Search for Robbers Hideout - A Cave in the Mountains

Description

I heard from some old timers about a cave hideout that was used in the late 1800's early 1900's by outlaws escaping justice. I had found out the area where it was, next I needed to locate it. I got a cozy nights sleep the night before as I set up my Poncho as a hammock. I didn't have a tarp with me, so when it started to rain I just threw my Personal Survival Blanket over a ridge line, it kept me dry. For energy I made French Toast with freshly made Chokecherry Syrup. Cookin Irons were my choice to go with my Lodge cast iron skillet.

I've got some chokecherry syrup I'm gonna put on these and it's french toast my wife and I Shona we picked on Monday this is Saturday now but we picked a put we got five gallons a choke cherry juice we've been making it into syrup so I love chokecherry pancakes pet chokecherry pancake syrup it's great stuff so let's see here this thing on here there we go we're cooking great here

see I got my fire over there generating me more coals if I need i rake some up under here this is plenty hot for cooking so I'm not cooking actually on the flames here I'm cooking with coals and over there I got a pot of water for cleaning up and for more mormon mocha just in case I need it let it go just a tad longer goes pretty quick here I love cooking on the cast-iron got our iron cooking sticks cooking iron there that's a big set thirty-six inches that's the smaller set back there twenty-four inches but it works nice even with cast iron that's what I like about it I believe we're good here and it's been kind of gusty at times here so that's the purpose for the rock on top decided to be enough to last me the whole day so dinner time or something anyway here we are if it's time to bust out the French toast here of course I'm not gonna eat all that this will start with part of it this is some chokecherry jam or jam syrup we made the other day this stuff is just awesome choked cherry syrup on some french toast no it's so good now chokecherry has kind of a unique flavor to it some people call it a wild cherry but chokecherry just it's just a unique flavor there's not much that's as good as choke cherry syrup I'm telling you what well I'm gonna finish my breakfast here and we'll get on to some fun stuff today hey Perry peacock here with wilderness innovation I'm up in the West mountains above where we live and I've been told the story about some hideout that was used back in the 1800s by people trying to escape the law and it's supposed to be up this Canyon that I'm heading up here and I'm not sure exactly where it is some people have just told me it's back up here ways and you take him some side Canyon thing or something you know go on going up and find it so I don't know but hey it'll be a fun little try anyway you look back in there all these there's all kinds of little side canyons and cracks and stuff like over there and it's been pretty rainy here huffing on so I've got my I got my poncho actually fastened on to my my backpack which my backpack is just one of our multi-purpose gear bags and I got caught earlier I didn't get my poncho I didn't have I not got soaked there just like a cloudburst I heard a flash of her it's a flash the light pounding a thunder and all of a sudden it was just BAM came down it's like that well I'm gonna put my poncho fastened down on my backpack the way I can just quickly throw it into there whenever I'm ready you can't even see where a lot of these little canyons start I mean they if you didn't know it was there stumble on to it you'd never know I've been miles up and down a bunch of canyons that really took me nowhere I don't I don't know if I'm gonna find this robbers hideout or not I mean they did choose a good place there's little little tiny canyons all over creation up in here I've been back through a bunch of these

I haven't found this thing yet the hideout was described to me as being a cave kind of thing like a small cave but you know I just I don't know I mean it could be there could be a you know cave back up in some of these areas here or maybe you have to kind of climb up into it a little bit you know so it's not accessible from the bottom of the canyon but I don't know it's kind of crazy I mean it it could be a tough situation trying to find somebody up here so I I might not find it I don't know I'm I'll keep on looking and see what we can come up with well we'll just keep on going see if we can find here you know I don't know I've been told that it's a small cave I mean a person could get they could be definitely out of the out of the rain and the weather because got this overhang here and then how it kind of goes out as it goes on up above this and I don't know I have been up and down into so many canyons it's crazy I still haven't found it I just came out of this canyon over here I went that Canyon up there I went up in there about a mile and it's steep the rocky conglomerate Rock it's steep rocky canyon back up in there for quite aways and I never really saw anything back in there I kept seeing something but I thought hey that's it but you know I don't know

about likely because it's uh you have to it's kind of a difficult climb getting up here all the cobbles that have fallen off these rock walls it's kind of a tough deal but a person could get up here and hide out but as you can see it's a little small I thought when I saw it from across the canyon had climbed up on the wall up above the cliffs over there and saw this when I look bigger than it is but this is a probably likely the home or something to a mountain lion something like that I've seen some cat the cat tracks in some of the softer dirt up to here there's a lot of there's a lot of bones and stuff up in here they've been chewed on and stuff like that and left over but anyway I don't think this is the hideout I climbed up here for nothing oh well well now I don't know if you can see this right here see the this rock over overhang see there's another Canyon that I I I came by I came by kind of on the other side I didn't see this one but it's just just a narrow canyon it goes from right there just to right there and it's steep rock sides up there oh no I'm a maybe I'll walk up there just a little bit and see I don't I don't think there's anything right there at that overhang cuz that would not for any shelter that's - that's far too open to really be a shelter but since its kind of hanging out maybe you know there might be some up there so let's go take a gander at that all right let's see here well that's kind of thinking maybe I couldn't see the base of base of this and maybe that recessed back in there farther that's kind of hopeful but I don't know another dead end maybe yeah I'll just go up into this flat right here and see if I can see anything else up here I might climb up aways further just for kicks oh my word oh my word there we are right there there we are that's what I've been looking for I already tried once before up here with my wife Shawna we come up through here but we didn't come quite this far well let's go ahead and take a look at this thing

so we got see if this could be big enough really to be suitable it looks like it is from here oh man yeah this is easily easily big enough in here so anyway just to put the camera in here to see the widthwise view of it see I can go back here it's pretty good ways so I think um clear back to here and then back in there goes no that's that's more like about 15 feet back in that way where it's lower so that's not bad this would be a great shelter you know any time of the year really very very nice I'm pretty I'm pretty darn excited about it you know I don't I mean there's lots of caves around here but most of them are pretty small and stuff it's a pretty nice sized one and it's pretty accessible to it and actually you know unless you know it's here it's it's kind of hard to find okay to give you an idea of how how tall it is in here what out and find this stick and this this stick is twelve feet long so if I put it up here to the slightest part of the ceiling up here it's it's I'm 510 so it's so for 18 18 19 feet tall right here in the tallest part of the shelter of this cave
