at dinner relaxing my clothes are getting nice and dry just sitting here reading the book I think I should see it look a good friend of mine gave me Bradon Robin Hood fantastic book by Henry Gilbert so just relaxing by the fire wind it down get tired just listen to the storm around me pretty much well I'm in my blanket now just relaxing until I fall asleep just gonna listen to the storm spoon my fire in front of me see you guys in the morning alright guys here's the deal it's the first time ever sucked out of Blizzard this is uh this is not the setup you want it is so smoky I've been breathing right for hours it's a let's see 234 so I just packed up I'm going to come back in the morning a couple hours and do a little lessons learned explain to you why at least in a blizzard I mean you can see a smoke billowing out of that place ridiculous at least for a blizzard why the shelter isn't the way to go you know and this is why we practice this stuff so I know this ahead of time so I don't have me my family you know my daughter my wife all that and a shelter like this for when it counts right so now I know now I know that this is not the shoulder to go with during a blizzard and I'll explain why later it has to do with snow accumulation restricting air flow so I'll see you guys in a bit all right so I didn't go back this morning to my campsite to go over some of the things with the tarp and what had gone wrong and all that I spent today recuperating the whole day from the smoke damage that I sustained

the smoke was so thick and for so many hours they got worse worse that I couldn't close my eyes without feeling searing pain I mean that's every time I close my eyes it's blinking or just having them closed right it was very difficult going to sleep and took me took me over an hour oh just trying to get to a place mentally where I could close my eyes for any exterior you know any extended period of time I mean over like five seconds so so bad you know I just drank a ton of water I tried to wash my eyes all that but it's you know really did help I decided to muscle through it and I think I like felt sick because I was just exhausted from the pain just I was done all right yeah I got some serious smoke damage you know when I was sleeping out there actually not sleeping boom Rogers hanging out there underneath my talk at first everything was beautiful you know I didn't know that things were going to get worse the longer I was in there I was listened to the storm we made some dinner

having a blast absolutely great time you know I'm a wool blanket on my little Pineville bed beautiful right morning in what when what can he ask phones reading a book all that stuff but um you know I literally can't breathe past 30% without feeling pain in my and you know I woke up today and all light was insanely painful and the Sun I literally couldn't leave my room without I'd have all the shades everything closed I couldn't leave the room because the rest of the house is too bright you know and any light source created a halo my vision is really messed up right now I can only see clear for about a foot or two

everything else is blurry I think double vision so I mean you know use wood smoke - Tan your hides I think I basically tan my eyes so if you're in a very smoky shelter you need to get out for sure which is what I did was that like 2:30 in the morning I knew I knew that I I could stay there anymore wasn't safe you know that shelter wasn't safe any what was perfectly safe before that so what changed I'll tell you what the snowfall changed now I've camped out and that's been snow and all that you know dustings and nothing eyelets you know weren't inch drop so whatever night two inches no big deal but when you get three feet need to change your game plan a little bit on your shelter that was a mistake I made had nothing to do with you know the size of fire any of any other variable really came down to my shelter wasn't designed to properly deal with three feet coming down I mean literally dropped while I was out there you know I had walked out that maybe 3:30 in the afternoon and I left at 2:00 I was out difficult 12 hours and three feet 12 3 feet fell into in those 12 hours

my first walked out there we don't have like an inch on the ground and when I left the snow was at my knees the whole time my way home I was a very brutal walk back to because a lot of the issue takes about 15 minutes you know one even as a couple of just sat on the ground took me an hour sounds walking in snow to my knees very intense walking away back and then rollin I you know brutal wind in the middle of a blizzard you know and driving snow in my face like it was like you know trying to shield yourself it was really intense but I assess the situation and I knew that I had two options basically and one was to drastically change my shelter and I have to be correct or on the trouble or to walk back so I walked back because I was a safer choice I learned a lot of lessons there and I plan on going back and shooting a little footage of you guys and to show you how shelter looks you know hopefully will be daylight and hopefully I'll be able to be outside in daylight not even know if that's even an option yet today's daylight was not an option not even close I couldn't leave my room for a couple hours before I could deal with daylight I had to shield myself from the windows walking by them I mean my eyes are bad really bad when you can only see two feet before he started seeing double vision everything's blurry it's pretty brutal you know but I can close my eyes right now and it's not like night like 90% of that pains gone so I'm getting better there's no question I'm getting way better but I'm definitely not ready I'm not under the Sun but anyways basically what happened was is that the forest floor moved up three feet that's a pretty big deal when you have a lean-to with the front pitch down which I usually like to do was rain and you know light snow things like that and lots of wind about 85% of my tarp is my back roof and over the last 15 percent so is just a little angle on the on the front of the tarp it just directs wind over you instead of on to you you know I mean still big gap underneath you know like 3-4 feet but that's the problem three or four feet when that forest floor goes up three feet the top of my tarp was touching the snow just think of my roof the snow reached that that's really intense and by doing that it literally turned it you know into this it turns it into a tomb basically it there was there was no air at all and and it would take drastic I mean I tried fixing it a couple times by moving a ridge line up and all this other stuff I mean you'd have to change things big time you have to change your bridge I had to unstick things which is under three feet of snow now the back of my lean-to I mean it was it was insane if I have to do it again and I hope I can I hope is another blizzard sometime soon and I can jump out there again if I get the exact same setup I made the bottom my lean start three feet up you know I would I would hang it Mylene would be up in the air like like like a flying wing because the forest floor will meet it later and then I'll be like as if my leans on the ground I mean it's crazy it's wicked crazy my the side of my wall the side of my lien filled up snow and the finala filled up so those like I had to crawl out of my lien and my back was touching the roof on the sides you know so that was the main thing that messed me up is that we got so much snow in the blizzard that it literally like changed the fourth floor and changed the workability in the design of my shelter so I'm like my shelter was was no longer really comfortable to be in you know it was dangerous to be at that point because I couldn't get rid of my fire because it was keeping me warm and was steaming off the moisture on me you know because I was really really wet from being in the snow because it was full blizzard the whole time while I was out there building my shelter getting firewood piece of my abs processing fire we're cutting down to standing oaks all that stuff I mean you know I was soaked right so wet and cold I was like not going to happen so wet and warm yeah okay for that's fine you know I'll work on that and I'll keep steaming all my pieces I mean I took my pants off I mean I steamed every article like I wasn't messing around you know but um the moisture just seems to find you you know heavy gusts a wind blows snow into the shelter and all that stuff so you have to keep your fire going keeps you warm it helps to keep you dry or dryer so getting rid of fire was not an option you know it was key because it was zero degrees outside fahrenheit so it was pretty chilly out well the smoke he created was dangerous so now I know designing a blizzard shelter you get to take that into effect get to change how to your shelter to match how the forest floor it's going to look later ok that's the big thing I've learned here you know lessons learned oh it's all about practicing now for one it's you know my life isn't on the line practicing now for when I don't need it you know so when it does count you know I don't make that mistake I don't have another shelter to fall back on right I was able to make it back to my house and it's a good thing because I would have had a hard time but a hard time last night because I could even close my eyes I mean I was I was really messed up so you know lessons learned is if you're making a shelter was going to be a ton of snowfall design your shelter higher than it should be because the snowfall is going to change with the forest floors so take that into account and you know that's just a big time less than I wanted here love another lesson I learned with this exercise was with smoke inhalation and smoke exposure it will damage your eyes and it will damage your lungs my throat and lungs are still messed up my eyes are like really messed up I can't even focus on the screen that I'm looking at on the camera so I think it's very important to be aware of when you have a problem right because I think it was was beautiful for me and then I started realizing I had a big problem you know so I try to fix it a couple times you know as the hours went on I knew I could stay there would be safe anymore alright so as you can see my tarp is literally buried in the accumulation alright so here's the back of my top I'm going to dig down and find when my top is actually set up just so we can see how deep the snow actually is alright so over here is my stake when my top are staked out and as you can see that walls snow above it serious accumulation okay so basically a summary is my top was about four feet off the ground

I do all-time great problem was three out of those four feet got filled up by snow so now my tarp is you know a one foot lean-to which is obviously way too low so the accumulation ate me up you know buried my shelter so that's a great lesson to learn because now I know that if I'm going to be in a situation where there's a lot of snow accumulation I'm going to just raise my shelter whatever it is could be a flying a could be a lien could be a lien with a it could be a lien with with a small hang in front tons of different shelter types right but whatever the case is it needs to be raised way up these be raised up to the expectation of the snowfall well let's play mentioned in a survival appreciate views comments new sport see you guys the next one take
