Make a Tipi with Our Poncho the PSSL

Description

Another in a series to show some of the many ways our Ponchos (PSS/PSSL as we call them Personal Survival Shelters) can be used. The Tipi is simple and quick to set up, in fact it's easy enough that it''s feasible to do to get out of the weather for lunch. Check them out on our website http://wildernessinnovation.com/survival-supplies/survival-items/personal-survival-shelter/

in this video was shot stormy weather with twenty to thirty mile an hour winds I left some of the video or some of the audio in for effect and because I was kind of the best thing and other parts I did I did narrate so just a little note for you here we go I posted a Facebook deal probably a week or two ago about using the poncho to set up just like a simple little one-person teepee and and some people requested little videos some more information on the steps to setting that up so but hey it's raining it's about 40 degrees now this is what I consider possibly some of the most dangerous weather really a lot more find a lot of people getting in trouble this kind of weather versus colder weather than this because older people are usually better prepared this kind of weather you know you typically get rain and cold and wind which you come combined those three together they can be very dangerous so you know for wearing a poncho we keep the rain and the wind off of us and if you get to a point where you need to stop for a little bit or something and take a rest there's a lot of different ways you can make a shelter out of the poncho one of the real simple ways though is to make a little teepee that you can sit in or I find I can even lay on my side kind of fetal position which I sleep on my side most time anyway so it's cool for me but it works really well I can sleep in here without any problem as well so let me just show you how we construct this thing and hopefully the wind won't be too bad that I can still use the sound without voiceover so to set this thing up as you can see I've got four pulls here I actually set these up in a rectangular fashion rather than round so it gives me some sleeping area and the sticks are Forks several of them and so all I do is wedge the forks together and I'm good to go now the poncho itself has 12 nylon tabs sewn around the edges and spaced around there so I can use those tabs driving tent stakes through them to help secure the bottom of the poncho to the ground and that helps to hold the whole structure together as you can see the poncho I've got here has a hoodie pocket on it and inside of there I have at this time I carried for titanium tent stakes I do have as you can see that little gray fleece poncho pocket liner hoodie pocket liner in there as well these for titanium tent stakes have shockcord on the end and they work very well they're small they're easy to pack they'll fit right in your carry bag if you want to have that option they work very very nicely for this set now just unsnap the puncher and we're going to race around here so they want to try to do this get it down to ground level as much as possible I'm not all the way down the ground I can put some brush or whatever the kind of take care of that just want to do the best I can get in there these are nice enough with a shot let's put it and put the stake through there like that now I can pull on them pretty good jam it down into their hood what we do here close that I draw that up nice and tight like that like that close that off I could fold that under if I want to like that I really need to get it put down here though now there it is the the teepee is set up using the poncho and it's all secured in the front there by by the ends where they come together and they're snaps already built into the poncho or just use the the snaps that come with the poncho and we snap those together and and come right down through there right at the very top I did put an easy clip one of our optional features on a website and I put it right it's kind of cut off on the slide or this picture but put a right at the very top to close it in as tight as possible the top of the poles and down here at the bottom what we're doing is as we tie off to one of the two tabs that are there we want to use the leave the other one free so that when we get in out of the out of the shelter when we unsnap but the one flap pulls away free to allow us easy access in and out and and then it's very simple just to come back and use the snaps there to snap everything back together to close everything in on the front here by pulling out with that Bank line it gives us one to two extra feet of space in the front versus what we'd have if it was flat there and it gives us a space to put something like a stove or gear or something like that kind of in that front little kind of a vestibule area what I'm using here is the personal concealment blanket one of our new products and I'll roll that out inside of there the nice thing about this is it's it's warm whether it's damp or dry it compresses down really nice and it's very cozy down into the I use it comfortably down into the 20s now suggestion here if depending on the conditions is add some some sticks and some boughs or that sort of thing some grass whatever something to kind of elevate you a little bit off the ground if the ground is kind of mucky and really wet and then put your blanket or bag or whatever you got on top of that that should make you a nice cozy arrangement

back inside here nice and cozy having the wind drive trying to drive through me I got my first blanket to sit on and later on I can sleep on it tonight or whatever no problem there I've got my little fire box nano stove here with the spirit burner inside there and I got me somebody in here kind of out of the weather so the nice thing about this I can use my poncho as a teepee type shelter that I could just put up with sticks and I find laying around and only takes a few minutes put it up kind of give me so good now right now I've got this panel here unsnapped and it's pulled kind of tucked back here behind the post so it's kind of out of the way so that I can so I can't do this inhale here so looks like my bike my water here well yeah it's plenty ready it's boiling a little cup here no Boy Scout drink from what Isaac growing up the kid so as you can see I feels good you know I've been here I'm hot drink I couldn't get some a little bit of lunch and I'm out of the weather and I didn't even bring I didn't have to bring an extra tarp or anything like that I was wearing this and then I put it on and I took it off of me to TP out of it so here's a poncho that you can wear in your everyday life out there you can stop and divvy somewhere make yourself a place to take a nap or to sleep you can sit out of the weather and cook a meal or get a nice hot drink to warm yourself back up

you can relax a little bit to get out of the wind out of the rain out of the weather and it's all made out of the same thing that you wear as a as a poncho around so it's a very nice additional use for this for this product in here setup as we've shown you today in a kind of a rectangular fashion to allow for a nice little sleeping area if you want to actually make it round you can add a fifth or sixth Pole to it make it more circular works very nice as we've shown you here and up inside it's actually if you look in there it's reasonably roomy for just use a poncho tepee this is very peacock enjoy your time in the outdoors

you
