Make a Bough Bed with a Hammock - Convert our Poncho

Description

In cool weather a hammock can become cold on the bottom, impairing your sleep, if you are stranded and don't have anything but one of our ponchos, you can make a hammock and line it with boughs, leaves or dry grass as an insulation under you. The hammock shape holds the materials in place. This is especially effective with our HD series of ponchos which can take lots of abuse because they are made of Cordura brand nylon. Featured Poncho which was set up as a hammock is a PSSL HD ATACS iX Check them out here http://wildernessinnovation.com/shelter/poncho-survival-shelter-hd/

we find one of the one of those common uses of our Poncho's is to set them up as a hammock you can turn your hammock into a more comfortable sleeping environment sleeping situation well you need to do is get some kind of insulation if it's cold out between you and the outside so let me show you a kind of a survival type method of what you can do in this hammock simply like your say you're in a surroundings like this you know we originally started with these ponchos we call them my personal survival shelter but being able to set up very simply and a lot of terrain be suspended above the ground and all that sort of thing and it's considered a poncho as a you know shelter a shelter your body getting a good night's sleep can be an important factor and so in that case we find that a hammock is actually could be part of a piece of survival gear because it's very quick and very easy to set up and get yourself a really nice night sleep without you know going to a lot of trouble now one thing that you have to consider in a hammock of course is because you're off the ground is in cooler weather you can't get some cooling from underneath what you need to do is get some kind of insulation if it's cold out between you and the outside got all these pine trees and such around there's plenty of resources to provide some extra insulation got all this little bit of some pine boughs that I've that I've snapped off I really don't need anything much except for where my upper body is going to lay I don't really need much of anything for my feet or anything like that and then I've got some stuff I've gathered that's just the tips like just the fresh growth from this year that i'ma lay on top so I have the very softest stuff I'll be laying directly on so this other stuff can lay on the bottom the tempting to put the butt-ends you know more to the outside this stuff here is a little coarser so it's to give me a little volume a little bulk up off the bottom of the of the hammock that's one of the nice things about the HD poncho you know putting this stuff in here is not going to hurt the thing in the lead we're just trying to give ourselves a little left a little spacing so that we're so that we're not you know right against the fabric there I've gathered some really really soft stuff this is like brand-new growth this year very soft very nice so this is just tipped and that's going to form the layer that I'm going to lay right against the nice thing about the about using the poncho here as a hammock and putting this stuff into into the hammock is that the hammock shape itself helps to keep all this contained well you know what else could you use well you know a person could of course use dried grass or leaves or juniper boughs or many other things and I've got I've got about a hand width right here underneath me from what I can feel right here so I've got I've got about that much insulation here underneath me now I do have a nice pine smell here too so I have a I have a scented mattress and because we're using the HD poncho of the hammock we got plenty of strength there there's nothing there's nothing to worry about hurting hurting this thing at all fact the way I've got it set up today right now I wouldn't I don't think I'd be afraid of using any of our pot shows as hammocks and lining them like this that maybe maybe ultra lights I don't know that might be a little I'd be a little more dicey but but I don't I don't see a problem everything I've got is soft enough today [Music]
