I build a wooden shelter with a cedar shingles roof over the clay oven this week at the off grid log cabin. Before building the wood shelter, I finish the earthen oven with another layer of mud cob and large it with a skim coat of clay and sand. Before the end of the week, I begin digging out the sand form so that the oven can start drying from the inside out. For the first time in many weeks, we get a deluge of rain that lasts a couple of days, slowing me to collect enough water to store in my rain barrels to last for several weeks. The rain recharged the pond and the stream as well.

Tune in next week to see me shingle the pavilion roof and to hear about the attempted break in at the cabin while we were inside. No, I'm not talking about wildlife.

this morning we can actually smell smoke I don't have this really steady rain that started four five o'clock this morning I think it was but the fires that are burning well west of us the rains haven't hit it yet according to the rep well weather radar but you can smell the smoke so obviously starting to the Windsor just in the right direction that is drifting over to here so you can smell it so we'll see what happens with this rain hopefully they get a lot of it that suppresses that fire but I think what we'll do is maybe tomorrow go for a drive and see if we can get a better feel for how far away the fire is where the smoke is drifting and whether we're getting it under control [Applause]
