Make a Swinging Chair - Shelter it with small Tarp

Description

Take our Poncho (PSS) and make a cozy swinging chair, then cover it with a small tarp like our PSTS to make a nice shelter. Imagine sitting in a swinging chair in the rain and sheltered with a small tarp canopy. See these items at http://wildernessinnovation.com/survival-supplies/survival-items/personal-survival-shelter/

alright so this perry peacock with wilderness innovation I'm here in the swinging hammock chair that I made out of our PSS and a very cozy way to take a nap during the day or just the kind of sit around not the mark up personal survival shelter set up as a swinging hammock chair and then i'm going to show you the the new PS TS that's our small personal survival tarp and show you how we can configure that up as a as a nice little shelter so let's uh let's just go to town on this thing right now all right now you may have already seen this but just in case I'm going to go ahead and repeat here but how do this will be how to string up the the how to string up the poncho as a like for a hammock each each side of the poncho has a little sleeve a little tube in here that the parachute cord drops through and that's how we hook everything up so I'm going to do here is its hook uh just a pocketknife or whatever to the to a loop of parachute cord so we just take our 20 foot or a parachute cord fold it in half up tonight for the loop part of it and here we are out the other end and now you'll see we've got a how you see they've got a loop here and all we do is pass the past the free end of the parachute cord tumor this the same way we do the hammocks then you see right here we're just drawing kind of even that up draw it all down nice and tight like this and now we're good to go now instead of hang it up like a hammock I'm going to hang it up position for a for the swinging hammock chair my preference here is to what I usually find works the best is I like to hang this thing about about 6 feet or so five and half six feet up so I'm going to do is take this free end of this parachute cord draw it around the tree here and then I I just go over the top and back around so they just come up here and put a couple half hitches in there

so now there you go we've got a couple of half hitches here so now we're ready to to set up the other end alright so the way we make the scene is that we take a stick like this say yeah for four feet or so long this one happens to be a birch so nice thing about that is the bark is very smooth if you've got something that's you know got some sharp points or whatever you want to kind of slice those off with a knife or with the hatchet or something like that because we don't want to damage the poncho by having something really sharp in there so basically what we do is come down here to bottom and this this wood right here becomes kind of our kind of the seat here so what we do and you can configure this all kind of different ways but I usually like to go go up about to the first tab right here we have two ends left over from only tight off the hood so all we do is come down here to the to the tab that's on the very bottom of the poncho here and and what I like and basically you can I've done before like a taut line in there but I'm just going to do a half hitch so i'll do that site and then i'll do the other side here the same way we're just keeping in mind the tab here is right there about the top of the stick and it's not super critical but I want to be similar so I just come down with the other end of the cord and we just do us another couple half hitches here alright so now make sure that gets our seat down here now let's try to stretch out like that now we just got to tie off to a tree behind us here turn it into a chair okay so right here on this end of the stick aight aight a couple half hitches there and then I've taken that back around over here to a piece of the this birch clump here got around it and come back out and then we'll tie that down on the other end of here and I'll show you how we kind of adjust that I know here is where we this part here is where we adjust how much of a recliner we want here if we fight up this up like this it's more like an upright kind of lazy boy if I pull it up a little bit more it makes it more like a recliner and i think i'm going to just do kind of like that right there so i used to fuss around a lot with the knots and stuff on titan this off but i found that pretty much everywhere just a couple half hitches all you need alright so now I'm I'm tight around us at a tree I'm tied up back here so now I just stepped between the this step between the cords here and now this is how i like to do i just throw my feet up on the parachute cord started swinging lay down go to sleep take a nap whatever sit there do it out of you want now if i want it to be a little bit more reclined all i got to do is tighten up on this parachute cord going out to that tree and it pulls the seat board up higher and reclines me a little bit more so the other things i have done is i have put a board across here I've even taken a hoodie and zipped up over here and made me just kind of a place for my feet so there's a lot of different things there but this actually feels just fine like that to be honest with you so anyway that's how you make a swinging hammock chair out of the PSS and I'll tell you what it's very nice and comfortable and very easy to do takes five to ten minutes to set it up and you're good to go so you can sleep in this as a hammock at night you can rest in it or whatever in the daytime or you know if it's rainy you can use it for a poncho or you can set up as a tarp or a ground cloth a lot of uses for for the psf i'm going to show you how to configure a cover for this thing so in case you're in inclement weather and now let me show you something else that you can do with this say you need a little bit of a little bit more shade or say you got some inclement weather some misty rain or something like that going on let me show you how you can convert this really into a cozy little shelter alright so what I do here is this is uh this is using our new PST s our personal survival tarp small

and many people like my why did you make something smaller usually want some mean bigger but actually this this old tarp it works very nice it's 5 by 5 which means it's seven feet on the diagonal and that makes a very nice setup for such things as this as a swinging hammock chair let me show you how you how you can set that up pretty easy the the tart comes with the some shot court pieces it comes with your hammocks comes with three Hanks of a 20-foot Hanks of parachute cord so it's all ready to rock and roll here let me show you one other thing does this small the small tarp has all the same things like the larger ones it's got a tab in the middle here with the velcro on the underside a tab here halfway between Center in one corner tab with about crendor it what I want to do is put those tabs kind of over my head area so that I can if I want to have a little more room inside my shelter I can pull up on those so knowing that I'm going to use this quarter right here to tie off to the tree up here and there's a lot of different ways you can do it but it's worked pretty well here one of the nice things about the shock cords that's included says it's very quick to set up a lot of these things so as you can see here I tie this thing back off to that tree and I've been pretty good shape for shelter wise alright so I'm going to take one of the tanks of parachute cord that that comes with it here and I'm going to going to tie this thing off over here to the tree and now depending on what I need if I need more protection from the weather i thi this this tarp off lower if I need it more for shade or something I can tie it up higher and pull pull everything out so it's kind of depends on your conditions and what you need on how you orient it so if I tie it lower I can I can pull it down I can pull it down on me pretty good i'm going to go let it go right here about the same height as the as the court is tied off for the for the the bottom for the bottom of the hammock the swinging hammock chair there now i'm just going to put a taut line in here to make it slippery

I go like that okay so now now I can be able to tie this out or whatever I want to do with it for shelter ways alright so as you can see here I've got my swinging hammock chair here that is suitable for napping or just sitting or I've slept overnight in it that's a very comfortable even even like that you can use it just like a lazy boy and now we've got our PST s our small tarp configured over the top as a shelter so this can be shelter against the Sun the rain that sort of things know if it's later in the year and I've got it set up kind of moderately here like if it was it was raining you know fairly hard then I would I would move I would move this point up just a little bit this way and I would drop the sides down a little bit so it give me a little bit of coverage you know right here and if necessary but you know you just set it up based on your conditions but most of the time this is good enough to do the trick for you alright so sorry I am set up I've got the sliding hammock chair for swinging hammock chair set up laid out of our PSS and which you've probably seen that before and I've got the small tarp the PST s set up overhead to give me some protection from the elements a little bit

now all I do is sit down in here and I can just rock away comfortable cozy the breeze can come through perry peacock wilderness innovation with the small PST the small tarp set up as a shelter over top of our swinging hammock chair it's made out of our poncho or p a p SS so and it's pretty pretty nice and cozy excellent

you
