morning folks I'm Dave Canterbury with self-reliance outfitters in the pathfinder school today we're gonna do a video that's a little bit different than my norm I have done some gun videos in the past but I haven't done anything recently but recently I've started to work with a couple gun manufacturers and so I'm gonna do a few more videos on guns and modifications and things like that as time goes on bear with me on that one of the companies that I have been speaking to you for about the last year is a company called TPS arms and TPS Arms is an American company and they are now creating the m6 takedown rifle exact specifications basically of the m6 Scout I'm sure that all of you recognize the m6 Scout made by Springfield and also made in the Czech Republic at one time for part of its existence which stopped being manufactured in 1980s and the price of these old Springfield m6 Scouts is skyrocketing everywhere gun broker calm wherever you choose to go buy one even if you buy one in a gun show the prices are astronomical they're 22 long-rifle over 410 you can look at some of my older videos to get better specs on that rifle but TPS Arms sent me a brand new m6 takedown for me to look at and go through and kind of compare to the old m6 Scout we've spoken again like I said for about a year about this rifle is very very excited to see it come to fruition you cannot buy this rifle anywhere right now except through TPS arms as far as I know but you can go to any FFL dealer that you know and have them order it for you through TPS arms and haven't delivered so what I thought I'd do today is this thing is brand new in the box I've never even opened it so we're going to open it up today go through it and compare it to the features of the original Springfield m6 Scout and kind of look at that and see if it is actually fairly much an exact duplicate with some modern upgrades it does have some modern upgrades to it we'll talk about those as well stay with me okay guys I want to get you up close and personal with I'm not a really big fan of unboxing videos honestly but the fact that I've used an m6 Scout for so many years and knowing the guy at TPS arms and talking to him for the last year I know that this has been produced to be almost exactly like the m6 Scot with modern improvements so I'm not gunshot if you will about doing an unboxing video on this one this one is 22 long-rifle over 410 it also comes in 22 warmer over 410 and 17 HMR over 410 excuse me I think about the understand so you can buy it in 22 won more 22 long-rifle or 17 HMR right now over 410 it comes with the manual also one of the things that you notice right off the bat bag didn't open up very well there there is a choke and choke tube wrench inside this package different than the original m6 the original m6 Scout had a fixed choke alright get this paperwork out of the way pull these ports out in the bag here get the box out of the way look at this really really excited about this okay so let's take the barrel out first and look at the barrel okay at first glance looking at this barrel it is very much a duplicate of the EM sick the site looks exactly the same as the old m6 it has a lug for a sling the barrel foot the same the site flips up and down from peep sight to V site for shotgun or for rifle it has the same locking mechanism on the top that the original m6 does for break down it has a pin here too typical of like an AR style gun that also pulls out to allow you to break it down completely and it has pretty much the same ejection mechanism or extraction mechanism for the round that the m6 had with a little bit of a monic ation of wrap around instead of just a single piece there with a gap in there you could get junk into this one's actually covered up so you're not going to get junk down inside that mechanism so I would say that in itself is an improvement not that you would get a lot of junk in there but when you open it up you do have the opportunity to get water and dirt inside there other than that I would say that this looks exactly like the m6 so far so good okay let's take a look at this lower and I can already tell when I pick it up that it is a little bit thicker in dimension than the original stock was on the m6 and so that means it's going to be more comfortable looking at it just from an outside perspective starting at the front here it looks very very similar all these lugs and all of these things in a trigger guard all look very similar to original m6 it's not exactly the same one thing with this that I noticed is with the original m6 and they've they've made up for this a different way but what you have with this is you have it the option to pull this hammer to the top or push it to the bottom to fire the two different barrels and on the original m6 it actually had a center position that you could turn a lock into so it wouldn't go up or down and I think that was pretty much the original safety idea for this firearm because it didn't have an external safety now on the new one what you have is you have the same up/down positioning for barrel selection but you do not have you have a middle position but it won't lock into that middle position so it could still be bumped into position to fire but what you do have is you have an external safety here that was not on the original m6 going down from there your paddle trigger is the same style trigger that was on the original m6 and your guard is the same and the guard has a pin here

so that you can release it and take it completely off you want to unpin it here the original m6 had the same situation except it was pressure fit in and you would pop it out so it was like a spring-loaded guard where this one's actually pitting in place I would consider that an improvement now the ammo door or the magazine door on the original how to push button here on the side that opened up a top cover that was made out of metal and you had a magazine here it would hold extra ammunition for the gun and you had about 15 rounds well maybe not even 15 to all the 15 rounds without counting them of 22 long-rifle

4 4 10 nothing can be interchanged or changed here it is what it is you were stuck with that the new edition has the door release on the top of a metal door and when you open it up it actually has interchangeable magazine carriers here that will hold 22 and holds more for tens one two three four five six four tens instead of four holds the same amount of 22s and these can be changed out to double up the 410 or double up the 22 capacity depending on how you plan on using the gun it also has a little bit of extra space here in the front of the magazine where you can probably put some kind of a cleaning jag or something like that if you want to this one has very little space in the front of it here that kind of fell through because there was no insert in there whereas this one has an insert completely inside there you have a compartment there you could actually store something in if you chose to some type of survival item may be an emergency tender something like that if you wanted to and then the door snaps down on top but the stock being wider makes it much more comfortable I feel without even shooting it yet it's going to be much more comfortable to get your shoulder and feel like more of a substantial gun than something like a survival tool and I think there's a difference in the way those things feel and that width it's going to make a little bit of difference there I think in the way that thing feels up against your shoulder so there's quite a few improvements to this lower end as well from the safety itself to the door release to the magazine capacity for holding ammunition as well as some storage here I think there's a lot of improvement there it's got some knurling here on the back of it the original kind of had a waffling on it as well so there's no difference there you pretty much have the same thing so looking at this at face value without even shooting it just looking at the way it goes together and again it just has a pin here that you slide up and I get the thing lined up from on top of it here that you would line up to put the thing in place and then it would snap in pretty much just like the original m6 there is not a whole lot of difference there looking at that gun from one to the other as far as the actual design of that gun in and of itself it's a duplicate exactly of an m6 Scout is your 3-inch number six game lows might be number fives I think they're sixes that's generally what I carry most of the time and sometimes I'll put like one four ten defender round on the back side just for things like camp security I like the way this is set up with a thumb pole basically there's some space there to give you a thumb pull to get that out but yet they're covered all the way around the ammunition I like that too I like the fact that these don't slide all the way down in so you've always got easy access to them I'll show you on the original m6 here in a minute you could actually shove those things all the way down in there and sometimes it made them a little bit of a pain to get out of there especially if you're wearing a pair of gloves or something like that I would say with this one you'd be able to get them out fairly easily even if you were wearing gloves okay real fast guys before I wrap this unboxing video up on this TPS m6 takedown rifle I want to kind of read through some bullet points that my man sent me from TPS arms just to make sure that I didn't miss anything in this video model is available currently our 22 long-rifle over 410 22 warmer over 410 17 HMR is coming late January 2019 it's 100% us-made again the original m6 had some models that were made in Czech Republic by cz manufacturing in at least in the 80s for sure possibly been into the 70s I'm not positive on that one it has a bigger better trigger pull and less creep before actually fires than the original m6 it also comes with interchangeable choke tubes which we've talked about comes standard with full choke installed the butt pad is wider to provide more comfort for shooting 410 3-inch slugs and buckshot it has an enhanced extractor for easy removal of stuck easier removal of stuck shells we talked a little bit about that enhanced extractor as far as how it covers up the internal mechanism I like that it has an ar-15 style capture takedown pin for rapid takedown a prevention of loss the original m6 cow I didn't cover this the pin would come completely out of the gun and a lot of guys were putting at Cotter key style pin in there or a retaining pin type in there so that it didn't get lost

this one actually will not come out it's more like an AR or it has a stop dead stop on it that it won't come completely out of the upper receiver and get lost other technical information overall length is 32 0.25 inches when assembled it folds down to eighteen point eight seven five inches weight is 5.1 pounds comes with the flippin peep sight 422 or V sight 422 which we heard for 10 which we talked about bus stock has drilled and tapped to accept a swivel mount just like the m6 and the rifle comes with standard choke tube and wrench plus gun lock in the box additional accessories available for this gun choke tubes improved modified and skeet scope mount storage inserts for for 10 and 22 as well as 17 HMR 13 rounds can be participation once you interchange things out on this gun you can find more information about this gun at TPS arms comm they've been a really good company to work with so far and by side to get this thing out shooting the gun comes standard with a full choke installed I ordered the modified choke so the choke that came in my bag was a modified Winchester wind choke basically that screws into this gun so when you buy a standard from the website it's going to come with a full choke the only problem with that is the manufacturer told me the shooting slugs out of this gun that full chokes a little bit tight so I ordered two modified and I'll just run it modified all the time because that's generally what I shoot and all my shotguns anyway guys I appreciate join me for this quick unboxing I'm really really excited about this TPS arms m6 takedown you're going to see a lot more of it we're going to do some videos probably maybe a little bit of target videos with it's shooting some targets just you can see how it patterns and how well it does it you know 20 30 yards away things like that but you're gonna see this in a lot of videos just incidentally with me carrying it because I'm going to wear this thing out the same way up in wearing out my original m6 which is really my main carry other than my H and our 12-gauge has always been my m6 I'm a big fan of single shotguns I just I really am and so I appreciate joven for this video I appreciate join me for this unboxing of the new m6 takedown rifle from TPS arms again you can check out their website to find out what they have available there are some aftermarket accessories for this rifle and there's going to be more of them made in the future that we've already talked about a couple things I appreciate your views I appreciate your support I thank you for everything you do for our school for family and for business all of our sponsors instructors affiliates and friends and I'll be back with another video as soon as I can guys thanks
