Starting out from Loon’s Landing in Dry Pine Bay, head east on the North Channel of the French River. This is not part of the French River Provincial Park, but most of the river here is bordered by crown land so camping is allowed without a permit. There are plenty of sections that are actually private though, so consult a good navigational map (Jeff’s Maps) to make sure you are not trespassing.

Exercise extreme caution around rapids. Most of them are runnable for experienced whitewater paddlers, but water levels and conditions vary tremendously throughout the season and from one year to the next.

For this reason, I recommend circumnavigating 18 Mile Island in a clockwise direction, as the current in the Main Channel can occasionally make upriver travel difficult, particularly in 5-mile Rapids.

Spend your first night between Ash Bay and Wolseley Bay in the North Channel and your second night near Cross Island or Parisien Island in the Main Channel to allow enough time to reach your vehicle by mid afternoon on the last day.

Total Distance: 70 km

Start/Finish: Loon’s Landing on Dry Pine Bay or French River Adventures on Wolseley Bay

Parking Fees: $10/day parking at Loon’s Landing, $8/day parking + $7 launch fee at French River Adventures.

Camping Permit Fees: $10.20 (adult) $5.10 (youth)

back in July when Joe and I were on our canoe trip together on the Nipissing River in Algonquin Park talked about doing a hunting and fishing trip in the fall so when I heard Martin from scrambled o and dugouts I wanted to do a trip like that to thought French River be the perfect place to take them neither one of the guys had ever been to the French River and I had been there several times just this year and and at first canoe there 29 years ago when I was 17 did a seven-day trip through great all the way down the French River and back up again so I knew the river pretty well and thought yeah this is great fishing hunting solitude some whitewater lots of wildlife perfect trip so started looking at the maps and came up with a great spot to a base camp where we could do a little bit of exploring so stay tuned and check out what we did and how it turned out I think you'll be happy with what you see hey guys sean and games here from my self-reliance just out here on a canoe trip with the chill robinette dugout side and and scrambled oh just up on the French River three nights four days doing some exploring some fishing so stay tuned and hopefully you'll see us catching some fish and maybe even hunting some game and cooking that over the fire

I'm sure doing lots of interesting things

you

we Joe and Doug outside just swam through those Rapids last time I did that was when I was 17 29 years ago same spot me and three buddies from high school did a seven-day trip through here and all these waterfalls we heard all these wrappings we ran them all on them spent a happy another half the time swimming in them and fishing so quick memory very cool it's actually our second dinner we had a really late lunch I cooked up some venison steaks and the guy skills and other stuff for themselves but for tonight dogs having some chili rehydrated chili Joe is having strip loin steak for our steak and I brought some frog legs and I'm cooking up sign up any more guys are just out fishing right now it's almost sundown so it's just about 7 o'clock p.m. on a Wednesday evening and fishings not been very good so far the walleye and the bass should be in these Falls by now another plate oh yeah Oh perfect this is a beauty Lake I'd like to come here actually in the spring when the piker just in season I just play with the bass for the big st. go worm that's spinnerbait you head on no sinkhole worm oh-ho nice that's fun why what you're Jake no no I didn't like the worm that gets hooked in the middle yeah wacky putter down but wait you just have an auto hooked up okay she got Moose Tracks here can be mature enough to pluck nicely too so if Maxie parking it sounds just the some mere boiling water and dipping the burden to pluck it the water temperatures right through 20 seconds for something like this the trick is because they have oil in their feathers getting the water to get all the way in there is you have to kind of swish it around and swish it over yeah perfect

are you also additionally - that's wonderful I'd be Rocky hey you got the dark gotta spit out of some Bannock while game including duck should be slow roasted and then rare or medium rare ideally keep it tender so it doesn't dry out so here we have the Merganser being roasted quickly over the fire directly on the grill just to get its crust on the outside and keep it rare on the inside and the wood duck on the spit here's and slow roasted and smoked I love it cooked that way then in the frying pan we've got largemouth bass fry angle are you going somewhere I'm gonna go down where I saw that other back hydro swimming what's uh what's wrong is it that strong in the kid way that depends on your wallet I guess then it would be a hard time bear who's following them butter I have butter he wants up not now thanks though that's why we get it she's drinking you what you ready already

you said mate tomorrow here on day three of our fishing hunting trip on the French River in Ontario Canada now the four of us are out here on a little back Lake off the main river fishing mainly for largemouth bass and and pike not sure what the guys have caught haven't seen them since we got to the lake there at the far end I went for a walk up in the hills here to see if there was any wood ducks on the ponds and there wasn't then I just saw three fly over here but a very cool spot up there on those beaver pots it's a wolf rendezvous area that's where they were howling last night so I thought I'd check that out too so I walked around the pond and sure enough there's well-worn wolf trails all around the ponds and willfull wolf scat with with a moose and deer hair in it so it's very obviously a moose from era very obviously a wolf rendezvous area but I might come back either this fall or sometime next year and set up on one of those ridges and do a wolf howl and see if I can get them to come close enough for some photographs or video looking forward to doing that that's what they look like Joe oh thanks for me the best time to be out in the outdoors in September October and maybe the first week in November weather is fantastic we got weathers temperatures a little too warm right now for my liking trying to keep cool here but really get the best of many worlds and Ontario and really October I think it's October 7th today I've got got Thanksgiving weekend coming up it's Friday today of the long weekend we've been out here for for two nights then another night tonight and it's just a great opportunity to get out and enjoy great outdoors with nobody like we haven't seen anybody actually since we left the main lake you know listened to a wolf chorus last night right from the campsite went on for about half an hour and wolves howling and fishings been great we're catching a bunch of largemouth bass and this little lake behind us and some small pike got a nice big pike and a small walleye rate at camp and and shooting some ducks got a wood duck yesterday and Hanna Merganser reed from the campsite so we're going to go back to camp shortly have a quick cold lunch and then pack up and we're going to make camp a little bit closer to the truck paddle back maybe an hour and a half two hours up some Rapids and then find another campsite and closer to the lake and then within a couple hours of Lync we should be back at the back of the truck in the morning we're way back between campsites today we were lucky enough to come across a goose swimming in the water and I was able to get the gun out of the case out of the canoe pack and and get some shells out and shoot the goose as it was coming off the water gonna cut it up now and get it ready for dinner cut these up into little pieces and we're gonna stir fry them for dinner tonight

new dad nigga dad did you use my cookies all laugh
