morning guys I'm Dave Canterbury with self-reliance Outfitters in the Pathfinder school and what I'd like to discuss with you this morning is some new american-made panics that I have personally designed that we're having manufactured here in the US and what I've tried to do is you know there's a lot of hammocks on the market today so I'm not trying to price beat anybody on hammocks the retail price of these hammocks is right in line with the normal hammock out there today these are made from a really nice rip stop material and they're very lightweight they are a double wide hammock that come with the tree straps but these were designed by me and the patterns were picked out for these hammocks by me so that they would be a non-conventional camo pattern that is actually camouflaged want to set up in the woods and one of them is a snakeskin pattern and the other one is an old world map and then we also have one that I don't have with me today that's OD green and these will be going up for sale on our website probably this weekend so what I thought I'd do is I would just walk through setting one of these up really fast show you what both of them look like when they're strung out and someone's laying in them so that you can get a better feel for how big they are and what they look like and then we'll just go from there stay with me guys so basically it's a very simple setup like I said you've got a loop on one end of the strap you can come around the tree at about eye level or right about eye levels where I like to start and really that distance depends on how far the trees are apart the further the trees are apart higher your hang is going to have to be to achieve that maximum or optimal hanging angle so you've got this and then all you have to do is come up and grab the end of your hammock and I've got a rope tied to this one so that you could put a taut line on there if you want it to that doesn't come with it I just tied that on there when I was demoing this thing in our grand opening and then you pull the strap through it's got a turnbuckle there and then you adjust it from there so now we'll go to the other tree and do the same thing once I've got my straps adjust it to the location that I want to get that hang angle I'm looking for

I usually just come up here and put a half-inch in there a slippery hitch half inch

to just lock it in place so it can't slide through the buckle and it's very easy to get undone when the time comes and that works out about the best for me so again just take a half hitch and it really quick a slippery hitch and you're done do that on both ends of the handle okay now like I said I've got a piece of paracord on here and you can take this piece of paracord and run it to both ends of your hammock once you get it where you want it and you can tighten that up and then what you will have is you'll have a static Ridge line there that you'll pull taut with both of your hang straps and that will give you that same hang angle every time this is just an option you don't have to do this and the hammock doesn't come with this but it can be done very easily with a simple piece of paracord okay hang my hammock I like to hang them out of height so that when I sit in the hammock itself I'm pretty much at ground level just like this so that my feet are touching the ground that I'm like sitting in a chair that's the optimal height for me for a hammock some people like to hang them higher some people like to hang them lower this is the height I like real simple at that point you get in this dude you can easily side lay in this hammock if you want to like I said it's a double wide hammock so it's easy enough to stretch out in if you can do the straight flat leg if you choose as well it's very versatile as far as that goes but this pattern gives it a real good camouflaged look kind of a vintage look with that old world map on there and that's kind of what I was going for with this design of an old world map was to get something that was fairly camouflaged and at the same time be something cooler than just a camouflage pattern I wanted to try to give you a close-up of this fabric so that you can see what it looks like obviously you can see it's printed on this side and if you look close you can see the hashes in there of this kind of like ripstop type material but it and I'm not sure it's exactly a rip stop material but it's got that same cross in it of a rip stop material but it's very very strong I actually saw a guy jump into one of these hammocks at one of our events and there was none the worse for wear so that convinced me that this company could make the hammock that I wanted to be able to use all the time in the woods so I wanted to show you that fabric up close and they are just a regular white on the inside you can kind of see the pattern through that side and then the outside is the full powder of the color which makes it advantageous because that white makes it very cool for a summer hang now in a winter hang obviously you're gonna want some type of an under quilt under this as well pretty simple pack away the bag with the US flag on it there is absolutely attached to the hammock so all you have to do is basically stuff to stuff it from the middle to the inside just like this

like I said I've got that piece of rope a piece of paracord on there as well it doesn't necessarily have to be on there but I use it when I'm doing demos and things like that wrap it up and shove it down inside there once you get that stuffed in there you'll still have ample room in there for your tree straps to go right in the top so they're readily accessible to you the next time you want to hang the hammock and there we go go ahead and show you this snakeskin pattern while we we're setting up the hammocks just so you can see it again white on the inside once you lay down in this thing snake skins on the outside and again you know this is a very good camouflage pattern that's not really camouflage and that's what I like about it easy side lay very very comfortable hammock and what I really like the most about these hammocks is they're a great scouting type hammock you can throw this thing in your pack as a piece of your emergency gear to get you off the ground without adding a lot of weight to your pack so if you've got some type of emergency shelter system in your pack and you want to throw one of these hammocks in there it's a very lightweight and you can do that and I'll try to give you the weight of this hammock at the end of this video but the strength of this hammock or the weight limit I would say I believe it's 350 pounds as far as they're documented weight limit this hammock so it can handle big fellows as well and it's plenty long as you can see when I lay in it there's plenty of room at the top and the bottom of this hammock I can stretch my arm all the way out and my leg is probably a foot and a half from the other end of the hammock I'm pretty sure it's an 11 foot long hammock so you've got plenty of room in here if you're a bigger guy hey guys so here's our hammock on a scale 1.35 pounds so 19 ounces 19.5

else's is with dynamic ways and that is the snakes are the map camouflage I assume that the snakeskin is gonna win pretty close to the same one pound two point five so eighteen point five ounces on that one pretty close negligible difference there you're looking at about 19 ounces per hammock alright guys well that's just been a quick look at the new Pathfinder hammocks and again I've only got two of the three initial models here one in snakeskin and one is old world map we also have an OD green one as well again us made hammocks so you're buying a hammock that's made right here in the United States by American workers I appreciate your views I appreciate your support I thank you for everything you do for school for a family for business all of our sponsor instructors affiliates and Friends and I'll be back with another video as soon as I can thanks guys
