My Canoe Camping Gear and Food for a 1-Night Canoe Camping Trip
Description
In this video, I go over what I bring for a 2 day, 1 night solo canoe trip to the backcountry of Algonquin Park. I eat cold food rather than cooked, and I go light-weight in order to make time on the lakes and portages.

just want to go over the gear that I took on this trip quickly here is that went really minimal because I just won over one night so just an overnight I came arrived at taganka Park at - what time is it 1:00 1:30 I think I got on the water at 1:30 and I got to this campsite at 6 o'clock so and then I'm tomorrow I have a long paddling day but it's just that bunch of poor Taj's and 35 kilometers or something like that back to the put in so I went really light it's just one night of camping gear but on this on this cellphone the iPhone is Jeff's map so that's how I typically navigate a lot easier I find quicker - 1 liter squeeze bottles soy filter that's Idol max so carbohydrate powder energy powder got four of these so 720 calories total keep in mind it's half a date today and then a full day tomorrow paddling and portaging so that goes into the water bottles rest of my Foods in here this is an earth sack you can buy that at Mountain Equipment co-op so mech and it's a Kevlar bag Kevlar material it's called air sac because it's bear proof so that's really really tough membrane if you go to Ursa or SATCOM and it goodness just watch the video they hang this in a zoo with some grizzly bears brown bears with food in it and let them try to open it up and they can't do it that just gets tied around a tree so rather than hang my food I end it with a bear hang or use a barrel I use this that's enough I've had eight days worth of food in here it's more than enough for that for about a pound and a half counted three quarters per day so that's one bags enough for eight days if I'm going on a longer trip than that I'll take two bags so inside simple double knot tied to a tree nothing you get into that I've never had a squirrel chipmunk racula nothing's gotten into this thing so open that up this baggie and also get that mount equipment coffee and get spare bags I've got a few of these I use them for other things as well really good seal and it's supposed to be completely scent free locks in the center so inside oils rations so more sight on my two pepperonis pepper rats tonight's dinner not cooking anything on this trip tonight's dinner
double bag that it's a it's a ratatouille this about 500 calories in there as well that's dinner for tonight I'm gonna put that aside more trail mix two of these there's a thousand calories got a Clif Bar builder's bar that's a 250 calories got for fruit for for whatever another thing of trail mix that's it it's all my so cool breakfast I'm not cooking in the morning I just want to get out and get out of here or I want to be on the lake getting photographs and video I'll be taking pictures and video of of all all of the lakes and rivers I'm going to be on so that's going to bring me up to 95 or 100 lakes at invit and rivers that I visited this summer so that's the purpose of this trip so I wanted just doing it fast just uh traveling around not sitting in camp too long I'm going to get up in the morning have a cold breakfast be on the water at sunup and hopefully get a nice sunrise so breakfast lunch snack that's it for tomorrow in the rest of my bag my so I've got my 82 litre at my 82 litre granted gear a new pack in here still others in the food show you the other bag got my ditch kit so long underwear top and bottom both a wolf a wolf buff and wool socks all full wool outfit head to toe that's the ditch kit in case I get wet if it was pouring rain and I'm starting to get hypothermic I would climb into this and then climb into my Maya sleeping system so that's gonna be my pillow as well for tonight there's my sleep system get some inside I've got my bivy my sleeping pad and my sleeping bag and pillow that all gets compacted in one small pack that one small bag like that so I'm just gonna flip that out you do that in a few minutes just flip it out and get ready for that small hygiene kit got some hand sanitizer dehydrated soap of strips that pretty cool that's toothpaste go back to set for a sore back at night when I'm sleeping some time a couple band-aids bear band-aids some chapstick and some cream that I made that's I get a healing cream and also sunscreen so I can put that on my face if it's hot and bright and sunny tomorrow so that goes back into my camp bag case not much left here I've got a small little first-aid kit that's always in my bag usually on my person goes into this bag so it's handy in case it flip got some snare wire like know that I always carry got my headlamp into the small bag so it's handy got my spot and I should activate that right now let my wife know that I'm okay roll of duct tape head net get the poles for my bivy another lighter lighters are everywhere stashed all over my gear then I have a rain jacket good for keeping in heat there's supposed to be a post up showers tonight looks like there may be done that's good so I won't need that but I've keep it out on the outside of my bag so I can reach it anytime during the day so win this bag you've seen this bag before got some bear spray in there got a 50 feet of paracord don't even have it open don't use it bug spray some toilet paper that's it that's my whole bag and it's soaking wet sitting in the bottom of the canoe so I'm gonna dry that off so for camera gear on this trip I didn't bring my sony action camera actually just brought my Canon ATD which is what I'm filming this video with that's on my camera tripod a fairly heavy system but I think it's worth it I've got this small bag which on a harness so it can go around my chest I can carry it like that so when I'm portaging it's either there or I put it back in the big bag or if I go for a hike I can leave that on my chest like that's what's protection so inside I've just got some cleaning kit a cleaning kit to spare batteries and spare a testy car ziploc bag extra large ziploc bag camera actually fits right in this bag and that goes in here keeps everything watertight and if I spill that'll be air in there so the lock to help this float as well that'll float so that's it that's my camera gear more lots of things to clean keep the lens clean what else do I have the have a pair of gloves neoprene gloves paddling gloves tomorrow by the end of the day hands might be getting a little bit sore probably not keep me from getting blisters on a long paddling
that goes back in the bag this trip about a spare lens actually brand-new lens it's a 10 to 20 so Sigma 10 to 20 wide-angle lens for this camera I'm going to try that I would see if I can improve some of my landscape shots with wider angle fire-starting kid always in my pocket and actually came in handy on this trip I don't often use it I use it as leave it for an emergency but today the wood was so wet we got so much rain yesterday I think we everything was soaking wet so in a double ziploc bag inside there I've got a some Vaseline soaked Vaseline impregnated cotton balls so that's what I took a little piece of that I put it on the birch bark use my light my fire fire steel got a spark and that's how I started the fire my fire is going now just really just to keep the bugs down that's all my gear for this trip so really lightweight probably 25 pounds total no cooking kit as I said I'll just cold food so that cut three pounds out of my gear got not much food yeah so that's it
