this is my flint and steel kit it's actually my long hunter kick it has snares in it too we'll talk about snares another day but flint and steel is another way to make fire now I keep that rope that you saw that role of rope in my bag my backpack and that's if I can't find any leaves or any cedar bark or birch bark or anything like that to make my tinder bundles I can't find any of those then I use this and all you have to do to use it is pull it apart you just untwist it and pull it apart you want to pull a piece of part with me all you have to do a lots of things ok you do lots of things and I'm gonna make a tinder bundle out of this rope that I keep in my backpack all the time just in case they need need to make fire ok all the time you never know you might you know you might be in trouble have to make a fire right away and not have time to go look around for cedar bark we'll go look around for dead leaves and it only takes a minute to make a tinder bundle this is quartzite that's a pretty one huh keep it don't lose it this is Flint what's really light really shot that's a char cloth yep that's what we're gonna use take a piece of that all you want to hold a piece yeah holy piece okay well they are I have other stones down there too okay so I'm gonna do is I'm gonna put that on the edge of my stone good and I'm gonna strike the steel really fast right on the edge okay you stand over here those smoke won't get you is because the winds going that way so the smokes gonna go that way first I had to try to ignite my char cloth ok so I'm hold it right to the edge

ok so now I know it's on fire when I blow on it and it's orange and it starts to smoke a little so now I take that and put it in the middle on my tinder bundle which I made out of my that rope that's in my backpack all the time so I'm put it right in the middle I'm gonna close it up in there oh ok I'm gonna blow on it a little bit stand over here oh good stand over here oh yeah yep want to help me blow very nice there it is there you go yeah you did a great job okay so I know you've seen this before well let's go over it again just a fellow rod right and make sparks I have to do is rub it and it throws a spark so you can use lots of different things you can use drievliet drievliet and stuff sweetheart and cedar bark but you have to really really really rub them and make them really fluffy so what I'm using is that rope it's in my bag I just made it like a tinder bundle and I pushed together really tight so it won't burn quite as fast okay yeah interesting huh because the more fluffy something is the faster it burns so I made it a little more compressed they call it so I'm gonna just put a spark on it and let's hope that it works you ready there it is yeah it's on fire so normally you would while Tom fire like this you would not think I have to hit it again you would take some dried dried leaves and things like that and put it on top so there it is all right all right so what I'm doing is I'm going to put I'm going to make a knot called two half hitches

I'm going to tie it around the stick alright so this technique to make a fire it's called the bow drill yep takes a lot of work because you have to make the bow drill set to begin with I'll teach you how to do that someday once you get your first real good knife will make a bow drill kit yeah okay right I think this is going to work I made those string much Lucy oh I forgot one piece over here it's called my bearing block okay so I am I bearing block now okay you ready hey let's see if we can do it let's go into a stopover on some dust at the bottom

with all the other pieces pour some water on it to site before sure this up on the fire good all right now let's make sure that it's all wet all out to going to touch with our hands mix all the wetness together I've have anything that's smoking make sure nothing smoking anymore gasps and out safe it's not going to start any fires anymore but now we know it's gonna be out right all right
