Parachute as a Blanket for a Hammock - An Accidental Good Idea

Description

I stumbled onto the idea of using a parachute as a blanket, since I had forgot to bring a blanket or underquilt with me. Actually I already knew of using light breathable nylon as a scarf, which gave me the idea to try it as a blanket. In this video I used our poncho as a hammock as usual. Also used were our PSTL Tarp and Polartech fleece as an underquilt for the hammock. Check out all our gear at http://wildernessinnovation.com

hey perry peacock here with all this innovation the end and just up here doing a little camp I'm going to show you a little bit of a couple things I changed up this time around and this will be a video just kind of some ideas that some of this is because of my own that stupidity or whatever but well I just yesterday it's busy shipping had all kinds of things I had to get done before he could come up camp in and so I forgot my haste of getting out of here as soon as I could I forgot my sleeping gear so I had to make do so i'm going to show you what I did so what I did is I pitched up my hammock last night I didn't have a blanket a sleeping bag and under quilt that kind of stuff you know the temperatures in the 40s and there was 20 to 30 mile an hour wind pretty steady through all the night and so I needed something but anyway so so what I did was I well show you close up so i did as i had my i had my fleece with me so I snapped my fleece on the outside like I snapped my fleece on the outside like like it under quilt and then because at first I didn't have my tarp up and I'm because I was so windy I had a spare poncho in my truck so I snapped it on the outside of the fleece because the fleece on the under quilt both have double sided snaps so it's all I went ahead and did that so I thought well that'll that'll cut down the wind and everything coming on to me but then that wind was just so so gusty and strong i wound up grabbing my tarp threw it up on the other side just to kind of make the wind go around me a little bit and not work pretty good and i'll show you how i set that up I just lifted this side over here up because i don't like laying in here with the tarp like right down on the sides of you that much and i didn't have any rain to keep out anything like that so I just lifted this side up and I just let these things just these quarters just hang down so I didn't really care i just kind of gave me a little more open space and I put my chair back in here I still needed something over me because you know like I say is about got about 45 46 or so through the night and without anything else that you know I can be a little too much especially then wind even though I was blocking the strength of the wind there's still there's still the stuff swirling around in here which wasn't as strong but it's still without something on you still kind of chilly so so first of all I wasn't worried about this edge so much I didn't have to have it tight or anything I just wanted it up so all i did is come over to this stub on this the pine tree right here and i just i literally literally just hung it like that right there and it stayed right there through the whole night no problem and then I just let my just let my corner flops hang down and that worked really well alright so I just put the tarp here on the just dropped about down the other side of the hammock stabbed it out of the way but so this what I did Jenny if any of you been following for very long you probably saw it through the winter and spring I used this yellow parachute we made a mini a mini sized parachute 12 feet diameter 12 feet diameter and we'll use this over the fire and different things well I know that if you have a bunch of nylon or fat like fabric like this breathable fabric it has there's a lot of air inside it a lot of air space so what I did is I just kind of folded this over and I got into my hammock here and then I and then I put this over top of me and then that that act I gave me just the right amount of insulation I was nice and warm kept the little breeze off of me that's kind of swirl around in here held some held my body heat down and I was cozy and I went to sleep I slept like I slept darn near eight hours straight through no problem so I did I did have a good good sleep and this this little deal right here did the trick so there's a lot of things you can do to get by you know even if you don't have the right things with you this one of the things I did all right so this is how he slipped and this little parachute cover his parachute deal right here really made all the difference I mean I would have was nice to have the flea sign underneath me as kind of an under quilt because that kept that cold air from underneath you know I kept me from feeling that at all but I did need something for this open space on top of me and this little this little parachute deal did the trick for me and ice things you can squeeze it up into a ball about this big amino and it weighs almost nothing at all but anyway so that's how I slept right here I used parachute as my as my cover over me like a blanket and it really you could really couple times when I first went to sleep I i tried kind of throwing it off of me a little and see how it felt and put it back on me and let me tell you in just a few seconds just a few seconds you could really feel the difference it really made a lot of difference having this on there so anyway so perry peacock it on my hair's a mess prepare perry peacock wilderness innovation just showing you a little something that I wound up doing to make myself comfortable because I forgot some of my gear and hopefully none of you guys forget any of yours ever but I do often times because I get busy and then when it gets time to go camp and I'm just like throwing stuff throwing stuff and going and you know sometimes I forget my food me whatever but but anyway this worked really nice and I really slept well like they had a hard time getting up it was so comfortable I might say something else well appendix tell this you notice I'm not very far off the ground and sometimes I pitch up like that and I don't really care I mean long as I'm a few inches off the ground while I'm in my hammock I don't really care if I'm you know because the comfort comes just being suspended so i don't really worry about it but uh I just I just didn't feel like messing with my setup anymore last night so I just had left it like this because it was good enough and I slept like a dream no problem at all anyway once again perry peacock wilderness innovation join my time out here camping and showing you a few things and hope you all have a good time when you go outdoors and try to remember to take everything you need with you so you don't have to do what I kit although I turned out good but anyway have a great day we'll see on the next go-around perry peacock wilderness innovation
