hey Perry peacock here with women's innovation with a little quick tip if yeah if you need to use chains you need to practice before you get out there so anyway this is Perry peacock with your little quick tip today on putting chains on I know there's quite a few different varieties but it's all essentially the same deal the important thing to remember is put them on before you need them a lot of people wait til they're really in trouble and then you try to put them on it's pretty difficult so you know if you can see the way up ahead is going to be rough and it's not getting any better you're probably just as well pull off where it's a little easier to work get them on and then going up there don't wait till you get all stuck and mired up and then think okay I'm going to go ahead and put them on because now you've got a real headache so it's a little bit of planning and preparation but if you have something like that with you well you can make your time in the outdoors safe and secure now these these chains that I've got on my truck here we look real close at them here you can see if you can see that or not but they have little spikes welded on on the links that kind of stick up here that really provide it quite a bit of bite on the in the snow and the I now you see right here there's the kind of action these chains have now you probably can't see it quite as good on the camera but the little spikes that stick off the chain are biting down into the ice they're underneath the snow so now I'm on a kind of a flat area right here but when I get going up and down some of the hills that will bite in really nice and I'll be able to keep on going let's show you how we how you put the set of chains on all right so if you're doing this and you practice timer to five minutes or so that's easiest to find about the halfway point just take them come over your tail you try to get them somewhat even front to back and try to get them as straight as you can and what you want to do is is you want to get them about even and what you're going to do is roll the truck forward just to about a foot or so and then we can that will pull this underneath the tire and we can hook them up now to make sure your spikes if you have them on there they're sticking out and so we're looking at looking pretty good there so let me go ahead and roll up here and we'll go from there all right now you can see I've rolled forward here and we've got our chain here just want to kind of adjust that we've got a got a link on the inside that's just a just a little hook link and I like to put that to the inside and you want to cut it and it just hooks into the end of to the end of the chain on the inside and then just take your outside one here and in fact they can now they've adjust a little bit I can actually tighten that up a little more yet that's the main thing let's get in there like that and then sky here just hooks there there and yeah smoke you a little like that okay so right here got this little this little kind of a cam type deal here it just goes through the end of your piece of chain there just pull that thing up they're trying to get them as tight as we can right now and you see is a little keeper gate that comes like that and I just hold that right there so now we're pretty even well it took us a couple of minutes to get to this point this right here is a chain tensioner and that's designed to kind of pull this to pull in on all sides on the tire or on the chains to pull in on all side on the chains so it holds some tension on them and keeps them from flipping around too much that sort of thing keep in mind you know you can only drive maybe 30 miles an hour or something with these things on and they're just for getting you through the real rough spot I'll tell you what they'll really do the trick so okay now we've got a tension chain tensioner which is just a heavy rubber just a heavy rubber strap really and I don't know there's probably probably as many ways there are people to put this on but I like to hook it one way come down and stretch it halfway across and hook it on a link and pull it over the other direction here hook it there so I'm going to do is I'm going to loosen this up a bit and just kind of a space ease a little different and if you're out there like it's pretty cold on your hands or whatever you can use your knee or whatever to give yourself a little extra leverage because if it's very cold on you're trying to do this it might seem it might be kind of tough to do

see ideally you want to kind of get this it's hard for me to exactly do this and show you on the camera probably there we go see now we're pretty even and this thing is pulling tension on that that makes that bite under the tire really good and now we're good to go and we can do some traveling safely and the snow and ice and all that sort of thing see the key to chains gone there they're not gotten to have much flopping around because we have those chain tensioners on there that keeps constant pressure on those on those chains see you've probably seen people before that the chains are flying all over the place and playing it and flipping and banging on stuff that's why it's nice to have a tune taste around there keeps a constant pressure on the chains keeps them tight it actually helps help some keep from wearing into your tires and stuff because they're not getting off twisted around and spent all over the place so Jay tear tumors are a nice idea really makes a lot of difference it only takes another minute to put them on and it's well worth the effort and it's well worth the 15 20 bucks and they cost to get a set of tensioners so anyway this is about chains only takes about five minutes to put them on or take them off so they're very easy to do and use the one you need to Perry peacock wilderness innovation you
