DIY Rocket Stove, Outdoor Kitchen, Golden Hour Life Hacks

Description

In this video, I complete the diy rocket stove in the forest outdoor kitchen by burning out the wood form and doing a few trial fires to see how long it takes to boil one litre of water. In the second half of the video, I talk about the golden hour, one of the life hacks that I have used throughout my life to be more productive. My wife found three bourbon whisky barrels and a wine barrel to use as water storage tanks for the kitchen and the log cabin. I temporarily put them in place, but I have some great ideas to integrate them seamlessly into the structures, making them useful as well as attractive.

everybody's sean james here welcome back to the cow in this video I'm continuing to work on the outdoor kitchen the forest kitchen I'm finally getting this rocket stove going behind me here so that I can boil water much much quicker you'll see in the video how quickly I can boil water using that with the little liter of water in the kettle then I'm adding these whiskey barrels behind me other than that I'm not really talking much it's very quiet video but the question that keeps popping up in my mind is is that I've got my definition of a meaningful life and I'm enjoying what I'm doing here and this is the path I think I've been on for my entire life that's coming through here through this wilderness homestead right now but I'm curious what your idea of a meaningful life is what your ideal life is the life that you are working towards that you dream about so please comment below I'd really really like to hear from you so thanks for watching I hope you enjoy this one I'll see you at the end of the video

hey everybody hope you enjoyed that video no it was a short one but it's July July 4th today in fact and it is just too unbearably hot this week and last week to get much done so I'm not to make you much progress on the outdoor kitchen the forest kitchen but I'm ok with that because I feel like with the cabin being built the house being built and water systems in place I'm not feeling the real urgency to get this done like I was last last fall when winter is approaching I need to get that cab and relatively finished so I've got lots of time to get what I need to get done here before this winter sets in that's to finish this forest kitchen probably get the I need food storage systems in place that probably is gonna have to be next actually I was planning on jumping right into the workshop but I think I'll do some sort of cellar first for food storage and the smoker I want to add to the kitchen so that food preservation and food gathering and food storage becomes one of the primary things I do this fall and then I can move on to the workshop and the what else the bath house to make bathing and personal hygiene a little bit more comfortable not that it's not possible the way we've been doing it and I've been doing it but certainly a lot nicer if we actually had a bath who's finished so before I shut the camera off though I just wanted to talk quickly about mornings taking advantage of mornings the golden hour the golden hour defined by photographers and and I guess videographers is the first hour in the morning of light and the first or last hour at the end of the day and for me that's been not only the most special time to capture beautiful footage like this but also in my everyday life when I'm not in the backcountry on a lake or something getting up early allows me to be so much more productive gives me opportunity to start the day before most other people have so even throughout my working career getting up like five o'clock in the morning

spending time relaxed and catching up on social media having a tea first thing and when I wake up meditating exercising yoga stretching some cardio maybe something like that I like to do all of those things in the first hour of the day when I get up and then you know a good breakfast I cannot function I cannot start my day without a good healthy breakfast and by the time everybody else is up a lot of times I've got half a day's worth of work already completed so that served me extremely well during my working career getting up early in the past when I was younger when I was a tradesman meant getting up having time to eat and then getting out the door beating traffic getting to the jobsite and starting work before the heat of the day much like now this heat is going to be oppressive in the next couple of hours and I just can't get anything done around here so work in the morning get out enjoy the day in the heat of the day maybe do a little bit more work at night so in the past like I said as a tradesman get that work done and and be done work completely by 3:00 3:30 and then when I was working in sales and finance same thing I was able to get a jump start on everything and then everybody else get a lot of the productive work done with no interruptions in those first few hours of the morning and then take the rest of the day to slow down and do things at everybody else's pace so the reason I mention that is because I feel like that is probably likes definitely right up in the top three habits that I've used to create this life of for me that's this happy life this productive life and have success in my life so I feel that if I hadn't developed that habit early in life and I look back now that I'm 48 over those years and think how many hours I had of productivity if I lost those hours of productivity how much different my life would be right now so add those up I don't know two hours for the last say 28 years 30 years probably of my life two hours every single day like that's that amount of time you just can't get back it's hard to make that up so survives to encourage you younger people in particular who are just starting out if you want an advantage if you want to create good habits that are going to allow you to achieve your dreams earlier in life then I would say that's number one is to get to bed early enough that you can do this but get up early be alert eat a good breakfast and start your day on the right foot plan your day out execute and by the time everybody else catches up you're already well on your way to your success and you're fulfilling life and if you can't as well enjoy that last hour of the day to that Golden Hour is the Sun setting and reflect back on your day and just appreciate the things that you did that day and plan for the things you're going to do tomorrow and just enjoy your life and enjoy nature and enjoy your surroundings enjoy your family and continue to create a life of purpose and happiness that's it even since I started talking the Sun is coming out a little bit more and it's getting hot I need to strip down and go for a swim get calli out in the water and and maybe my wife now go for a little canoe ride or something and just get out there and enjoy this this beautiful day and look forward to the cooler days that are coming up after this heat wave breaks so thanks for watching guys really appreciate it take care of great week and I'll see you up at the cabin next time
