was there I also bought some locking devices that I showed you while I was there they're just a small double nutted u-bolt lock okay for your wire and then I had my son take some regular pennies and drill two holes in them at 180 degrees so now what we've done is I went home and I cut two feet of this wire and what I did was I put I bent one piece of the wire over and put it through my u-bolt and tighten that down tight and just tape the tape around it to keep the fray any ends from getting frayed or may keep me from poking my fingers and then I had the penny that I bent in half with my pliers I just bent in half I put in on the loop before I put it through the u-bolt and what that gives me is that gives me a locking snare so that when that snare hangs up the animal can't undo it because it actually works against itself as a lock and it will pull up and Bend that wire just like that keep the animal from getting out very similar to what critter showed you in the videos he was doing so now we have a two-foot snare here and I just take the other end up as well keep from getting poked I have a permanent two foot snare here with 97 pound capacity and if I wanted to put a deer lock on here to make sure a deer couldn't get caught in this I could just put another piece of tape on here temporarily and that would do that but I can use these snares for a lot of game and like I said we've talked about this in other videos you know I don't think 10 feet of snare wire is a survival kit I just don't believe that in my heart I've done trials I've done tests I've trapped rabbits with snares and it takes you know at least 10 snares to guarantee you're gonna have any kind of success so I've got enough material here to make ten snares just like this for 15 bucks and I'm going to add that to my kit and the next thing I'm going to try to do probably will be add a pocket fishing kit for securing meat sources and sometimes they cheap for our gig device and we'll talk about that tomorrow okay I'm Dave Canterbury with Pathfinder school and the thing I want to tell you guys real quick one of the great things about this thin stainless steel like we're using with our vice grips here is I've only had this off the fire for probably two minutes and it's stone cold so that thin stainless steel works really good

those vice grips make a really really good handle for that that just works that's dandy I mean that works out great I may put that in part of my permanent kit it works out so well tell you truth but what I want to talk you guys about real quickly into this video before we go to the buck saw video was understand that I'm shooting these videos consecutively trying to knock some videos out for you guys in pretty quick fashion before I have to stop shooting videos and so to that end you know don't think about these upgrades that I'm making to this kit that's something that you would be doing every other day like I am you know yesterday we bought $50 worth of stuff and that's what that was our kit we're going to start out with today we spent another 30 to upgrade our kit if you include the buck saw which we'll talk about the next video but maybe for you that's the next week maybe for you that's two weeks from now maybe for you that's the next month doesn't matter you upgrade your kit as you go all I'm trying to do is I'm trying to show you small upgrades you can make it a time to really better your kit in quick fashion as your funds become available so with all that said I really appreciate your views I appreciate your support and I'm Dave Canterbury and I thank you very very much
