hey so much needed survival today we'll be going over a couple basic knots that I was requested to do and I've also seen a few mistakes done on some of these knots by some guys so we're going to go over that as well stay with me alright so this is a quick reference is my Boy Scout Handbook tenth edition when I was in the scouts and I'm going to just flip to chapter six the book is kind of a kind of heart in man doesn't have a cover on it anymore and stuff so let's put a paper cover on it when I flip through chapter six and go to page 148 okay I'm going to see it has some common not say slippery half hitch to half hitches clove hitch timber hitch and a lock set now I've seen some guys call this a locks head a clove hitch and then not even close so let's go over Locke's head real quick it's really really simple

so let's do that one first okay lock set so I just have a bite this is just some paracord all right there's a tag and there's a tag again small piece just a piece I used to practice knots so I just fold it in half and made a bite okay so now I'm going to go behind and over okay so I just pulled that bite over that's all I did let's pull the bite over now I'm going to take the two tags and push them through okay that's a larks head so you walk it together now you have both tag ins going out okay so that's a lock set it's very strong not because it doesn't create half hitches and things like that now I can also conversely go the opposite direction okay so instead of going up from behind I can go up from in front and now my tag didn't go the opposite direction so I'm going to pull them through see they're not from this side and now my tags are going the opposite direction from underneath so they come from the bottom or in this direction and they come from the top see that so you can customize if you want your tags to come from the bottom or from the top depending on what side you start the bite on so I have my tags right here get one more time coming from the bottom if I flip it over it's going to come in from the top now the tags on the opposite the opposite direction so again it's a it's a strong strong knot now one application would be to put this larks head into your grommet corner or a grommet on your tarp and now you have to tie outs that can go to two different steaks or two different trees whatever you want works really good for corners because then if this is my corner I can have one going this way one going this way keep in my corner exactly where it's supposed to be okay so it's a lock set this is not a clove hitch so now let's go over the clove hitch okay same page 148 10th edition Boy Scout manual clove hitch very simple this is my initial run I go over I cross over and I go underneath so let's go ahead and do that okay so close so I'm going to go over what I want to tie to okay I'm on the right side

now I'm going to cross okay we'll come back around now I'm going to do is go underneath my cross right here at my crossmember put my tag right underneath that just like that that's all it is that's a clove hitch tighten both ends and it rotates a little and then tightens up now it's a good strong knot okay now there is a way to make this better call it constrict or not okay so let's do this clove hitch one more time I'll show you the difference and how to modify into a constrictor okay so I'm going to go over my piece sorry for the shadow I'll try to tie it Luffy I'm going to cross okay go over again now I'm going to go underneath across very very simple knot looks just like this clean it up okay nice and tight now if I want to make a constrictor knot just loosen it up a little bit I'm going to take my tag end and put it underneath my first my first time going over so I'm going to go and cross this side now right here and go underneath that one from the opposite side

call it constrictor knot knot is nasty okay so let's tie that one one more time okay simple stuff we're going to go over I'm going to go across I'm going to go underneath okay and I'm also going to go underneath my starting loop over here from the opposite side take it down good to go okay so uses for the clove hitch or the constrictor knot modification a really good use for this knot it is a dead stop not a really good use for this is an anchor okay for lashings so if I'm going to do a diagonal lash or square lash this is how I want to start and end my lashings okay that's the best use that I know for a clove hitch works amazing for that okay so the bowline another request not super simple take your tag in bring it down make a loop hold it there you want to take your tag in and go inside the loop from underneath okay and you want to go around you're standing in around it underneath okay and back through your loop this time on the top the bowline is a loop that won't tighten up it won't slip on you kind like a chain link has a lot of awesome applications

you know whenever you want to grab something without having it tighten up on it sometimes I put bowline into a bowline so I'll have two loops going into each other the main use that I give this not the bowline is for fittingly my bow on one end of my bow I have two half hitches on the other end I have a bowline that's on a quickie cord when I want to make a permanent cord I then go with two bow lines okay so for my bows I use both lines on my permanent strings for my bows I use two bold lines one on each end and I just tie it so it's a perfect length for my bow will give me the right brace height in between my handle which would be right here and my string right here so I tie one bowline really small so it's permanently on my knocks the other bowline is a little bigger like this so it's large enough to be around my limb and when I bend my limb I slide this up until it slips on the knocks from the bottom so going up the bow okay so I use a bold line for my bows and it works amazing it doesn't slip so it's going to it's not going to stretch on you the knot won't stretch you won't have to give so if you experience any stretch in your in your bowstring then it's only coming from the string itself after that it's a very stable not high so what you need is a Bible appreciate your views your comma suit support and whenever possible how to use a book for a reference see you come in handy see in the next one take care
